its legit one of the best controllers for FPS, especially combined with gyro aiming. but I be honest its not very good for anything for official controller games, like playing emulator console games on this is just so awkward but I don't think it ever was designed it to be ever like that. playing TF2 made me realize it was basically just designed for KB/M input.
@@banguseater I find it to be great with any game if you spend enough customizing it and figuring out controls. ok so probably part of the reason the xbox has such a high usage isnt actually just the controller itself, for a lot of controllers that dont work properly on pc we use software that hides the controllers input and another that registers it as a 360 controller because its the easiest one to get windows to recognize without issue, currently using a switch pro but also have used a ps4 after burning through about 3 afterglow 360's ( still wish I had them though) Edit: if your wondering, use HidHide and X360ce, especially with darksouls
I'm pretty sure they'll release everywhere else after a little bit. I think they're more so testing the waters with this thing due to how many people use 360 controllers. So it's entirely possible they're trying to gauge if people would use this instead of a 360 controller.
I have five Steam Controllers, two of them are sealed in their boxes never to be opened. I absolutely love the SC, and I urge you to give it a proper shot. You might not like it at first, most people don’t, but you’ll love the heck out of it after you get past its unique feel.

No joke, getting your PS4 controller connected to your computer isn't even that complicated imo, just one button combo and then it connects and is set up quick
…. No trackpads will be a deal-breaker if this thing comes stateside. I’m *still* using my 2016 Steam Controller because it’s the *only* controller that allows me to use my PC as a console without needing to reach for a keyboard (as well as being the only gamepad I’ve ever used for Roller Coaster Tycoon, which brings to mind that I should see how well it works with games like Myst, Sam & Max, and Diner Dash) I feel blessed that my 2016 unit is still working well, considering a spare I bought in 2021 died on me in 2023.
I have like 500 hours on Elden ring with an og steam controller and it's the best one I've ever used. Really disappointed if they decide to use analog sticks instead of the haptic pads.
I swear the Steam controller was actually the most comfortable controller I've ever used. It was definitely weird getting used to the touchpad especially for FPS games, but it just felt so much better to hold. All modern controllers have a sort of convex shape, but the Steam controller was more concave, and that shape works much better in my opinion.
Hori is really good. They've been in the controller making game for literal decades and have some amazing classics. The Hori Digital Controller for the GameCube, and Hori Pad for the N64 are two of their big standouts.
About controllers with back buttons, I got myself a thrustmaster dual analog 3 ages ago and it's one of my best purchases (it got me addicted them), i'm still using it mostly cause there are no good cheap alternatives with back buttons. So you want a controller with them for less than 15 bucks i really recommend it, although be warned, it does feel quite cheap, the triggers are simple buttons and it's missing the home button, on the other side it lasted me ages with still no drift
I was looking up the old steam controller yesterday because I got a steam deck dock, and I saw people say they wanted a steam controller 2. They got what they wanted (kind of)
Hori is pretty well respected, kinda nice they made this, I might pick one up. The original steam controller felt cheap but functioned so so so well, it was genuinely well designed - damn shame it wasn't built to be a more "premium" product at a higher price point - I would've certainly gotten it.
>I don't know if they're good or not Hori has been making _the_ go-to high-quality aftermarket game controllers since Super Nintendo times. Their mini pad has long been hailed as the best controller for N64 and their SNES-shaped GC controller was the favorite among gameboy player enthusiasts. So yeah, they're good.
I feel personally attacked (not really but yeah) because I was „screaming“ about that they didn’t say how many percent use steam controller because I am one of them I got 2of them and the steam link hardware
I have the OG Steam controller and let me tell you, as someone who was born as a console gamer, using it on non controller supported games has been a blast.
Hori has been making controllers, as far as know, at least as far back as the SNES/Genesis era, and they tend to be some of the best among third party controllers. They made the Split Pad for Switch, and the very well known Game Boy Player controller for GameCube and the mini controller for N64
I'm guessing that "can be" means "can be stocked", AKA "it's in production, but there's limited supplies right now as the initial production ramps up, so the number of early orders are likely to HEAVILY influence the production scale of the controllers".
Hori is the company that makes actually good third party controllers, not just fight sticks and unique designs but their line of Nintendo controllers are comparable to the official Pro Controller without costing so much.
Making a PS controller work on a PC: 1. Pair it via bluetooth 2. Use it with games running on steam since the controller is integrated into Steam (You can add external games to your library for easy compatibility)
Hori is pretty good, they've been around for YEARS making licensed controllers for consoles since the PS2 era and they're as good if not better than the original, so they have quite a reputation to hold
The steam controller didn't deserve the hate it got. The reviews on youtube all said "it's ugly and gets fingerprints and it's gimmicky" but the touchpad was good, the haptics were good, the button layout was really good, and the bindings menu added to steam specifically for it is still great.

It will replace the functions of literally every controller I own from 6th gen and above (except for motion controllers like Wii remotes, PS-Move, and Razer Hydra).
hori is one of the best fighting game controllers and has been one of the controller companies most people have brought to fighting game events (until recently with newer stuff like the snackbox for commodity)

It's definitely an acquired taste, and most steam deck users only use the trackpads for typing. Most of the reviews I've seen are "The trackpads and back buttons are cool, but I don't use them for anything."
Ngl, wii u pro controller be pretty comfortable as well.
360, wii u pro, and og steam controllers are all at the top of my list for most comfortable.
I do have a Elite series 2 controller, but for some reason 360 controller is even more comfortable even without rubber grips.
Funny facto: Nintendo switch controllers seem to be in the same category as xbox, so that's why there are so many xbox controllers
So weird how everything has become monochrome, cars, controllers, and fast food buildings. It’s nice seeing actual colors.
Black and white are supposed to be eye-friendly, modern and elegant.
But there are really good colors ngl.
This aint Steam Controller looks way to normal for that.
1:25 that controller look like squidward's face when patrick sat on it
ok so probably part of the reason the xbox has such a high usage isnt actually just the controller itself, for a lot of controllers that dont work properly on pc we use software that hides the controllers input and another that registers it as a 360 controller because its the easiest one to get windows to recognize without issue, currently using a switch pro but also have used a ps4 after burning through about 3 afterglow 360's ( still wish I had them though)
Edit: if your wondering, use HidHide and X360ce, especially with darksouls
I'm pretty sure they'll release everywhere else after a little bit. I think they're more so testing the waters with this thing due to how many people use 360 controllers. So it's entirely possible they're trying to gauge if people would use this instead of a 360 controller.
I have five Steam Controllers, two of them are sealed in their boxes never to be opened.
I absolutely love the SC, and I urge you to give it a proper shot. You might not like it at first, most people don’t, but you’ll love the heck out of it after you get past its unique feel.
Xbox controllers also have the best layout and definitely helps with how many people use them
360 finally found it's match when it was connected to a submarine
im sure valve has multiple sectors or whatever but I genuinely thought the next bit of hardware valve would release would be... you know... a VR headset.
No joke, getting your PS4 controller connected to your computer isn't even that complicated imo, just one button combo and then it connects and is set up quick
…. No trackpads will be a deal-breaker if this thing comes stateside.
I’m *still* using my 2016 Steam Controller because it’s the *only* controller that allows me to use my PC as a console without needing to reach for a keyboard (as well as being the only gamepad I’ve ever used for Roller Coaster Tycoon, which brings to mind that I should see how well it works with games like Myst, Sam & Max, and Diner Dash)
I feel blessed that my 2016 unit is still working well, considering a spare I bought in 2021 died on me in 2023.
As someone who's used a Hori gamecube controller for the better party of 6 years now, I can confirm they make phenomenal controllers
I was looking up the old steam controller yesterday because I got a steam deck dock, and I saw people say they wanted a steam controller 2. They got what they wanted (kind of)
Hori is pretty well respected, kinda nice they made this, I might pick one up. The original steam controller felt cheap but functioned so so so well, it was genuinely well designed - damn shame it wasn't built to be a more "premium" product at a higher price point - I would've certainly gotten it.
if we estimate that 10k yen = 50 pounds, then like £45 for that controller with back controls is INSANE
>I don't know if they're good or not
Hori has been making _the_ go-to high-quality aftermarket game controllers since Super Nintendo times. Their mini pad has long been hailed as the best controller for N64 and their SNES-shaped GC controller was the favorite among gameboy player enthusiasts. So yeah, they're good.
Keep in mind, the yen is really weak right now. That control would cost like $70 2 years ago.
I subbed as soon as you said the 360 controller was the best ever. You obviously know what you are talking about!
Bro's rant was actually relatable, he said everything i would've wanted to say, well done!
I wonder if this is gonna be the controller for Oceangate's next deathtrap.
The touchpads are a really good idea for mimicing mouse movement instead of forcing you to dawdog the analog sticks
Horii has historically been a really good peripheral manufacturer.
I'm guessing that "can be" means "can be stocked", AKA "it's in production, but there's limited supplies right now as the initial production ramps up, so the number of early orders are likely to HEAVILY influence the production scale of the controllers".
This man got so pissed off at controller pricing at the end that he became Peter griffin.
Hori has made controllers 2 decades ago that are now worth hundreds since they were discontinued. I'd say that's a good sign of quality right there.
Hori is the company that makes actually good third party controllers, not just fight sticks and unique designs but their line of Nintendo controllers are comparable to the official Pro Controller without costing so much.
Hmm, I should pull my steam controller back out and use it again.
Hori as a company made a re design of the N64 controller that's the best controller ever designed so at this rate they can do practically anything.
HORI has a long standing reputation for making high quality and innovative controllers, I am sure they will not disappoint
Making a PS controller work on a PC:
1. Pair it via bluetooth
2. Use it with games running on steam since the controller is integrated into Steam (You can add external games to your library for easy compatibility)
Steam controller 1 is still one of my favorite controllers.
Edit: oh im that guy.
Wishlist for a Valve-made Steam Controller 2:
-Dual capacitive/pressure-sensitive trackpads like Steam Deck
-Analog triggers with a digital click at 100% actuation like Steam Controller 1/Gamecube
-Headphone Jack like Xbox One/Series
-Microphone/Speakers on par with Steam Deck
-Dual capacitive thumbsticks like Steam Deck/Hori Steam Controller
-Pressure sensitive ABXY/D-PAD like Dualshock 2/3/OG Xbox controller
-L/R 1-5 buttons
-Gyro and Accelerometer
If a Steam Controller 2 has *all of this* I can get rid of every single controller I own except for this. It will replace the functions of literally every controller I own from 6th gen and above (except for motion controllers like Wii remotes, PS-Move, and Razer Hydra).
hori controller user (got the pro joycons they make), they're pretty high quality :P
Oh hey it's actually functional this time and doesn't crack your fingers
hori is one of the best fighting game controllers and has been one of the controller companies most people have brought to fighting game events (until recently with newer stuff like the snackbox for commodity)
BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL STEAM CONTROLLER I WANT ONE
As a guy who uses a PS4 controller on PC. YES I never even dared to try to connect them wirelessly. I just plug the thing in every time. Plus half the games do not support it, so technically I can play on it, but I have to figure out controls by myself because the game doesn't know itself.
