These are outstanding ideas. Ive done 463K in an 01 Outback and now have replaced it with a 2004 Forester. All these problems ive seen. Outstanding suggestions. I might add: Change your coolant yearly, and add 1 Bottle of Subaru Brand Coolant treatment $5 in the little blue plastic Bottle about the size of a Cigarette Pack. Only available at the dealer. This is the best thing to protect your head gaskets. I get 125 to 150K on head gaskets. Ive done several. Yes its $$painful$$. 2) Use Lube Guard Red Transmission Additive in your transmission fluid. I bottle each time you flush your trans. which should be yearly. I bought my outback new and never did this. At 219K the trans failed. I put a used trans in off CL $350, did this treatment right away, then yearly. That trans lasted until I sold the car at 463K, the trans still performing great. Also FYI, the trans has a side mounted spin on oil filter that looks just like a small oil filter. Change that with your annual flush. For all you doubters, just do this, which is how I stumbled on this idea: Google any hi-performance National Subaru Trans rebuilder. They will say they only warranty their trans rebuilds if Lube Guard Red is used. Then go to Lube Guards website, and read how this stuff was developed.
LOVE!!! I will definitely be doing the wind noise hack!!! My 14 hour driving days on 80 mph highways have nearly left my ears bleeding or near dead for hours.
You gave me the idea for building up the weather strip to eliminate the noise !round that part and that is all I had to do eliminate the wind noise on my 2006 Subaru Forester.
I don’t get the fog lights at all, did you make another video on how to splice it? It’s a foreign language your saying to me but I would love to have those over the stock ones
I have a 98 Subaru Forrester it’s been killing me trying to figure out where the hell the cabin filter is I’ve removed the glove box all together I have an idea what I think it may be he just won’t open and every video search for is not a 98
I got the same size foam but it won’t stay stuck in. I cleaned the surface, stuck it in there and the window peels it up when it rolls up! Is it possible to have foam with better adhesion than another?
That's where the wind noise is coming from! I think I have sealed every spot along the window EXCEPT that part 25 years of Subaru Foresters!🤣 Thank you! Tomorrow! On another note: A couple of motor rebuilds? I got 200K on my '98 and have 150K on this 2005! No rebuilds and don't burn oil! Seconf gen Forester is a perfect size, they got too big to go through forest trails after 2009!
Did you ever experience a steady check engine light and blinking cruise control light at the same time? Those just activated on my 08 Forester. If so, what was the cause and fix? Thanks.
@@jackpetronas7195 yes it did and I also got my timing belt and water pump replaced but now my center diff needs to be replaced 😂 but that’s just my luck when I buy a used car 🤷🏻♀️
@@SexyPinata On most cars there is a wiring harness for the mirror even if you didnt have one. It is easier to use one harness for all cars. just tap into that. If you do not have a harness, then yes. Tap into the power from your lights. On this subaru the plug was even the same, so it was a direct bolt in withnot cutting or splicing
The better wind-noise fix is just to clamp the two metal strips back in place. See this video for the fix. BUT… If you’re going to do the weather-strip thing, at least get the black stuff 😉. th-cam.com/video/kMTCehQ57Oo/w-d-xo.html
So the traverse was not bad but not great.... I fastly realized I had transverse mounted motors. Also it eats gas but for what you get you get allot. A sub that can fit 7 people comfortable and still have cargo space. Keep in mind for MPG I went from Subaru to a real american suv with true mpg expectations. Every Subaru I have owned I managed to get about the EPA estimates where the chevy got the true number advertised.
@@83countrysquire I hope it works out for you. Everyone I know that has had a transverse had alot of issues with the body and suspension. They always said the motor was strong and ran good.
@@83countrysquire Lol!! You should do a Vlog on why you you are selling it. Maybe be a short ownership review. I dont blame you for getting rid of it. Alot of people knock FCA for build quality but for me GM is the worst. Have you noticed they took down their "most reliable" commercials off the air as soon as Toyota called them out.
Buck Forty and a couple motor rebuilds, must’ve really cut into your union teacher conventions!!!! and dog shows! Sarcasm couldn’t resist but I miss when Subies were cool.
It didnt save you money in cats, it simply hid the issue 😂 thats highly illegal btw. When your cat melts and clogs its gonna blow your engine. Thanks for the mirror tip though! Have 3 foresters myself and had no idea that was a plug and play option. Same with the trunk mat, genius, go to the junkyard all the time and never thought of that. Window gussets can be "pinched" back into shap unless the rubber has split. And those fogs are probably annoying as hell to whome ever is in front of you with them bouncing up and down constantly being that loose.

Subaru tip #1, make sure the head gaskets have already been replaced before you buy the damn thing

You’re going to regret getting that Chevy.
This Subaru is a beast, I would have never sold it!
I agree 100 💯 with you on that! He just shot himself in the leg 🦵 with that wrong move
The auto dimming mirror is awesome, especially when someone with led foglights is behind you.....
The mirror hack works perfectly! Thanks for the help and making our Forester driving much more comfortable!

lol when I got my 98 it was doing that every-time parked it haha I was trippin until I learned the battery hack
You zipped past the last tip, something about that aluminum spacer on the air intake or something ?
i own a 2002 forester its in the shop it has a sensor or something that is out

Use silicone sealant
Does the weather stripping effect tinted windows
Did you ever find the answer?

When my window goes up it just rolls up the weather strip . I did prep the the with alcohol but no luck
If that happens for you I would recommend getting thin felt strips and using 3M double sided tape instead, there will be less friction on the windows.
