I had my phone stolen when I was in the middle of a 3k mile road trip. drove to the nearest truck stop, picked up a map & kept on going. That last half of the trip was SO nice
I literally clicked on this as a random thumbnail because I recognized the car. My grandparents (who passed in 2011 and 2017) had a gold LTD just like this one when I was a kid. They sold it in 1995 to buy a brand new Grand Marquis which ultimately was their last car. So many amazing memories of riding around in that car. I still remember the smell of that interior and the clock that rolled the time like an odometer. Thanks for bringing up some warm memories
I can vouch for that. Had a 76 LTD wagon, in "Bigfoot blue", a silver 76 Grand Marquis, fully loaded, and a triple black 77 Mk V. The last two had 460s. 80 mph road pillows (back when the speed limit was 55 🤣).
I just relived my childhood 💙 Certainly remember going on family road trips , in similar vehicles , when they were late model new cars 🚗 Thanks for taking me along , Dalton
That car brings back so many memories. My folks had a Ford LTD in the 70's/early 80's. It was brown on brown. Almost the color of milk chocolate. During the summer my mom would take all the kids in our neighborhood to the pool. That car had a huge back seat.
25 years ago, I had a 1977 LTD 2-Door, yellow with a brown landau top. Old girl had a 400ci motor with a 3 speed and the best part - she had a working 8 track player. I too had an underhood fire from a bad fuel line. Bought the car for $300. Sold it, 3 years later for $500....win, win.
I'm not able to go on vacation this year so I'm glad you decided to take us. Alone while you and your family injoy yours God bless y'all and pray that you all have a wonderful and safe trip .❤❤
My late dad was a fan of those big Ford cars LTD, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Continental Town Car. They are very comfortable and smooth riding. I remember watching the commercials when a diamond cutter from Tiffany's cut a $50,000 diamond in the back seat.
My mom bought a brand new 1977 Ford LTD, and we set off on a 3 week vacation from Texas to the northeast ( Rhode Island) . I drove most of the 7000 miles with my learners' permit. I was 15 at the time. This car reminds me so much of my youth. I'm 62 now. I loved that old car. It rode like a living room recliner compared to today's vehicles.
I bought a new 95 4x4 Tahoe two door one day & left for Yellowstone the next . (Still the most favorite vehicle I've ever owned) . It was early June & we stayed in Cody Wyo... For 5 days we climbed the Shoshoni mtns into the park and as luck would have it , they had ripped out 10 miles of pavement on top of the mtn where it rained or snowed every day we crossed into the park... My new navy blue tahoe was covered in brown mud to the point you could'nt guess the color... Twice I pulled cars out that were stuck in the mud ... When we got back to Cody , usually long after dark , I would take my brand new Tahoe to the car wash & wash the days mud off.. One night as I was wiping her a down , I looked up & there stood a massive Mule Deer... It walked slowly into the car wash as I snapped photo's with my disposable camera's. I had half a loaf of bread left over from our lunch & I hand fed this massive deer that was starting a new rack , still in velvet.. On our last day driving into the park it turned very cold as we climbed the mtns .. Soon it was snowing so hard you could scarcely see 5 ft ahead... We pulled over & took photo's , threw snowballs , and laughed at this blizzard in June... By the time we pulled into the lodge , there was still 6" of snow on my Tahoe .. Ppl were snapping pictures & asking where we had been to have snow that deep on our vehicle .. I told them & soon learned that entrance was now closed... By the time we left it had reopened , but a foot of snow still lay on the ground... Half way down the mtn there was a restaurant & gift shop where we stopped , ate , and spent $200 on hooded sweat shirts for the 4 of us... I can honestly say it is a treasured memory for me & my family .. My girls are grown & last summer , I loaded my 3 grandsons into a brand new Dodge truck I bought the day before & headed to Yellowstone . I picked them up at DFW airport after their flight from Tenn & off we went .. We stopped along the way & took pics in the same spots we had taken pics with my girls 28 yrs earlier ... Not much had changed really... The Badlands & Mt Rushmore were inspiring as was the Big Horn mtns... Old faithful still spews her steam about every 45 minutes & Old Faithful lodge is still majestic as ever... We saw a grizzly & a pack of wolves in the north of the park & of course many buffalo . Although the sign say stay away from the shaggy's , a young woman decided to "pet" one while her friend took a video.. It charged her , which set the crowd to screaming, as she ran , stumbled & fell.. The pissed buffalo bull , with its tail straight in the air , got to her & luckily stopped.. It gave her a good sniff as she laid in the fetal position , circled her twice , then walked away... My 16 yr old grandson told her it was the dumbest thing he had ever seen & asked if she could read , pointing to a sign that warned of approaching these massive animals (he is a jr bull rider ) to which she said , " yes , I can read & I agree, that was dumb. I've never been so scared".. Ahhh...memories !
Mexican singer Chalino Sanchez playing in the radio was awesome, he was very popular in the early 80's till 1992 when he was killed by the cartels, hearing that music in those cars back in the day was really something, people now days drive fancy suv's and pick up trucks, people back in the days drove big cars and trucks wefe more for work. Super nice car!!!
This took me back. I owned a similar car in the 1980s, and my mother had the station wagon version. Both of them were 1974s with 400/2V engines, so they were running _leaded_ regular. One of my fondest memories was road tripping that barge from Portland Maine to Washington DC. It took forever with the 55 MPH speed limit, because you couldn't reliably get away with going faster than 60-64, especially in CT.
Yea buddy! The State boys in CT were the Hitler Youth back in the day! I remember very well getting several "driver awards" while trucking through that toilet!

Thank you letting us tag along and giving us an opportunity to enjoy the sights, That's a perfect highway cruiser. My parents had a '73 LTD with a 429v we got when it was around two years old. A soundproofed, comfortable highway machine that had enough room in it to haul as many bodies are you could load into it. Gas was not particularly expensive at the time, and that car was not particularly thrifty either. At seven years old, I "helped" pick it out. I wouldn't mind having one right now, in any case :)
These kind of cars were meant to be highway cruisers. The best kinds for long trips. Lots of room , comfy , better AC than todays , dont wear you out driving , do good in adverse weather conditions , hold plenty of luggage and a few road trip tools , and actualy not to bad on fuel. Honestly compare some of the recent vehicle mileage to them and once you see through the Bull , you might just be sshocked. Im jealous you found a New Car basicly. I found found one my Jr. Year in Highschool , low mile 68 4dr Chrysler with 440 , auto everything worked great. Bought cheap , sat low so bought rear spring hangers and raised it a notch or two. That summer did regular maintenance and tune up , plug wires and all that stuff , changed trans filter and fluid . Picked up a friends Mom to take her from Kansas to South of Ft.Worth Dallas area , and stayed a week then they came back to NW Kansas with me. Never missed a lick , drove and ran great , didnt break me buying fuel. Love em All.

Ice formation on the return refrigerant line is a result of low suction pressure, the low fan setting can do that, a slightly LOW refrigerant charge can also do it. High refrigerant charge will not lead to that condition because if anything it will keep the evaporator pressure higher, as designed to operate. However , icing is pretty common on those older systems with thermal expansion valves, they tend to starve the evaporator much of the cycle time. That problem is fixed with the pilot operated absolute valves of that era that were seen on GM products, they had a pilot valve in the evaporator feed control assembly that did not let the evaporator pressures go too low, which promoted icing. Don't sweat the gas mileage, a land yacht, fully loaded, running AC and pushing high speeds with a vintage push rod smog era engine....ya all be doin' good! Just have fun.
I grew up riding in my fare share of these fullsize Fords, Mercury's, and Lincolns from the mid to later 70s. Even friends owning them 20 something years later when we were in our 20s as still everyday drivers. Smooth riding, extremely comfortable, and depending on how you "tuned" them getting outside of pollution calibrations they were a little better on gas but they could run.
I miss road trips in big old cars. My father had a 1980 Oldsmobile 98 Regency and my mother had a 1980 Chevy impala station wagon and we used to see all America practically in those cars.
I found it very interesting that JD was following the trip on an actual paper map. Having lived all over this country in my life, I used to do that with our travels. Now that I'm retired, and living in northwest Montana, your video just reminds me of all those trips, and all those kids who love to ride and explore this great country. You guys are the best.
Man, this takes me back. I am 53. Remember some of the cars my dad brought home in the late 70’s and early 80’s. ‘74 T-bird with red vinyl that sometimes ran. The ‘75 lemon yellow Eldorado that lost a muffler and would overheat regularly. And the actual best one was the ‘78 diamond jubilee edition T-bird with blue velour interior. Not so much in the moment , but times I can laugh about now thinking back on some of our family trips.
This is absolutely one of my favorites. There's always time to fix another project but time spent with that fantastic son of yours and that beautiful lady who is with you is more important than anything else in life . Blessing
My family of 7 drove from MS to the very top of Iowa in one of these . It was a round trip of 1990 miles. Those were the days. No seatbelts, and no room in a floater tank. We drove all the way across Missouri from St. Louis to KC . Went to the awesome Science museum in St. Louis . There’s nothing like a long trip with your family.
I've caught myself binge watching your channel lately. You do what most of us do, make it work. Also, not be too sappy, my dad passed when I was 6. I never got to wrench with him. I really enjoy watching you and JD work together.
Thanks for the memories Dalton. Although maybe I should have skipped this . I so miss my summers at the cabin outside the east gate we use to drive from CT to Laramie for a few days then on to Cody and up to the cabin . Did that for nearly 20 years. I spent one summer working as a wrangler at Pahaska Tee Pee taking tourist on trial rides in the mountains. Probably the best summer of my life , maybe because I had the cabin to stay at and not the room at the back corral with the horses . But either way it's something I'll never forget 😢. We would make up all kinds of stories to tell on the rides . I'm in hundreds of tourists family photos. Oh and I beat up some Amish kid who thought he was a tough guy. Almost forgot about that
On your way home, as soon as you cross back into Nebraska on I80, stop at the little town on the border. It’s north side of the interstate. On the NW corner of town is an old gas station loaded with antique automobilia. It would make great content. It’s called Pine Bluffs I think
Original everything, the seats, the dash, the oil…got the cruise control set to good ole 35 and were sailing down the highway. Yeeha! All kidding aside, seems like a lovely time! Thank you for posting it!
This video reminds me of our childhood car. Our family had a 1973 LTD station wagon that looked just like your LTD in the interior and that long hood. Brought back great memories. Unbelievable that old car made that trip without one issue. I realize it’s a low mileage car… but 45 year old parts are old and just fail. No failures whatsoever !!!
I remember riding in the back seat of my uncle's pale green '76 LTD 4dr HT at night and admiring the beauty of its glowing instrument lights on the dash panel up front. It definitely looked like Command Control Central in front of the driver.
As a fan of the channel who worked in the park for 5 years, it was awesome to watch y'all coming into the park and being blow away. Felt like that every time from every entrance.
That car reminds me of my Grandma and Grandpa's 1978 Ford LTD they bought brand new back then. It was a pretty car for a Ford. Dark Navy blue with a white vinyl top and dark blue interior. It had a 400 in it. My grandpa always liked the big engines. I remember that car for several reasons. After my grandpa passed in 1980, and my grandma took me to go do my driver's test for my drivers license in it in 1982, my grandma continued to drive the car. In about 1984, it needed a new water pump so I picked one up and took it up to grandma's to change it. I think I spent SIX HOURS ON that little job. I had to remove everything from the front of that motor to get to it. The A/C bracket, the power steering bracket, and I don't know what all else. Compared to the four bolts it takes to remove a Chevy small block water pump it was a complete nightmare. In fact, besides a 1986 Ford F-150 a bought a few years later out of necessity (long story for another time), I have never turned a wrench on a Ford for that very reason. She drove it for a few more years and then loaned it to my brother. He wound up getting into an accident and totaled it out. My grandma was inconsolable. It was the last big thing she had that reminded her of my grandpa. Thanks for the content. I enjoyed the video as much as I do watching all of the other stuff you put out. I also subbed to this channel. I had no idea you had a second channel.
Thanks, Dalton. I miss the long road trips. Once drove from Phoenix AZ, non-stop to Cleveland Ohio, 2,195 miles, took 31hrs. Loved every minute need to do it again!!

The most environmentally friendly car is the one that already exists. Making this beast last another 20 years does less damage than buying something new, especially if it comes loaded with rare earth elements that'll need to be replaced two or three times.

Jd holding a tall boy hosing down an ltd like a good ol boy is a forever memory
That is hands down the best classic car deal I have ever seen!!
Enjoy seeing videos of this car out and about driving and taken care of.
JD is quite handy with the camera.
Almost forgot about that
Another day of living vicariously through your videos.
On your way home, as soon as you cross back into Nebraska on I80, stop at the little town on the border. It’s north side of the interstate. On the NW corner of town is an old gas station loaded with antique automobilia. It would make great content. It’s called Pine Bluffs I think
Thanks for taking us along. Reflection of the LTD in the tanker was great!
Original everything, the seats, the dash, the oil…got the cruise control set to good ole 35 and were sailing down the highway. Yeeha!
All kidding aside, seems like a lovely time! Thank you for posting it!
The LTD is a great car. Cant wait for the new project car. Thanks for taking us along
I hope you enjoyed all that construction on I-80... We were through there earlier this month.
Nightmare on the way home
Three weeks ago, I was too, egad!
Such a beautiful car. Takes me back to my childhood. We had a 77 LTD. Great car.
6:25 I didn't know you guys were fans of Chalino Sanchez lol.
My dad had one. I learned to drive in that car. Just floats.
Aside from the poor fuel economy, this is an ideal ride for a long road trip. It's a gorgeous ride!
Thanks to JD for showing us a map…wish there was more of that on TH-cam road trips.
Hell ya! Hope you enjoyed Wyoming brother and we treated you right
This video reminds me of our childhood car.
Enjoy your vacations while you’re young! When you get older you will not feel like the drive. I enjoyed being part of your families vacation ❤️❤️
As a fan of the channel who worked in the park for 5 years, it was awesome to watch y'all coming into the park and being blow away. Felt like that every time from every entrance.
Road sofas like the LTD made road tripping fun and comfortable. Thanks for sharing!
My mom had a 78 LTD. Black 2 door. Man those where some heavy doors. Maroon vinyl interior. Loved that car.
It's the simple things ya know? I LOVE that LTD, such a true classic for the regular guy 🥰
Great old car, that LTD!
i havent been out that way in years. I live in Indiana so its quite a ways for me as well. Also so broke i cant even pay attention this year. Thanks for bringing us along with you and our family. Yet another great upload!
Same here, squeezing the nickel until the Buffalo sh*ts, you ain’t alone.
My grandma had one almost identical. It was yellow though. She gifted it to her house cleaner after a couple years. What a legend.
I will probably never see Yellowstone in person, and thus I truly enjoyed and appreciate seeing it through Dalton’s lens. Kudos to you and family.
The Land Yacht performed admirably on the trip. Thanks for taking us along; we felt like family.
Yellowstone is a magnificent place. I definitely need to get my kids there before they become adults
Thanks for taking me along! 10-12 mpg on the highway. Would be a few short years until the OD transmissions came along and helped that out a little.
Awesome 50 year old Detroit sedan ... brings back many a memory on the highway in the Mountain West in one of these Awesome cruisers 50 years ago.
Happy Birthday Uncle Bob, May there be Many More! God Bless You Sir, You Must be a Hellava Good Fella to have Impressed Upon Dalton to had gotten such Praise. Any Idol of Dalton’s is an Idol of Mine & I ain’t Kiddin’ ! You Keep it Safe Out There Sir
The most environmentally friendly car is the one that already exists. Making this beast last another 20 years does less damage than buying something new, especially if it comes loaded with rare earth elements that'll need to be replaced two or three times.
Awesome car. Glad to see it getting used rather than being stored away.
I remember back in the day we used to cruising them big boats on vacation thank you for the memory 😁♥️
