My Journey In Horsemanship - A Year In Review

  • Dewayne is giving me a hand with this video, per my request! I wanted to share what it has been like for me in this new chapter of my life, in hopes that it will help someone else in whatever chapter you are in…we are always learning and growing and should always be sharing as well!
My discomfort in front of the camera often holds me back from sharing what I have learned by experience and from stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging myself to do what may not come naturally but helps me grow and become all I desire to be, especially in this journey of horsemanship.
I hope y’all enjoy this his talk with me and Dewayne and that each one you have a wonderful start to the new year! 🤩💟

The way Momma looks at Dewayne and really listens warms my heart so much. Beauty shines through with age more and more and she is a fine example of that. In both her and Dewayne’s eyes I see the beauty of simplicity

I find it very wonderful that Dwayne, whom we greatly respect, is supporting and encouraging you, physically and emotionally, as you learn to be comfortable in front of the camera.
Think of me, a viewer, as a student, and teach me.

You have no idea how much I appreciate your comment… I’ve had a couple of rude people on here, saying that Dewayne was trying to take over when all he was doing was supporting me and encouraging me. I am extremely uncomfortable in front of the camera and he has been so supportive and I would not be able to do this without his help. So thank you…very much.💝

As I commented on your husband’s channel awhile back, i have zero knowledge about horses, except that I think they’re beautiful. But even though both your channels are a lot about horses and wrangling, I love the life knowledge that both of you share because it can be applied to all areas of life. Both of you are such a breath of fresh air and a bright light in a declining world and a blessing to listen to. My thanks to both of you!!! I look forward to the videos from both your channels.

Thank you, because I was always wondering how you managed the children and horses. It has been really interesting to learn that you focused on the children and now it is your turn to learn more about the horses. I watched the video this morning how Dewayne settled the horse and it was just fascinating. I failed growing up at even making a friend with a horse and my very best friend is still riding to this day but how could I ever learn there wasn't the time as a little kid staying there for weekends? I watched with envy 64 years ago. She is my very best friend today even though I now live in Australia. I will delight in telling her what I am learning!!

Thank you for this one! I have been really down on myself regarding my mare and skill level as a rider, this helped me adjust my perspective and remember that our most recent ride went so much better than our first: she realized I was off balance and got good and broncy, threw me down in the dirt hard. Bought her anyway that day, and I am glad I did.

I know this is off topic, but I can't help but to ask, I feel so lost. I'm 27 year old man, graduated college, trusting in the good Lord, looking for my future wife. I just don't know where to start, how do I even find and attract a beautiful woman as good and pure as Deanna? I'm self employed in construction working alone and don't get out much because I don't drink, just go to small church every Sunday and grocery store and gym. That's it and have no idea what God's will is, I just have this burning desire for marriage and to start a family.

God is smart. He can bring you together with your future wife even if you lived on a deserted island.
My son and daughter in law, both from the East Coast, met each other in Colorado when they were 34.
      Married at 36.
      They have an amazing marriage.
Be patient. You don’t want to be involved with the wrong person when the right person comes along.
      Best regards!

I waited till I was 36 and found who I thought was the right person. One year later it all fell apart, in spite of how much effort and sacrifice I believed I was making. You have to be comfortable and okay with yourself before the right person comes along.

Here’s a few thoughts. Toss them if you don’t find them helpful.
I have found many times that when I can quit being solely focused on what I want the Lord brings along exactly what I need.
I grew up in a small agricultural town near the west coast of FL in a very small church with no young men my age. I figured I’d probably have my best chance of finding a spouse once I was an adult and probably would move to a larger church that has a Bible Institute that I was seriously considering attending. Long story short, the Lord brought my husband to our church where we became friends through our mutual interest in music. Once I was an adult we started dating and now have a wonderful marriage of nearly seven years. My husband was someone I would never have considered on my own but he is just right for me. So don’t give up and don’t overlook someone.
Perhaps you could pray about attending a Bible School and/or going to some larger church meetings once or twice a year.
Pensacola Bible Institute might be a place to consider and there’s two great meetings a year there or a great meeting in November at Bible Believers Baptist church in Jacksonville Fl. There are folks at both meetings from all over the country. Just a couple thoughts. God can do exceedingly abundantly above what you can ask or think. Trust Him!

Happy New Year to you also. The weather looks wonderful where you are. As an old videographer (among other things) I can say you are doing a wonderful job. People can look at your video and think they can do better or as well, but it isn’t near as easy as they think. I once upon a time produced, shot, edited an outdoor hunting show. There are so many things you have to do to get the shots, the sound, the lighting issues, the on camera people. But you do it and learn from every encounter.
That said, you are a joy to watch and listen to. Keep up the good work.

You are a wonderful lady ! Thank you very much for sharing lifes lessons in such simple and grounded manner !
I got a question regarding riding.
2 yrs ago I went to a riding workshop with a guy from Texas.
He told me that "his people" could teach me the riding basics within 4 weeks, if I cooperate, of course. Back then I was taking lessons here in Germany with one lady, which turned out to be a bad bad investment...it was a discouraging, frustrating experience for me and left me thinking - I got no talent, I will never learn this, I better go play tennis.
Then this cowboy showed up and he was the complete opposite of the lady.
He yelled at me: STOP HIDING ! BE SOMEBODY FOR ONCE ! TREAT THE HORSE LIKE YOUR PARTNER ! BE SOMEBODY !
...and there - I galloped for the first time. We galloped a smooth circle and made a decent stop.
I could not believe that this was possible.
Soon after I quit the lessons with the lady and found me a care-horse, with whom I am doing ground work. Watching horsemanship videos and learning by doing, taking baby steps.
My question. Where do I find information about your school. (Where are you located. How long can one stay. How much does it cost.) Can a 40 year old learn to ride (basics, nothing fancy)?
    Thank you.

I really appreciate that you both acknowledge and appreciate your strengths together and separate as man and woman. I feel a lot of folks today don’t love and respect each other and the roles they play in the relationship. A sincere question. Could you do a video on situations where the man isn’t a strong family leader? And how to keep your grit and grace. And definitely home school tips. Happy New Years to you both. I appreciate your words of wisdom. It reminds of my upbringing.

I heard a woman, talk about what to do when dealing with a fool (she was referring to Nabal , Abigail’s foolish husband, who disrespected King David. She said one has to learn to detach from a fool…to feed the fool with a long handle spoon.
Of course, this is a spiritual solution when being married to a fool doesn’t call for divorce.
If there is abuse, grab your coat and head out.

Great video. Thank you "Momma" and Dewayne. I bless you both to keep up the great work you've all been doing into 2023. Please keep on sharing your wisdom.
I have hardly the amount of horse experience you both have but I do have more than the average non-horse-person person. The 5 words that make me cringe and wince when I hear them in any relationship to horses are "I Know How To Ride." It's usually some "dude" or "dudette" who at their worst presentation comes to ride in shorts and sandals and wants to go cantering and galloping across the countryside.
I've had the pleasure of guiding quite a few trails around camp properties and woods in my life or being "sweep," sometimes I've had to pony other riders, oftentimes women who were scared on their horses or just not sure how to ride and rein. It's a lot of fun allaying the fears of timid riders and encouraging them to gain their confidence on a horse, educating them just enough.
Once, I took about a half-dozen adults out on a Jewish singles weekend to a stable I'd never been to. Let's just say that it was an "experience." 2 female riders had loose cinches, 1 nearly went sideways to the left and I was able to ride my horse up to her and push her upright. The wrangler got them off their horses and tightened their cinches on these massive drafts or draft-crosses. Another rider on this same ride was acting like an idiot and could not get his horse to follow the string and he fell behind a good 1/4 mile. The wrangler took one look at me and said, "You look like you know what you're doing, go get after him." So I got up out of the saddle and had a good gallop on this horse down a nice dirt road to ride up to this fellow who was taking his horse into the woods off the trail. He hurried back with me at a trot back to the ride.
These days, for the past 7 years and nearly 700 hours, I have been volunteering with a therapeutic horseback riding program. The clients are usually children and adults who have some sort of mental disorder like being on the Autism spectrum or they have ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, or something else. Sometimes the clients might have a musculoskeletal and/or neurological issue. I absolutely love working with these clients even more so than I am passionate about my own horseback riding. When I see these clients' brains working, trying to figure things out, gaining confidence, gaining horsemanship skills, that's when I'm at my greatest "high." I like to "tease" and joke with my riders. I like to have fun with them. I usually know just how much I can push them to figure things out on their own. I'll show them how something is done and then ask them to do it. I'll break it down as much as necessary. And I'll help only as much as needed, especially with the little kids who don't have the physical strength and dexterity to do something like put on or take off an English bridle with all the little buckles. When I see a little kid with grit and guts, I just want to see this kid succeed and go as far as he or she can.
Like Momma said, there's no greater satisfaction I get then getting people on a horse, helping them gain confidence, and teaching them what little I know to make their riding experience that much safer, more educational, and ultimately more fun. I'm grateful to G-d that the therapy instructors have confidence in me to accept my advice and to allow me the ability to work one-on-one with the a rider and to find ways for them to progressively succeed.

We call them Velcro dogs in Australia, they find one person in a Family and stick to them. I have a Blue x Red, and she is very protective and will stand between me and a stranger and glare at them. They were bred using the wild Australian dingo, the cattle dogs are very agile. You probably have seen skid boot, on you tube?. Unfortunately he is passed away though the cowboy that trained this dog sure is a Dog whisperer and tricks performed and phenomenal. Subscribed
