This Bike Was ALMOST Perfect

  • My Crewkerz competition trials bike was nearly perfect. One too many skips of the front freewheel had me searching for some new options - and I found it in the form of an Industry9 hub.
    Most trials bikes utilize a front freewheel setup, so this is a big change for a competition bike setup. Big thanks to Carsinn Wilson and Matt Gilman for all the mechanical support with this project!

    The smallest chainring I can find for my 104 BCD crank is 30t, I have a 9spd 11-36 sprocket ( bike is also for commute) would you suggest 9spd 11-40t?

      I think you could make that work, for sure!

    Upgrades, riding (group ride no less) and even a hop n pop.
    Great clip.
    Also makes me want a comp bike, even if it's not as fancy as that one.

      Thanks!! Can you tell the comp bike has kind of taken over lately? Having so much fun with this bike!

    I had a FFW on my old trials bike- it was OK. On my MTB I have a Hope Pro4 for gears and for streety playing I have an I9 SS hub. Those engagement points are insane...

    It's hard to think of a rim that is more holes than not as being strong. Wonder how they hold up with linebacker sized riders?

      Interestingly enough, I bent the original rim on a ride a few weeks ago (not too bad, I was able to get it back in shape with a spoke wrench). That was the first time I've ever bent a wheel on any bike...

    Hi Aaron, upon discovering your channel about a month ago you have become my main inspiration and mentor on my mtb skill journey. Thanks a ton! My question is, would it be more efficient to jump on a street trial bike to learn trial skills and transfer it back to my 9ner full sus, comparing to sticking with my initial bike and progressing slowly? (heard about a seasoned mtber complaining having absolutely no edge when he switched to a comp bike and had to relearn everything all over again)

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sunny! Thanks for watching! I agree, you'll have a much easier time transferring your skills from a 26" street trials bike (Inspired Hex or something like that) to a mountain bike. The positioning on a competition bike doesn't lend itself that well to MTB positioning. If you have any trouble finding a 26" street trials bike, you'd be totally fine to get your hands on a dirt jump frame and put a longer stem on it. Super similar setup and should do the trick! Have fun!

    I’ve got a front freewheel on a comas r26, do they all skip? Ive heard that crack skip sort of noise before. Cheers nick

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the skip! They do eventually bed in, but it can take a little time to get to that point. Eventually it stops…I’m just extremely impatient. :)

    Hi just wandering what size front and rear sprockets do you run on this bike ?

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      18t in the front, 15t in the rear!

  • @dansacco1964

    Was the front freewheel and crank interface shimano HG splines or is it a proprietary design?

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, HG Splines - it's a "normal" freewheel that could pop on any other hub (with HG splines).

      The sound of stereo high engagement might be too much stimulation for a mere mortal.

    • @jeffhayes1855
      @jeffhayes1855 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s a funny idea - will it be a case of “the weakest link” and be only as good as the least engaging free spinny ratchet thing?

    • @sapinva
      @sapinva ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffhayes1855 Maybe add a clutch on the chain. Chain tensioners tend to do that anyway.

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could...but it wouldn't help your engagement. Instead of one fixed point and one freewheel, you'd essentially have two floating points. That all adds up to less overall engagement (and more moving parts to deal with). Not recommended. :)
