      @@JC.Journey so me and my wife gave the car camping a shot. And to my support my wife enjoyed it. She on board on figuring out how we can make it batter and more organized. It was a train wreck for our first time. The 4in foam topper definitely didn’t work for us. We have the same vehicle and it hurt our hips and back. But what I’d like to know is how do y’all have enough room to sleep with the kitchen set up on the back taking up that space? How many inches of the back does the kitchen use? I’m trying to figure out how we will manage for next time. Do y’all use a pop up tent to bathroom/shower/changing?

    • @JC.Journey

      @@jaredrobertson1955 The camping setup does take a lot of trial and error, to figure out what works best for you. Each trip out gives opportunity for improvements until the setup is fine tuned.(our current setup has been years in the making, since our Pilot was brand new). I don't have measurements in front of me for the kitchen, but for some perspective it fits within the cargo area with the 3rd row in the seating position. The length of our trifold mattress is slightly trimmed, for a nice snug fit. We are not tall, so it fits us just fine. We do have a pop up shelter for bathroom/shower etc and we also use a 6x6 screen room with privacy/wind panels. I'll leave links in the description. Hope that's helpful. 😊

    Your cozy SUV camping bed setup is simply awesome, and I'm loving how you've turned your Honda Pilot into a comfortable adventure rig. The Milliard Tri-fold mattress seems like a fantastic choice, and I appreciate the recommendation. Plus, the addition of the camp kitchen at the back is a game-changer! Your attention to detail is impressive, and I can tell you've put a lot of thought into making your camping experience comfy and enjoyable. Those decorative white lights are a lovely touch, and it's great to see how you've incorporated fans for ventilation. Keep those fantastic videos coming - you're inspiring many of us to hit the road and explore! 🚗🏕

    Dear Jody and Chris,
    I'm properly impressed with your most thoughtful and well outfitted Honda Pilot SUV camper! The custom kitchen is the smartest and most attractive I've seen... all you need and nothing more. You've used every square inch, superbly! And so beautifully well organized! I'm very interested in the details for how you've modified the tri-fold mattresses. Can you please do a video covering the alterations process?! Many thanks, and bravo on your oh so stylish Carsita 😍❣️

      Thanks so much! I'm so glad you find them helpful We hope to get a video out about the mattress modification. In a nutshell, we trimmed a bit off the length of foam with an electric carving knife. For us, it was more so that we don't have to adjust our front seats forward while in sleep mode (with the kitchen build in place, we would have needed to move the seats forward every night to accommodate the full mattress length). Hope that makes sense. 😊

  • @jeffclark5268
    @jeffclark5268 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I did the same…sort of…in a CRV. I built a frame/box for the hatch back area that levelled my bed. Fridge, food, kitchen, etc went under the back 1/2 of the bed. Because of the slope of the seats this created a small area under the front half of the bed for further storage.
    DW and I spent over 40 nights in the CRV in the last year with this setup. Did many work trips as a driving vacation instead of me flying alone and being away for two weeks.
    Have upgraded to an EV9 now. Same story. Camping every 2nd weekend is the menu now.

    Does your Pilot fit a 52inch wide Millards Tri fold mattress?

    • @JC.Journey
      @JC.Journey  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No, I don't think so. A 52" wide mattress would need some trimming. We currently use (2) 25" wide Milliard trifold mattresses, side by side. The Pilot is more narrow in the 3rd row, wheel well area (about 48" wide, I think). Our two mattresses, side by side = 50" wide & does fit in the narrow section, but I doubt 52" would compress enough to fit in that area. Hope that's helpful. 😊

    How is the ground clearance with the Pilot, and do you ever off-road with it? I've been looking at the pilots, as well as Nissan Armadas. Currently camping in a lifted Chevy Astro with AWD. I like being higher up, especially when we off road...but now looking for a different vehicle. I like that the Pilot gets better gas mileage, but I also travel with my kiddos, so space is essential.

    We have a 2019 Honda Pilot. How did you modify the 4" Millard mattress?

    • @JC.Journey
      @JC.Journey  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We just trimmed a few inches off the length. Sounds funny, but an electric bread knife works well on foam. It only needed trimming because of the kitchen build. Without the build the length of the mattress would fit. We are short, so it works for us! Hope that helps.

  • @gigilaroux762
    @gigilaroux762 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So is third row seat always down and the kitchen rests against it while it is down? Or when driving is the third row seat up providing a support for the kitchen?
    What size trifold mattress do you have and did you have to cut the length down?
    We have Honda Pilot just like that and we are trying to find a solution for those nights when we are only there for one night and don’t want to set up the roof top tent. What’s cool is our fridge and cooler and power supply fits behind the third row with only a few inches to spare.

    • @JC.Journey
      @JC.Journey  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, thanks so much for watching! We designed the kitchen so that it fits with the 3rd row up (great for when it's in "daily driver" mode) because I still have all of the kitchen and the power supply for day trips. It can also stay in place with the 3rd row down and both mattresses in place.
      We have 2 "single" size Milliard trifold mattresses (each is 25" wide) they fit perfectly width wise. We did modify one of the sections of each mattress to fit the length due to the kitchen staying in place in "sleep mode". It works for us because we are short and we don't want to move the front seats forward during sleep mode. If moving the seats forward doesn't bother you, you might be able to fit the full length of all 3 portions of the trifold along with your fridge, cooler and power supply (hope that makes sense). The trifolds have been a game changer & they are so much easier to move around! Hope this is helpful. While it's not for everyone, we really love camping out of the Pilot! Happy New Year! Happy Camping!😊🎉
