    I love my moss poles honestly, they’re easy for me, and so far my adensonii is 6 feet tall with 1.5 foot leaves ❤

      🤣🤣 YES! I would totally listen to that band! Maybe it could be a plant-themed rock group? 🌿🎸 Thanks for the laugh, Wendyvee!

    Stop teasing us,Puleeeeze…😅 That begonia is stunning.😍
    The moss poles are good for propagating,but yeah I’ve stopped putting every plant on a moss pole.😂😂
    I find Syngonium and cane begonias need "plant scaffolding"😂

    Janky scaffolds is now my favorite phrase. 😂 It would also be a great band name lol!

    I am sooo onboard with the janky support stick. I'm down to one large plant on a moss pole. While it absolutely gorgeous, I hate dealing with it. Our furnace heat makes it even less fun. I know you use those plastic backed poles, but a six foot piece of plastic in my living room is about the last thing I want to spend my time looking at 🤣
    An under-caffeinated Memo is the most entertaining Memo, btw 😆

      Haha, glad you liked it Dave, I try to still bring some laughs even under-caffeinated! 😂 Totally hear you about the poles; sometimes they’re more trouble than they’re worth. Thanks for sticking around, and for the fun comment, you always give my a good laugh! 🌿✨

    Last week, I repotted my Frydek. I was out of proper support sticks, so I used my cat's toy (a fluffy mouse on a plastic stick). It does the job. And about my room humidity, as I told you, it is 78-92% now. It makes my Philos and my Ficus Bengalensis grow aerial roots 😮 My Esme Philo is sizing up now. I never managed to get a single moss pole. My Melano and Verrucosum died this summer, and I don't really care 😈

      Haha, using your cat’s toy is such a creative solution! 😂 Sometimes you just have to improvise, right? Sounds like your room is a perfect little plant paradise! 🌿

    Yayyyyy, janky support sticks for the win 😂 I have lots of climbers growing just fine on jankies, including my Philodendrons Felix, eximium, holtonianum, and the Floridas. My Anthuriums balaoanum and polyschistum are sizing up beautifully on them, too. I also have plants supported by broomstick handles and large branches that I've collected from woodlands (with permission, of course). 😁 While mosspoles are great for some plants, they're a real pain to maintain, so I'm very choosy as to which plants go on them. Great video as always, Memo 👏🏼👏🏼🫶🏻

    The Jose Bueno does beautifully on a moss pole. It’s easier than a lot of my other plants on poles as it has very tight internodal spacing so I don't have to extend it frequently. I love keeping it on a pole as it keeps the leaves to a 180-degree spread instead of a 360!

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great point, Caroline! 🌿 I can see how that tight spacing makes the José easier to manage on a pole. Love how you’ve found what works best for your setup! 💚

    Cane Begonias, like other terrestrial plants, shrubs, and trees, support themselves with their roots and stems. With a larger pot it would grow a lot more roots and thicker stems to stabilize itself.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point! 🌱 It’s amazing how some plants, like Cane Begonias, really adapt to their environment. Bigger pots = stronger roots, and that’s a win! 🙌 Thanks for sharing your insight!

  • @TOEKIEWORLDMarc

    Although many tropicals don't really need a moss pole for support, I do ted to use them as they are essential to gripping aerial roots and make it easier to propagate then.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Marc! 😊 That’s a great point-moss poles do help with aerial roots! 🌿 I totally get why you'd use them, especially if you’re into propagating. Some of these plants can still size up pretty well without, but I agree that it’s all about finding what works best for your setup! 🙌

    Nice to see that the Monstera Siltepecanna seem able to grow bigger without a mosspole. Have been pondering what I should do with mine, it's rather small still as I got it as a baby. Growing like a weed tho, and threatening to migrate out of the pot. I've been putting off deciding, as I want it to grow big. But at the same time, can't really picture it looking good on a mosspole.. So, thank you. This video helped me decide, I'll have it on a support stick instead.

    Nice video as usual. My biggest leaved plant now in our condo is my Birds Nest Anthurium Red stalk Rainforest. The D-shaped petiole is so rigid that I cannot squish even if I tried. Funny thing is Pachyneuriums get humungous and thankfully I am only able to grow it about 3-ish ft long per leaf otherwise we would not have space & would need to cut off unruly leaves. I saw huge Pachyneuriums both set up as dangling/hanging and terrestrially at the Singapore cloud forest they had 5 ft+ long leaves.
    I mentioned Ruellia Simplex before and I'd like to bring it up again. It is a weed, and an okay houseplant that does not need support. It has small leaves actually but in terms of height it can get big/tall and has bamboo feels. I have 3 stems which have different heights on a recycled cup, and looks good that way. Been growing them indoor for about half a year or more 🌿

    The siltepacana wont get very large without the moss pole. And it absolutely does size up much faster,. When mine was on a steak, the leaves definitely got larger they're about twice the size they were trailing, but that was it.
    It also depends on what form you have, the El Salvador form can get larger, it keeps it silver and it fenesteates with a handful of holes in the leaf, but the regular form, can actually get quite skeletal The leaves don't get quite as large, and it loses its silver.
    I would actually highly recommend if you have a silte, If you want to see how it matures to absolutely stick it on a pole, the only thing I will note is that this is an incredibly vigorous thrower, and I have had my plant for about a year and a half and I have chopped and extended it three times already. I get a new leaf about every 5 days or so, the Note spacing isn't huge, but it just is a vigorous grower, and I found that it will frequently activate lower auxiliary growth buds, on its own and sends those up bushing it out.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Such a detailed insight, thank you! 🌿✨ You’re absolutely right about the siltepecana, especially depending on the form. It’s always great to see how different growing setups can bring out different traits! Sounds like your plant is thriving, and that’s awesome! 🌱💪

    I followed Sydney Plant Guys round & D-shape moss poles w/ proven success for 2yrs now. Poles should be no less than 15in. circum. AND 3ft tall too avoid drying out too quickly. D-shape holds moisture longer & showcases 1-2 vines specimens & back-leaf interest. Climbers will not show their best in form nor leaf-size & shape w/o each of those roots growing in/onto something. DIY your own poles is worth it to see White Princess grow large ROUND leaves w/ short, tight petioles. You won’t get that type of growth habit from a janky support stick.😉

      @@Houseplantygoodness I don't have a whole lot of grow lights, but then I was thinking that I had a few of the Christmas lights.. You know, the tiny little led lights on a really long chain (18 meters - for outdoor use I think).. I use them on the walls, hanging on shelfs and pictures.. Or hanging from a hook in the ceiling.. They give a very nice light to the very dark corners, and the plants loves it 😊

    .. Holy sh.... 😳 Are my Begonia Brevi going to be that big?? Woow.. What a beauty she will be 🤗.. Just bought one after more than 6 months of making up my mind.. Sure it's s just a baby, for now.. Bought a Begonia Carolinia too.. I'm excited to see how they will do growing up ☺️ my José Buono are still very young, but oh boy, I can't help stare at the pattern on the leaves ☺️ and this is where I could do with a bit of help.. Please.. I bought a Philodendron with leaves shape similar to philodendron Florida.. But, it was sold from as a Philodendron hybrid (yeah, right.. That is like calling everyone O'connor no matter what their name is).. Only I've noticed a greenish pattern on the leaves that reminds me of the pattern on painted lady.. Any idea of what philodendron it might be??..

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, it sounds like you have an incredible collection! 😍✨ Yes, Begonia Brevi can definitely grow pretty big, so get ready for a show-stopper! 💚 As for the Philodendron, it’s tricky without seeing it, but it sounds intriguing! Maybe it could be a Painted Lady hybrid, or even a Philodendron Hastatum variant? 🤔 Keep me posted on how it grows! 🌿

      @@Houseplantygoodness haha Memo, a weekend and a whole lot of philodendron leaves later I've got it 😃 my "philodendron hybrid" (hybrid because the store don't know what they are selling.. As usual) is in fact a Philodendron pedatum 'Glad hands', a variant of Philodendron pedatum, native to Ecuador, spread up to 1,2 meters and up to 2,5 meters high 😳 Oh boy 😂.. "The leaves have a moderate bicolorous quality, with medium to dark green shades" (the pattern I noticed).. I wish that I could show you my plants as they grow up, but it's a wee little tricky..
