I set out to find the nicest vintage car I could buy for a reasonable amount of money and found this beautiful, original, ultra-low mileage 1978 Ford LTD! A true little old lady car, and we give it the attention it needs to resume service as a full-time daily driver, plus take it out on the town for a date night!

Ok that’s a nasa/JPL lab/Huston/Huntsville, space race promotional item they gave away in the 70’s & it’s part of the USA/USSR space race, guess it was to help gin up support for funding after we already went to the moon, we were ina recession & manufactured energy crisis, cash was tight so of course they messed up & used a bunch a money to give away a bunch a cheap crap, like that sewing kit, super thin windbreakers, coffee mugs etc, I remember a school event at the auditorium where we all got these space race peechee folders full of junk that all broke walking on the way home
Need a cowboy hat to drive that land yacht.
Were is big Enos at
If all else fails, you can always overprice sell it to Tyler Hoover and we can see it on the dumbest channel on TH-cam. 😂
I love the BIG Fords 😊
As much as I hate ads and creator ads, I’m glad you got a partnership! You are my legitimate favorite channel on TH-cam and I wish you and JD nothing but success so you can keep making these awesome videos!
Yeah I get it for sure. You won't see them very much, I just had to pay for the Holey Goat's engine lol
@@PoleBarnGarage are you talking about the original engine that had 6 quarts of mud and sand instead of oil??!!
@@kurdisshop243the same
@@PoleBarnGarage ads equal $ to do more in the long run. You'll never see me complain!
Mate , suction off something or make a one off shirt of limited numbers or something and we will pay cahs to help!@@PoleBarnGarage
I believe you now own what may very well be the nicest, original LTD on the planet. What a score! I'm totally jealous.
Please keep it under cover - it's the only nice one I've ever seen!
@@RobYeates I was thinking the same thing. This car needs to be in a garage. Even leaving it outside for a winter will start all sorts of bad things to happen.
wrong, there's a 37 mile one in the ford collection...
@@BariLopesh debbie downer
@@BariLopesh , you have to type "wrong" in all caps, or it's not legit.
Man, that's not a used car that's a museum piece. I love the respect and admiration you have for a car as rare as this one. You've got the most stylin' going-to-town rig on YT. Nicely done!
These cars were so popular. There were so many around. Now you never see these cars. I'm glad someone saved this car!
Don’t ever change dalton. Thank you for putting out fantastic content!
This is how we all know your gonna make it man. You got a sponsor. And a healthy sponsor at that. Good for you man.
I've turned down thousands of them, I had some bills to make this month though so is what it is. Won't be many more lol
I sure hope that ol’ gal gets a storage place inside like it’s had, now that it’s in your possession.
Please don't ever change your ways! No matter how big you get on here which I know will happen. You are a one of a kind on the you of tubes..
Never will buddy!
@@PoleBarnGarage Stay grimey my friend...
You hear it all the time...JD is such a blessing. I've watched him grow and excel in his handling of the camera. He finds good shots that add to what you're saying. It's obvious to me that he's more than your son... he's become your friend and confidante. Congratulations, you must be proud.
I thought the same thing. Imagine the stories JD will tell his grandkids about what a character his old man was. Pretty damn cool.
Gotta love this guy, holds the battery in his vette kart with his foot, then buckles up for safety in a land yacht. Keep up the good work my man!
Thanks!
I bought a 76 Olds Omega with 23,000 in 2012, has 40,000 on it now, we just drive it for parades & car shows & the occasional sunday drive. love that you have a great old Time Capsule, Enjoy!
Outstanding video, in fact, better than all other videos on the Internet-unbiased person
Thank you for your kind words, people should also subscribe to your channel to see all the extra content from Pole Barn Garage
@@PoleBarnGarage& @outsidethebarn Such a polite exchange of compliments between completely unrelated strangers, you "two". Surely :) Was waiting the whole video for the obvious "STD"-joke on ye'olde "LTD" but it never came - you're a bigger person than me for resisting it :D
Dalton, as a 73-year-old retired tradesman I enjoy your videos. You've got a good sense of humor. Enjoy your son while he's still young, he's growing up fast buddy. Dave , San Francisco.(I was a tank mechanic on Quang Tri combat base Vietnam when I was 19 years old 1970 maintained all my vehicles the rest of my life)
Hi Dave, Mike from Petaluma here. I also love this channel.
LTD isn't just the model of this yacht- it's a lifestyle.
My old man bought his first LTD in '68 and got a new one every two years. His '78 was the identical colour, inside and out, as this beauty. Your right on the money about lifestyle....this car was the definition of upper middle class.
I've been watching you for quite some time now. I am so jealous of your LTD what a beautiful car. I truly hope you never Let that vehicle go You know that car will last forever. Merry Christmas to you and your family. This is to everyone that reads this. Don't forget to give a thumbs up and leave a comment. This is one man that deserves a full-time TH-cam channel.
"There's not a bit of rust under the roof" is either the most PBG thing I've heard yet, or the best deep cut ever dropped.......like a bowling ball.
Great to see Kevin and Angus dropping by. Enjoy Junkyard Digs as well..
That is a pristine LTD! I'm glad I joined the low-buck club. As Shawn said in the comments I HATE ads, but this is a super nice way to support the channel! And I find your channel to be one of the best. My sense of humor, informative, fun cars!
Yeah, that will be the only ad you'll see for a good long time. I had to write a $7800 check for machine work and parts for the Holey Goat's original engine, and that really hurt 😅 so I figured I'd try to make some of it back this way
@@PoleBarnGarage no problems at all! It's totally fine and understandable once in a while!
I think I just had heart palpitations over that check!
maybe someone can confirm, but on pc you can left click and hold it down on the video itself and it'll play at 2x speed and i don't think it affects anything in regards to our dude getting paid. i also don't think it affects the "most replayed" part either. not that i would notice either way cuz i'm just one dude but it makes sense because even at 2x speed you can understand everything in the ad it just sounds like the part of the radio ad where the dude is busta rhyming all the side effects of whatever drug they're pushing.
i know some advertisers are all up in that "most replayed" to see if people skipped the ad though, i know i would be in their shoes.
@@PoleBarnGaragethe best car in your fleet!!!!
Love it....
Now you need your P1 Freddy project!!!!
May I suggest a 1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxy Skyliner 500?
My grandparents had that same year, champagne with brown vinyl interior. Great road trip car. Floated down the highway 70 mph with engine almost at idle. I thought the trunk release button in the glove compartment was so cool. We were easily impressed back then.
Now get it under cover!!!
Thats an incredible find, I bet Kevin's radar was piqueing hence why he turned up XD
Couple things - Really glad to see Fluid Film get some love. Very underrated product. Love that stuff. Also, in my house we watch all the videos you post so much ( including Outside the Barn content ) that even when my kids saw you cleaned up in a suit - they loved it. Appreciate you, JD, Jess Dad, Cody, and the rest of the crew putting this out there for us. Enjoy the brand new car!
I use the black fluid film on my ford trucks, and it’s amazing
Amsoil MPHD is better
Congratulations on the sponsorship. You have worked your butt off. It is good to see you rising and getting it done.
This car is an amazing example of how cars made back then can stand the test of time but yet those clothes and that stash in that car was simply….. I don’t have words for it bro, I mean fantastic!! Keep up the great work!
We had one just about exactly like that. Rode in and drove that dude many and many a long mile on sales tours, road trips, you name it. What a wonderful car for long journeys.
Wow! Yeah after about five seconds I could tell you bought a 21,000 mile Car. I worked at a Ford dealer in 1977 and cleaned up a lot of new Fords like this one, as well as used ones. Fantastic find! Take care of it and you’ll have a nice daily driver you can count on!
Definitely!
You and Kevin are the only youtubers I care to listen to ads for. Because unlike most youtubers I know it will go towards more projects. 😊
Just skip em lol
In 98 I bought a 73 Chevy Nova 2dr, Custom from the original owner. It had only 60K miles and I paid $500.
I put 100K miles on it and sold it for $3,350 to a neighbors 16 year old kid.
It had factory White bucket seats.
He had it for about a month and had it repainted in Bright Metallic Blue with White racing stripes.
After about another month, he flipped it and totaled it.
I had put Craiger Center Line wheels on it.
It was a Great looking car.
It had an inline 6cyl and a 2spd automatic transmission.
I had also put new springs on it.
Other than that all I did was maintain it.
Kinda funny, I bought a 76 Buick Skylark (Nova) when I was 17 with 60k miles from the original owner. 231v6, spun a bearing 2 years later on my way home after working 2nd shift at the plant 🙄
THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL FORD LTD from 1978.
Lovely old motor! Nice find.
I'm glad you recorded the whole oil change, very intense shots!
Being born in 1971 these are all my father would own when I was a kid. When my older brother was learning how to drive we had a 76 Ltd and he lost control of the car took out an entire front porch and the only damage was the front bumper the roof a little bit and the rear deck lid. I remember the four columns flipping up over the car. My dad traded it in a week later for a 78 Ltd station wagon. I loved it. It was huge ànd had a rear facing seat. I envy you!👍👍
I can only say, YIKES! What a story to have as amazing as any memory ever heard/told!
I use too walk the lots, I remember the one i saw, was medium blue metallic with white top, why, the sticker was $7700. that was back in 78. my parents had the sister Marquis in that year. we made them get fender skirts, that was a $88 option, only nightmare they got it in silver, back then they couldn't match that color. they where floaters. Nice car and I even like the old lady gold metallic. the color seems to have come back,
Grandpa and Grandma took care of this car overall probably just a weekend vehicle by the looks of everything and the last inspection sticker. Now that's nostalgia and classic beauty land yacht for sure. Love y'all
Dalton, Thank you so much for your great videos. They are a great escape from the stresses of life.
Glad you like them!
Totally agree
These land yacht's, if taken care of (admittedly rare, sadly) are amazing cars. Glad you found a diamond in the rough! I like it, it's a beastly reminder of where we were and how well we did it back then! Have fun with it Dalton!
Man this was such a treat to watch... You don't see this often 😊! What a magnificent state shes in
Seeing this makes me wish I kept my old 1979 Thunderbird. Land yacht greatness. This LTD is in unreal shape - such an awesome find.
My hype was well placed. That thing is an absolute beauty. What an incredible find.
We hereby launch the USS LTD. God bless her and all who sail in her.
NGL the oil change was intense and I had concerns about loosing the shop. JD definitely captured the real essence of the events. It's no Jaaag, but the LTD has a certain class to it none the less. I need to check that Fluid Coat out it seems. 👌🏻🤘🏻
We almost didn't make it through that
Thank you, easy calling that car 50 years old (the tires at least) because along with that car, I was born in 78 as well, and I'll have you know I'm 45, sir, not 50! Man I miss my Nana's 75LTD. I'm SO sad.. again. You're the only person in the world who puts up videos of the ONE car I cry about almost every single day.
I love that vintage of Big Ford. The fender skirts. Total malaise era vehicle and so wonderful.
That LTD couldn't have found a better owner. It needs to be cared for and driven. Happy Holidays to all of you!
Great move applying the fluid film. That stuff works great. If you want a thicker film try wool wax or surface shield. I do my vehicles every fall with wool wax and I use fluid film on the bottom of the doors because it's a little bit thinner. Fluid film will also creep for months after you spray it. I live outside Buffalo so it's a must for cars around these parts. Nice car by the way!
My son daily drove a cream puff Chrysler Fifth Avenue with 60K miles on it. It was a good car for him, and we sold it for decent profit last year when he was ready to move on. Land yachts make great daily drivers!
I just love seeing how you and J.D. work together and the fact that he truly thinks you are a awesome father... And you are, and im so happy that you got that kind of son that loves what you´re doing! Its really awesome to see you both sharing the passion, hope he never grows out of that and that he will continue to follow you around all these cars with a camera for years and years to come!
Congrats on that beautiful original boat!
Absolutely the most honest mechanic I've seen, I know it's an oxymoron. Have a good Xmas
Absolutely it is 😂
Glad to see you getting some sponsors! We can rest easy knowing you won't lose the shop anytime soon 😅
Dalton's subscribers are rabidly loyal wrench heads. I'm damn sure if he was in a corner, we'd all chip in $5 to help out, but you're right.....nothing says "My channel is getting traction" like sponsors.
Holy cow... I had a 1980 Ford Granada. That LTD is amazing. What a score.
My God that is the prettiest car I've seen since I bought my 1985 C20 Suburban.
That car looked at home when you and jess went out, The thing owned the road. It makes me sad we dont get such stunning everyday cars anymore.
That car is outstanding! What a daily driver! You are the man.
Dalton 'IS' styling in that luminescent shirt... 'what a man' indeed. or 'Horndog'...
AG1 nerd. Big time TH-camr here! Congrats Dalton on the sponsorship. Whatever it takes for you to keep bringing the great content!
You know Dalton is in love when he breaks out the fender covers! that is a first for this channel!
Sponsorships may come and go, but Low Buck Club is for life. Gorgeous car. I can't believe you found one in such good shape!
Holy crap that is the most preserved land yacht I have ever seen beautiful car
I love that you bought this car to actually drive it like it was intended not let it sit another twenty years that’s a quality unit 😢
WOW!!! What a GREAT find. I've always wondered how many vintage cars have been protected on this level. Enjoy!!!
That is the nicest LTD I have seen in way over 30 years. I always thought they were the best riding cars ever built, and that one is beautiful.
Fluid film is great, only issue is you have to do it every year. But if you live anywhere with salt and you value your vehicle you should "prepare" it for winter anyway and I think getting such coatings on are a must.
Quick job and worth the effort!
The fleet gets fluid film every November buy it by the case. Stuff works
18:20 through 19:00... love the new ACTION version of the channel. You're destined for fame 😂
That caterpillar on your top lip is absolutely stunning. You’ve turned into a real life Ned Flanders
As VGG would say, that really is a going to town rig. Merry Christmas boys. 👍
i think he was making fun of vgg with that oil change rant lol
I love His videos and I also like pole barn videos I like them in there own way. I don’t why they act like they are in competition I watch them both.
"We've got a full tank of gasoline, 50-year-old tires, half a pack of cigarettes... Let's Roll!" -Jake Blues
That beautiful car requires its own garage, something very well protected.
That car deserves a car port. It's so nice.
Easily the best car I've seen you bring home. I'm sure you'll get many good years from that beauty.😊
You have done so well with this channel, you and JD both. Much respect. Definitely my favorite channel, been watching from the start. Will watch until the end. Keep the great content coming👍
Man I love your content. Drive that LTD with pride man. Old school. BOSS. Tony Suprano doesn't have anything on you.
This was one of the original "little old lady drove it church on Sunday" cars that are getting rarer and rarer these days. I think you should treat it the same honestly. Drive the Torino daily and leave the beautiful yacht for weekend drives, when you can find a place to park it!
Dalton please stay the way you are. You are truly a good guy. I like the new ride, and I can tell you do as well. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
OMG! That is a beautiful car you got yourself there
I love it!
... just binge watching... and wow what an awesome find this LTD.... must have been kept inside a temperature controlled garage. All the trim is in perfect condition.. like a time warp
I love that car. Just the most comfortable thing
@@PoleBarnGarage doesn't need much restor for an episode, but would be great to see a "full tune up" episode,,,lol awesome car,,, super jealous ;-]
You and the LTD scrubbed up real good there Dalton and Jess looked a million dollars as usual on your night on the town.
You now have another keeper, that is one sweet ride, well done.
This video was a real pleasure to watch! I have owned many '77-78 LTD/Grand Marquis over the years. Most had the 460 but I had at least one with the 400. Great car!!! Hang on to that cream puff.
Congratulations on the partnership! Glad to see you making progress on TH-cam. You deserve it, keep it up dude💪
And here i put a 327 chevy in a 63 pontiac and people want me burned at the stake! Great show!
I have a 73 Mercury Cougar xr7 that has 78 thousand miles on it. Sadly the original 351 Cleveland blew and they pulled the drivetrain. I got it after it sat in a barn since 1996 and I’m trying to revive a drivetrain from my uncles old 75 ranchero that is long gone so I can bring the cougar back to life.
Yet another top production. What an amazing time capsule, looks glorious. I always know I'm in for a treat when a PBG alert pops up and this was no exception.
Man... So happy for you and your family on this one. You guys deserve it!! God Bless And a Merry Christmas!!
I so want to see you take this on power tour and cruising the coast. This is the best car of them all on those tours.
This is like my aunt's car. She also had a 1970's old Ford LTD with about the same mileage in Newport Beach, CA. 53:08 JD is starting to sound like dad with his wicked sense of humor.
I love the date night attire. That car is freaking gorgeous.
This is an amazing car! And thank you so much for going the extra mile and coating the underide to keep it safe from rust!
I really enjoy your content 🍻 Thank you so much! That LTD is the nicest I have ever seen
Pure Gold!
What a find! Put that thing in a connex box and pull it out when your grandkid gets his license
Great video man, watching you is helping me make it through my first Christmas after losing my mom in March, your silly, funny and educational all in one, happy holidays fella God bless
Sorry for your loss, holidays are always the hardest without family members. Try to have a good Christmas and a healthy, joyful, prosperous and Blessed New Year.
15:57 - Beautiful car. It's driver was a military officer. We had a similar situation in Poland. Military people often had their own Ladas and Volgas, but they were also often entitled to a car with an army chauffeur. Maybe not always majors, but it was true of colonels. It often depended on the officer's function and in what unit. Their private cars were in perfect condition, kept in the garage. All necessary repairs and maintenance for the officer's private car were also performed by soldiers at workshops. And if you are repairing a car for your major or colonel, the person on whom your promotion depends, you want to make sure, you do it right.
in 1993 we drove a 1969 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham around Florida, best time ever, we never got hassled or anything apart from double glazing salesmen.
Well done on the paid add mate I'm over the moon for ya! No way I could drink that shit but I'm happy you get the dosh! Great survivor car mate and I couldn't think of a better owner! Jess is gonna love her new car lol merry Christmas to you JD and Jess and I hope next year is the year you can kick that day job into touch!
Oh I love the LTD entirely, but that's his gal! I got my lil King Cobra and I'm as happy as could be about that :)
@jesswhomakesstuff he spoils you with all the good stuff! Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the turkey! Hope you both have a fantastic life changing 2024!
It's funny folks can't seem to believe these things drive and go as good as they do but all cars back then were big and everywhere and made it to wherever folks wanted to go.
I love the LTD that is awesome. It looks better than me and I was born in 1978!!
I had the good fortune of finding a little old lady that was selling a 1972 Dodge charger(a dear friend of mine big Jim gave me the heads up) it had been sitting in a little apartment complex. It had 63,000 original miles but both quarter panels were dented because she had bad eyesight in her old age. I bought that car for $650 which she thought was ridiculous and I thought it was more than fair, unfortunately it only had 318 in it but with a little love and lots of rubber being replaced it ran pretty good. I had a painted eggplant purple with a little speckles in it at night time it looked black in the daytime. It looked eggplant. It was a pretty cool car, I dropped it for five grand at Carlisle Pennsylvania but I had all of the paperwork. Everything in the car was original. Everything with one exception and alternator had been replaced and I have paperwork to prove it all. I wish that I had kept that car. It would be worth four times as much today it was perfect. No one had ever sat in the backseat ever, the seatbelts were still draped from the factory…… Fuck I was stupid, but I needed the money to move to California of all places we all make our own mistakes…… But I’ve made a good life here so mistakes be bound life goes on. I love your show buddy, I am absolutely sure that if you and I lived within 20 miles of each other, we would be best friends..anywho keep doing what you’re doing. I enjoy it immensely and so do a lot of other people evidently. Thank you and merry Christmas and have a happy new year.
The joke about the tires was the best had me going😂
Hey Dalton, you need to tap the caliper with a rubber hammer to remove air bubbles that could adhere to the walls of the caliper or brake cylinder, while bleeding.
That LTD is classy... when you drive it you have to wear a leather jacket, silk dress shirt, bell bottom jeans and malt beer brown sunglasses..... ya, I dig it man.
They must have had that car wrapped in bubble wrap all these years. Definitely a keeper
The countdown clock made the commercial more visually appealing.
my grandfather would pack the bearing caps with grease to use them as a storage container in case of emergency.
I'm in love with this car. What a gem even with it's 1970's ford problems lol. Drive it and love it my dude.
What a sweet car, almost as sweet as that 70s wardrobe haul!
Sorry I'm late to the party; I was afraid you were going to molest that strangely beautiful old '78. Delighted to see that you fixed her up and loved her. My folks had a '72, pretty much the same car less a few fancies like the Hidden Headlights. Loved: Jess w/ her hair down, the Cool Blue Disco shirt and The Night On The Town. Packing the wheel bearings the RIGHT way, although the gloves surprised me. Attempting a "squeal" from the tires. (LOL! By the time you tuned that 400M to "sort of" quit pinging on acceleration, it was too timing-delayed to get out of it's own way.) OTOH that beast will last as long as you can afford to put gas in it. Oh and one warning to you: the headlight switch on those, as they aged, would develop a nasty habit of dropping ALL the lights at random. The failure was the plastic switch box cracking from heat. I don't think Ford recalled it, but it was a well known issue "back in the day".
