This Should Be on EVERY Motorhome!! 360 Birds Eye Camera

  • I finally did it!!! I bought this camera system over a year ago, I have been talking about it for over a year, so I figured I would finally install it while the weather is still nice enough.
I have been previledged to drive many RVs across the country over the years and on many of the nicer motorhomes, they come equipped with an all around birdeye view camera system that has won me over with the added safety and security as a driver that normal backup and side view cameras do not offer. Especially as modern cars now have this as a more common feature with less blind spots than a RV/Bus, it was a system I wanted to add to my motorhome to protect it and those around me and those inside, but it took me awhile to find a system that would work and still look good and be inexpensive to recommend.
As I said in the video, the system I used was for automotive use and the stitching was lack luster and I could not find it anymore on Amazon. But I did almost install this other system which looks very similar, but decided not to use as the cameras were a little bigger, and the video output is only HDMI, but I suppose in hindsight a HDMI to composite adapter could have been used. The reviews I see on the other system have been good too.
This was a long video in the making and appeciate you watching it and hope it helps inspire you as an owner and the RV industry to make these systems standard and help increase safety and comfort for everyone.
    Thanks for watching!

Bus/RV camera system that might be better: amzn.to/4a021TU

Hard to believe there is no aftermarket system for an RV... That would be a great upgrade for any older RV. Great Job!

I installed an Owl Eye 360 on my RV about 6 years ago. They had a RV version with extra long cables. The installation was pretty easy but the calibration was a pain. The system worked great EXCEPT for the small 4-wire round connectors. One at a time they all failed. So, one at a time, I cut off the connectors and hardwired everything. I never had any issues since. I love the 360 system. Yes, I use my mirrors but having a single place to glance to get a 360 comprehensive view of what's around me. I did use the turn signal inputs and really appreciated having the 360 view bias towards my turn.

RVS(Rear View Safety) has a couple of quality 360 cameras. I installed one on my motorhome and it works as well as any factory one. It also records all of the cameras while they are on. They are a little expensive but so is the motorhome you are trying to protect!

If you like James' videos, and you want to show him some love, make sure you use the link in the description when you buy this system, or anything else from Amazon! It won't cost you a cent more, but it will help him keep bringing great videos! I bought my Beaver Monterey because of all I learned from this channel, and pretty much all upgrades and repairs have been the result of James' expertise!

Well done, as always. Tempted to get something like that for my car. Would love to have had video recorded on all 4 sides when KS troopers pulled me over claiming I wandered onto the shoulder line, as an excuse to do a traffic stop in April. Quickly followed by a canine trooper whose dog of course alerted for drugs, when there were none. At least 4 cop cars, with 3 or 4 cops rummaging through my car on a warrantless search for about 15 minutes, finding nothing of course in their 30+ minutes of hassling me. So I'm thinking 4 front/inside dashcams for starters, one in each direction. And 4 externals for birds eye would be good too. Insurance claims or hitting a curb are the least of our problems with cops out there making stuff up to justify pawing through everything in your vehicle. I was lucky they didn't plant drugs, they were so intent on finding some, now that they have pot-loving states on both sides.

@EfficientRVer: Our motorcycle group in California had a former CHP member who would always mention when the traffic stop conversation came up: "Remember, it's not what we find in your vehicle that's important. It's what we leave in your vehicle that's important"! Wow! From an actual LEO who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution. Always blew me away!
So, Joe is rummaging and leaves something for Fred to find a few minutes later.

Excellent job Sir. Wiring may bite but it is better than a delayed wireless image. Wireless between my garage and home is ok, but driving that 2 seconds is an issue. You make things so easy looking, I could never wire and set up a camera on a car in an hour, you really excel, lol. It looks good on your rig hardly even see it. Stay safe and healthy, hope you are getting out in the Beaver and spending time at your compound.

My 2007 has the side and rear cameras but they are circa early 2000's. Any 2024 camera would be a huge upgrade but the 360 Birds Eye once you use one and see it on newer cars it is very helpful. I can only imagine the usefulness on a 45' camper. Thanks for your videos as usual.

I'm glad I ran across this video. I've got a 35 foot Class A that only has a back up camera and I absolutely hate it! I was going to put separate side cameras on it for night driving but it looks like what you just installed is miles ahead of that. I have that exact same radio in my rig but it has a different brand name. I'm going to scour Amazon and find a four camera system and install it on my rig. Thanks for the time you put into making this video, it helps me tremendously!

  • @RemyRAD
    @RemyRAD 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

Ummm, the connectors. On those exterior cameras are what we know as, S-Video, connectors. That use four wires. 2 for black-and-white. 2 for color. In high resolution. With the required power, superimposed, piggyback. In the video wire, to the cameras. As you likely found those through a, professional video equipment supply company. I reckon.
I love your shows. And it's thanks to you. I recently purchased this, 22-year-old, 2002, Monaco, Knight. 34 PST, rare, short, diesel pusher. With 65,100 miles on the odometer. Everything inside, 100% stock, looking like new. Everything works. Purchased from a very elderly couple. Who owned it for only the past 4, years. Who purchased it from another, elderly woman whose husband had died. They cared for this thing like their baby. Nothing worn out, abuse, broken. Nothing modified. No holes in the wall. Everything beautiful natural, stained woods. Nothing cracked. Nothing warped. Nothing puckered. And the exterior looks great. The roof could use a cleaning. I'm glad it'll give me something to do. As there is really nothing to do. It's in such beautiful condition.
And I figured for $25,000 cash. I got something that will last. As I keep everything a very long time. I take excellent care of my property. To make things last. As this is sort of like, subjecting your house. To an all day, Earthquake. Every single day. And not expecting any damage. How unrealistic can you get? As you'll be lucky to have a place to sleep. When you get to where you were going. If it hasn't fallen off. Underneath you.
I think for a serious nomad. A, Class-A, diesel pusher. Is, the way to go. You may not do as much, dirt OffRoading. In a low ground clearance, Class-A. These are not off-road vehicles for, OffRoading. These are really meant for pavement.
Class-B & C's. More adept at OffRoading. Higher ground clearance. Big oversize chunky tires. Far less weight. All-wheel-drive options.
So I shan't be doing much, OffRoading with my 30,000 pound, diesel pusher. With pavement style ground clearance. As it's just that and a, powered mountain bicycle. I'm not interested in towing anything. Though I have in the past and I could. I don't like backing up. Backing up is not an option. I am not interested. In, backing up. And that's not if but when.
Plus I really love my short, 34 footer. Though it has no real basement storage capabilities. That is abysmal. Abysmally small. Not like the bigger units. That half, ample basement storage. This unit almost none. Less than my, 30 foot, 1986, Fleetwood Southwind Gasser. Which actually had a lot more, storage area under the coach.
And with 3 slide outs. Out of the 4 possible. It could have been ordered with. I figured 3 out of 4, ain't bad. The exterior paint and graphics look great. And no gaudy colors. Shades of eggshell white, light gray, dark gray and black. It looks very classy and very stealth. Just my style. I really couldn't have ordered one better for myself. As I had almost gotten a 2006, Monaco Dynasty. Which was huge. For a lot less money. But the house next door to it. Burn it down. And it got a little hot. In places. Then the refrigerator burst into flames. But was quickly extinguished. So it had a little damage. And was only $10,000. But decided to pass on that one. It was not ready for immediate prime time usage. And that would have been wild to own. It's a full 2 bedroom apartment on wheels. But it's only for me and me, alone. As an old widow of 69.
In the smaller one is easier to maneuver. Easier to get into National Parks. And is great for a single, retired, person. To be driving around a luxurious 1 bedroom apartment. That appears to be hardly lived in, ever. And the 2 old couples. Only drove it 65,000 miles. In 22 years. The couple I purchased it from work 88 and 85 years of age respectively. He purchased it when he was 84. They usually don't get, too wild or destructive. At that age. The couple before them purchased it in their 60s. There appears to be no child or grandchild, damage, committed. And no one has broken anything. From using excessive force or usage. Just what you want in a beautiful used perfectly great motorhome.
And I largely have you, sir. And you are TH-cam, channel. To thank for this. Then Liz Amazing also. You 2 guys are responsible for my purchasing decision. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And thank you. For your concerted efforts. Now the marvelous education you have provided me with.
And so there is a good chance. I shall look you up in Arizona. To stop on by. And check me out. Or, at least my, New Used, Motorhome. And we could do lunch. I'm buying. Just, so you know. And whatever else you charge. For your services.
I really haven't found anything wrong with it. Maybe you won't either? I haven't found any leaks, any mold. It's pristine. I have found that one slide out, long rubber seal. That could use some improvement. It's starting to let go. On the inside kitchen. And dining table slide out. There are no outside amenities. Which is fine. Other than the awnings.
Oh I'm sure you will find something. That should be addressed and/or improved, modified, upgraded. Yes! It's all in how much I have, to spend, that month. Resources are greatly limited. Called money. As I'm doing something I really can't afford to do. And it's a financial juggling act. And I'm good on the compromise. I'm a lifelong camper. It's all my parents fault. I so love them for that. May they rest in peace. Now without, the tent, station wagon, van or camper. Now with the, Central Park West, apartment on wheels. It's bonkers, it's so nice. So perfect. So like new. I think a great deal for $25,000 cash.
And so it was really your 2001, Beaver that sold me on the Monaco. And your profound history. Thank you. You are my lifelong friend now. And I am your Subscriber. You made a profound difference for me.
I made this may not be quite as nice as your Beaver. But it's damn close. Though it's got the stupid radiators, in the back. Not on the side. Engine access. From the floor. Of my overstuffed closet. Of course. But beggars can't be choosers. When I only had $25,000 to spend. So I could not get your Beaver. I have my own Beaver. And I'm a woman with a Monaco. So I got both. One for me and one to drive. And that has worked out, great. And my bags, still inflate. Then I can push the button on the dash. Then hear them. Hissing, like a bunch of, angry snakes under my rig. And then it goes limp. Then settles down a bit. The levelers work. But I don't think automatically? I think I had a couple of, intermittent's with the automatic transfer switch? A couple of times early on. Until I started using it more and again. Now it hasn't done that in a number of connections and generator operations, again. And I later. Worked the manual, circular, transfer switches. Working slowly a couple of times around. To ensure any crud was dislodged.
I've got 2 new, chassis batteries. But I am having some intermittency. With the windshield wiper switch. It is no longer reliable. It's shot. It needs replacement. Or, an external retrofit.
I absolutely hate, the lousy back up, alone. I want more cameras. Better cameras. Recordable, cameras. And maybe a 360°, camera system. Yeah, in high-resolution color. And infrared capabilities. I'm an old woman. And I don't want to crunch anything. I did that a couple of times. With my other motorhome. I got that out of my system. I do not need to crunch anything, anymore, ever, again. I will not try to beginning into tight spaces. There is no real reason for that. I can have other fun. I will not risk my home again. Especially with 3 slide outs. It's very difficult. Driving with the slides, out. It rocks side to side a lot more. Great with the music up loud. But people tell me I should have them in. Why? They slide out. No? Not when you're driving? But it gives me more room to walk to the bathroom. Once I put it in cruise control. As it has a tendency. To drift out of its lane. If I'm not saying on to the stupid, steering wheel. We cruise control on. So the cruise control does not work correctly. I cannot go to the bathroom. With the video in motion. At the slides out. So that needs to be looked at.
Either way I will likely make it to Arizona in one piece. On my motorhome. I think? As it's so nice outside. Why should I be in the motorhome I'm driving it? I would like to put any modification. So that I could drive it from the roof, outdoors. I will be able to get a better tan that way. As long as I make enough turns. You know? To keep it even. But I can not lie down while I'm driving. Unless I can prop my head up more. Maybe you can help me with that? Or, I'll just do it from inside the coach. But that won't be as much fun. Oh well. I don't have that much money to spend, anyhow. So, never mind. I'll buy lunch.
I love your channel. Keep it going. You are great! RV Expert A Z. Thanks for everything.

You've inspired me. Been sitting on my garmin bc50... I'm thinking I'll run the power wire through roof into the rear AC - put the transmitter under the AC cover. If that works, I'll not have to run anything underneath and I can use the backup camera prep location instead of a license plate mount. Lastly, I may look at mounting some emitters to extend/improve the night vision range, but we'll see what the mock up results look like first.

Everything runs on 12v and i have a monitor above driver seat. 2 cams on rear, one view above the other so i can see from hitch to horizon in rear. 2 cams on pass side i can see from front mirror to horizon on rear. One cam on driver side. Helps a lot at night as well and it records to ssd drive. I used hi gain antenna on the dvr and standard antennas on cams rarely if ever loses video. Dvr in front in top cabinet by driver.

Noticed the MPG reading on the dash 3.0 mpg really? Maybe need to clean injectors or is this normal? I would have thought you'd get closer to 6. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h

Also, what is best way to located and plug every hole that a mouse would use to get into the RV living space. I’m finding mouse droppings. Thanks!

The camera is just shaped differently, nothing bad looking just a bit bigger, but similar to the Entegra and Newmar camera size.

  • @KenMrKLC
    @KenMrKLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Its ironic you just made this video... I just did something very similar in a few ways to my 33 ft Newmar Class A. I took Harbor Freights 8 channel 4 cam DVR survelence system name Cobra and installed the 4 cams and a 24" monitor up where the orig tube type tv was above driver and passenger seats overhead. I have the same head unit as you only branded by Boss not whatever company yours it but I also know it sell under another name too I cant remember but they are all the same just with different startup logos and logos on the screen. They have a 8 and a 10" model. But more of the similar is I taped into the rear camera factory wiring to get signal for new rear cam like you and I am trying to get the screen I have in monitor which serves as a security cam all 4 sides when parked I want the feed to be on the head unit while driving and use as a dash cam for all 4 views that way and all wired without lag etc. Only issue I have now is only RCA input for head unit when my DVR unit only has VGA and HDMI output. So I am researching a converter which they seem to make for both hdmi and vga. I think I prefer the hdmi but where I alread have hdmi for the larger overhead monitor I installed I would also need to Y that signal then convert... Where maybe if I can use the VGA if it outputs to both at the same time or at least easily switchable in the menu I wouyld get vga to rca and be able to keep them both plugged in and not have to switch each time I drive. Plus having the overhead large while driving is great for any passengers in the back to keep and eye on the surroundings and be 2nd, 3rd or 4th sets of eyes possiblly preventing a issue.

Really nice job! --- QUESTION -- Is it possible to install adaptive cruise control on a 2007 Country Coach Magna or a Beaver? I assume that they don't have that feature.. But can it be installed? How about lane keep assistance and some of that advanced driver aids?

I have no doubt a system could be added much like the mobile eye, I cannot say I find any of those systems to be enjoyable enough for me and the adaptive cruise with an engine brake is frustrating sometimes.
