I have a weird story about Crustle. It involved the Ultra Wormholes from USUM. I was staying at a hotel at the time and found a Shiny Crustle. Someone wanted me for something so I accidentally dropped my 3DS on the ground because I wasn't paying attention. So now whenever I think of Crustle, I think of the painful process of replacing the LCDs of a Nintendo 3DS screen. Thanks Crustle. It wasn't your fault but I can't dissociate you from this.
I lost a shiny Ursaring in Y because I was on a field trip and my bus hit a bump in the road made the internal battery pop out of place. :( But that was okay because I found a shiny Azumarill a month later. Then I spilled soda on my 3DS and proceeded to name him MountainDew
I love Crustle a ton, I wish I used it more on my in game playthroughs though, it's not that it's bad but between Gigalith and the plethora of other great Bug types gen 5 had, it was pretty hard to justify it for most teams (but if you did use it, it was very good still)
I'm using it can currently in Pokemon Black 2, and a single shell Smash destroyed the entire elite 4 for me, I played black 2 only to have crustle on my team!
Yeah crustle being top tier is only a recent thing as it kept getting power crept by new or buffed defenders until they finally buffed it through cooldowns, it’s ability and unite move
Normally i hate it but my defender of choice (Slowbro) can put a complete stop to it with Scald, Amnesia and a potion. Never mind if teammates are around.@@gloopiu
Bug/Rock is lowkey a pretty solid typing for Black & White 1 on account of there not being any type specialists for Water, Steel, and Rock-Types (Cress in Gym #1 doesn’t count).
When I first caught mine, I didn't think much after I evolved it. However! This thing can crack open a Rhyperior like a cold one and I loved it ever since!

@@blah.nevits More like that it takes time to compile a competitive documentary on such notable and influential pokemon, it took a while to get the documentaries for Ferrothorn and Heatran, which ended up being over an hour long each. Rotom has been an influential force in several tiers over the years (Wash form especially in OU), and if it's not put into one long documentary, FSG could break Rotom up into smaller videos based on each form, like how he did with Kyurem.

Gen 5 really did a lot for bug types, its just unfortunate that as cool as Crustle is he gets over shadowed by the other cool bugs like Volcarona, Scolipede and Galvantula

They’re still arthropods. If anything I’m surprised most other crustaceans like Clawitzer aren’t part Bug. I’m just confused as to why Accelgor is part Bug. It’s a snail!
They aren't particularly specific about bug types, Golisopod is an arthropod, like mentioned above, but also some molluscs and molds, like Accelgor above, or Shuckle. Armaldo is based on a Cambrian pre-arthropod relative, the Anomalocaris, and it's a bug. Seems any segmented or slimy guy can become a bug to Gamefreak
If I was in the Pokemon universe, I'd be the 5th gym leader of the region and Crustle would be my lead to set up stealth rock to fend off pokemon super effective against my Bug type team.

I find it incredible that in the introduction it didn't even mention that in the anime Cilan's Dwebble envolved intro Crustle and also he doesn't mention the fact that in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 Crustle blocked the passage on some routes such as the desert route and the exit from the cave to reach the Team Plasma Frigate I always remember Crustle thanks to all of these things I have mention
I've sometimes wondered as to whether Crustal should have been a Bug/Ground type, given that it's carrying layers of earth, rather than normal rocks. No idea as to whether that would be good for it though.
STAB EQ and SR neutrality alone sound like good reasons why it'd be better, let alone becoming immune to a type. Becoming weak to Ice sucks but like. You still learn all those Rock moves, and if you run a Shell Smash set you're not expecting to be tanky anymore anyway
Funny thing for me about me and crustle: It's my favorite pokemon because of unite! I was at a huge MOBA craze back when unite initially released, and i heard about this new MOBA coming to mobile soon based on pokemon. Back than, i knew basically nothing. Pokemon unite is my first pokemon game. Heck, my first nintendo game! And crustle was my favorite there by far. Bot only was it super fun to play due to its cheesy playstyle back than, but also because i like crabs. I don't play unite anymore due to fatigue, but both unite and crustle have a special place in my heart not only introducing me to the world of pokemon, but also the world of nintendo in general
I feel like Crustle is one of the most underrated Pokemon in the game and doesn't really deserve untiered status, but at the same time I like that it's untiered because it means I can slap it on any tier team without restriction (even OU). I first started using it in gen 7 when I needed something on my mono bug team to shut down both forms of Mega Charizard, and it was perfect for the role. Since then I've found it's very effective late game since priority and scarf mons usually get burned out by the specific team I had around Crustle, and no one ever expects to get stomped by it. Weak Armor is also a great way to buff its speed even more. I'm okay with Crustle being generally overlooked, though, because it keeps its surprise factor intact.
Why no fair shakes for Rock Wrecker? Outside Rhyperior, this is the only actual user of it. You’d think Crustle wouldn’t at least try to flat out take at least one target down with it for a suicide lead. And Smeargle can’t use it near as well stat wise even with Giga Impact.
I have a funny memory with Crustle. Gen5 RU match. He led with a Stone Edge Primeape. I led with Crustle. He missed 6 stone edges in a row as I laid out all my hazards

For all the flack Bug gets as a defensive type, I feel like it’s the only one that has legitimately _synergy_ with Rock while most other types get brought down by being paired with Rock.
At least Crustle was great in Gen 7 ZU as well as having a niche in Crown Tundra ZU, so I see that as an absolute win. That is if Smogon chooses to acknowledge the existence of ZU and doesn’t ignore it.
I developed a weird respect for this fella in it's alternate candy forme in Pokemon Insurgence. Rock/Fairy is a solid combination, and it has better Sp.Def. It even 1v1d the endboss of that game (no spoilers!). Very cool defensive pivot for a casual playthrough.
The type combination is actually Fairy/Normal. I used one in my play-through as well and it was quite helpful. I generally ran a shell smash build and if I really needed something gone I could count on its stab, Scrappy, +2 Giga Impact to do the trick!
It’s worth mentioning that Dwebble was an absolute terror in LC! In Gen VI I ran what was probably my best team ever, and Dwebble was an insane sweeper, especially with the ability to reset Sturdy using Berry Juice!!

In the Ultra Wormholes in USUM, I got two Shiny Crustle back to back. If it helps, I think yours got to a nice home.

Crustle is another pokemon that I adore and use in playthroughs whenever I get a chance, but only use in casual, non-competitive multiplayer.

Crustle may have had the cracks in its competitive career shown early, but it has a cool design, and any Pokémon with Shell Smash is really cool.

I would like to point out this is probably the best 1v1 Pokémon ever. Probably the only Pokémon with Sturdy + shell smash
