  • During my years of homeschooling my seven children, I wanted to keep it fun and joyful while still giving them the education that they needed and deserved. Asking myself “why am I homeschooling them?” helped me remember the purpose of having my children home when I lost my focus. It’s about keeping your joy! There’s no need to make it boring and rigid! You only get them for a few short years…enjoy and treasure your time with them!
    So here are just a few of the many tips that I learned and enjoyed with my own children…more to come in future videos!!
    Thank you for joining me and being a part of my Gritty and Graceful journey!

    I can really relate to this. I homeschooled my three now adult children and now they’re all homeschooling my grandchildren. Life is too short and precious not to have our children at home with us during their years growing up. The world out there gets more perverted every day and we must protect them.

    This is our 14th year homeschooling and we are very eclectic in our learning. We've done it all; books, online, unschooling, classes, mentoring, whatever felt great at the moment, and it's been perfect. We have well rounded kids who can speak to adults and children equally because they've been around all kinds of people not just their peers.
    Thank you for an informative video with wonderful encouragement for families taking on home schooling.

    Hey mamma from one mamma to another mamma. My husband and I watch yours and your husbands channels avidly with coffee in the morning. Now we ain't wranglers we are just a humble new starting homesteads in transylvania Romania we both have our own duties my husband chops log, tends to the veg patch, chickens and goes off to his job, I stay home and my job as a wife choose to keep the home going.
    Now I have to say I wish in my earlier days in my early 20s when I was suffering from mental health issues quite severe at times have had the advice that Dwight and yourself gives out on life, you both give advise beautifully, simply, and straight to the point (easy to understand) more than my phychologist could ever give, now I'm 53. Life hasn't given me an easy ride however said.. I believe that without the battles I've had to endure as a child ( which no child should have to go through ever) and early adulthood I would not be the woman I am today, experience has made me the woman I am now I'm a solid woman who is empathic, compassionate, loving kind and understanding to others life experiences, im not saying I'm perfect. I'm far from it, but I wake up everyday, I'm grateful I'm alive and my children lead a happy health life I also think how can I better myself for the day ahead and what can I do to help others when in need.
    I want to wish you the best of luck with your channel. God bless you and your family ❤️🙏❤️

    I was an introverted kid who did the public school system, and had a hard time with it. What worked best for me was when my parents found a tutor for me who would teach me math one-on-one. That was easier and kinda fun. If you are homeschooling, good for you, keep it up!

    One subject I would like you all to do is on a more recent journey or stage in life and that is when the child of yours leaves the house to go off to college or work. This is super tough stage and leaves many moms and dads with a sad empty space really. You as parents are happy to see them go off to start their life but what a shock if you spent a lot of your time with your kids over the years and then the move on out is a tough one to take at times.

    Thank you for this, love it! God is working so much out in me through the challenge of homeschooling. My type A, over achiever, check the box traits served me well in the working world. But it was ruining hoemschool for my poor daughter who hated Kindergarten! I sucked all the fun out of it. This year I am learning to let go of a lot of that and embrace these things you are talking about. It has been such a blessing to not have to let go of my kids at 5 and ship them out all day. The quality time is so great, it's changed the way I parent. Our time is so much more intentional now. I am so grateful for the opportunity/challenge that homeschooling is. Motherhood has been the best adventure of all! Thanks for the video and advice! Love you all!

    You're right!! I've been a homeschooling Mama for almost 12 years, and there's nothing a few workbooks for writing, coloring, numbers can't do. I've always said the best curriculum is a library card. But, I would like to ask you, how was it in your house with the late years, like highschool?? I feel like many give advice with the early years and little children, but now that I am in the trenches of teens and high school, I am curious what did you guys did.
    It's been a blessing to "know" you.
    Love from Mexico,

    💜 Thank you Mama! Mine are all grown now, and I wish I'd known about homeschooling then! Even 30 years ago, we had issues with the school system and certain teachers who put down our way of life. Children talked about hunting and calving season, plus some detailed artwork that made the people who run the indoctrination centers "uncomfortable" 🤣. We were able to choose our battles, and encouraged our children to stand firm. Kudos to y'all for blessing children this way!

    I have the same snow globe lantern that you have on the desk behind you. My friend gave it to me for Christmas. I know it may sound trivial, but it has brought me so much joy! It's just so beautiful to watch it at night. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

    • @drycreekmomma
      @drycreekmomma  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That is so cool! I have a little story about mine…my sister and I were at Hobby Lobby and I saw this lantern on the shelf and loved it so much! I couldn’t decide if I should spend the money on it or not, even though it was 40%off…so I put it back, walked around a bit, came back to it, put it in my cart, put it back on the shelf, haha…so my sister says, “do you like it?” I said “I love it!” She says, “does it make you happy?” And I said yes it does. And she says, “Then buy it…you don’t have anything like it at home and you don’t waste money and you deserve it. Buy it.”
      So I bought it. And she was right! It makes me happy and I absolutely love that it glitters and shimmers in light! 😌☺️🥰☃️❄️

    Another great video. I love the central theme of this, which goes beyond just homeschooling but certainly benefited you and all your children while you were homeschooling. Let them be themselves and learn in their own way at their own pace. Get their hands on things. Challenge them and watch them surprise you. And most of all, show them you care. Our current public school systems could use a lot more of this. Thank you for putting this love out there in a way that is genuine and accessible for so many people.

    Thank you for words of wisdom. Been on my home schooling journey and struggling. My grandma always said my boy is all boy. And it’s not an easy task to keep him focused. We are definitely struggling in reading and writing. He is perfectly happy ripping apart motors outside. My 3 year old girl is very interested in learning. They are opposites for sure! I need to learn to enjoy this process more. Have a blessed day. I appreciate these videos.

    • @drycreekmomma
      @drycreekmomma  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you for sharing! I’m glad this video was helpful. Always remember that the best teacher is life itself! Use his love of motors for practical applications of math and other subjects…for a reading “curriculum” let him read a manual or instructions for motors and engines, etc. For writing, have him write an essay, a story, an article, a brochure, even his own manual about what he loves. When kids see a practical application of schooling in their hobbies and every day life, they learn to appreciate it and desire to learn more. For example, my son was really struggling with math, he said “when I grow up I’m gonna be a cowboy, why do I need to know this stuff?”so we started using it in practical ways such as how many hay bales will he need to get through the winter? That’s math! 🤠 He never did learn to love math but he did see the need for it and his attitude changed.
      Good luck and I hope you find what works for you and your son!

    Hi again. I hope things are rolling along well with your video channel, which brings me to my question. How did you, and more specifically, how might you orchestrate your up-in-coming videos regarding Arts and Crafts curriculums? The creative affirmations that come from that kind of high intensity focus is priceless, which brings me to my question, again.
    My Question is, have you looked into, with the collaboration of many others, conducting a craft session, or many, where the kids can actually visualize, create, sign, and sell their own art, under the tutelage of your very experienced wisdom, on Amazon's hand-crafted section? Maybe under some kind of Nonprofit organization setup for tax deductible contributions to favorite charities. Any thoughts?

    My stepfather was a monster. She got with with that man after he lost his family to a fire. He Lost a wife and 2 kids just before he met my mom. Only 1 girl and 1boy made it out. My mom had been abused horribly as a child. That story would kill you inside, trust me. She was sent to group homes and psychiatric hospitals most of her younger life. She was a victim of some doctor in indiana who was later found guilty of destroying peoples lives by keeping them heavily drugged up at his facility. Most weren't crazy at all. She got out because some nurse with a kind heart took it upon herself to stop giving her all the meds. That nurse saved her. Anyway, I was raised by broken 💔 people. I've fought my whole life just to make it above poor white trash. I'm 33 now. I'm probably the poorest person of my friend circle. I have no motivation to make it rich or famous. I don't see my family on pourpus. Hell, I can't even feel anymore. I spend most of my free time in a 1 room apartment hiding from the world. Because I hate the world. That's why. I have every reason to. I even have a beautiful special woman with me. She's the last thing I'll ever love in this world. Even she doesn't see how dead I am inside. That's a good thing. She's deserves a good life. Someone to love her. Sometimes I feel like I can do better. She just tells me it's okay. She understands. Not to worry. Sometimes she catches me with tears in my eyes. Sometimes I leave so she doesn't see.
    That's all
    Think twice before telling your children just how bad YOUR life was/is. The things you do and say will stay in their little minds forever. It's up to you.
