Same. Dalton is like a big brother to JD sometimes besides being an amazing dad to him. I had nothing like this growing up, only discouragement and disdain for anything I was interested in and I wound up being piece of shit to my own little brother. Dalton is such a great dad and his vids pull me through a horrid day a lot of times.
These are known for the valves to get tight when you run em hot. thats all it needed is a valve adjustment.Put a big bore kit on since you have it apart.
In the dump I found a perfectly good Hobo Freight generator with a gas tank full of water. Gave it to a buddy. The 420 engine is now in his Coleman 200 minibike! It RIPS!
#1 rule buying any Chinese vehicles is go over every nut, bolt, screw, clamp, and clip. Saw an engine mount come apart on an Amazon 125 dirt bike and the gas tank and side plate come off on a Lipan street bike. Friend had an axle come apart on a gocart he bought off of Amazon too.
Dalton you’ve done well. I think my parenting skills are much like yours. I’m in charge of large motor skills and teaching them what not to do by example. We’ve had a blast growing up together and my kids are truly awesome individuals that I love to hang out with. JD is clearly on the right path.
Definitely love to see another video of you digging into the blown motor and also finding a new engine for this (go power sports is your best bet. Or harbor freight) and remove the governor items within the engine to make sure it doesn't blow up, and that's what gives you more power.
it would be difficult to get a predator in there. Better off to stick with the same type of engine. Get a lifan 150 and it would be much easier, still have the gears.
One of the first upgrades that should be done upon purchase is adding as large of an oil cooler as possible... These engines are notorious for overheating and they use both air and oil cooling (although limited without an oil cooler) they will cook their own oil in short order without one.
These look like a blast to drive! JD's one lucky kid, I had a hand-me-down (that was hand-me-downed many MANY times, lol) ancient Kohler powered go cart with tiny shopping cart wheels a neighbor gave me when he moved away. It was slow, smoke-y and the most fun a 9 year old could have ever asked for 🥰 I learned a lot about basic mechanics on that POS, so worth it!
Should put a small thermo fan on it, so it keeps the motor a bit cooler. Cool video though and keep up the good work guys. Hello from the upside down land 🇦🇺
Aaaand that's what they call making memories. Ur son will remember all that and other adventures with You the rest of his life. Wish I'd had dad like You when I was kid..😃..
since you can now get whip-its at most gas stations these days you should really thread a hole for a barb fitting into the intake and tube in a whip it dispenser and give this little guy a nitrous boost option. Might as well add a little power since it needs a rebuild anyway
Maybe a front end alignment might help just a thought id be curious if that helps. I bet Jess is waiting at home wondering if she is going to have to come get yall . Such a good lady. I love how you do so much with JD he"ll remember these times.
Probably not, it was all over the road because the front end was barely touching it. Also why it "didn't turn very well" all the weight was in the back of that thing for some reason.
Hiya Dalton and JD, loved this episode, such a nice little vehicle, maybe you could put in a Suzuki GS550E motor, very reliable And its a chain drive! Lotsa love from South Africa.
Well, started cool. To be honest, id swap that chinesium motor for an older flathead twin briggs. Theyre bulletproof As for steering, add some additional weight up front, or wheelie bars in the back. As suggested, go over every nut and bolt before another roadtrip
What a great father son adventure. I could see a future episode of outside the barn where dalton and jd make their own mini jeep using parts from Pontiacs to improve upon the china mini jeep concept.
Those are dead easy engines to swap out for bigger ones. You could get a 140cc and some performance parts for cheap enough. My only recommendation is to launch that carb as far as you can and buy a flanged carb to fit straight onto the intake
That looks a lot like the SYM brand 50CC engine I have in my moped. On your timing set. You'll need to remove the magneto cover and match the marks. Don't use the "F" mark. Then your cam gear needs to match a mark on the head. Set the valve lash at .003in. Check the valves for leaks, might need too lap them.
it is a good practice on mini bikes and go karts and other similar stuff powered by small engines especially from china, to go through and check all of the bolts to make sure they are tight when you first get them i had a coleman mini bike and didnt check all the bolts only to find out that the bolt that holds the centrifugal clutch on was missing by the time i noticed it
Those things are like $3,600 at Tractor Supply. It's sad that you pay that much and the engine isn't even put together properly. I can understand that you might have to go around and check nuts and bolts, to be sure everything is good but the engine should not be in question for that amount of money.
Well now that it's broken maybe fix it like Grind Hard Plumbing Company would. That would make a great build series on this smaller channel, a smaller project.😎👍
After having seen c90 adventures, struggle to keep his mini jeep running, I was quite sure that the trip would not be complete without a break down, but it happened way sooner than I expected :D
Maybe find a small electric fan to help cool the engine, or maybe just remove the front grill? You're probably asking a bit much of that little engine's cooling fins. 😂
Great edit JD, maybe a little lower on the music volume. But that’s it. Your doing great. My 9 year old daughter says holy crap what is that? I said that’s a piston honey. That’s the last time I saw her today so far…. Couldn’t god have thrown me a boy too? Awesome vid guys. Love the father son combo…
I am not defending the cheap chinesium jeep but there are a couple things id like to say. 1. I do believe those need the oil changed before use. The one i saw had a note in the owners manual about the oil in it only being a preventative lubricant for shipping and it needed to be replaced before use. 2. The steering geometry is very poor and as the front suspension is compressed the the tires toe is. The front shocks are adjustable but id recommend aligning it with the weight of the driver and passenger in the jeep. 3. The carb swap could possible not have been jetting properly causing a lean condition. Which caused excessive heat. 4. Regardless its still over priced chinese junk but my son has had a couple of the cheap chinese quads which have nearly indenticle motors and he beats the crap out of them and they keep on ticking. The wiring sucks and a nut bolt check is required every season but i am actually pleased with the level of abuse his 125 and 250 have endured.
It always cracks me up that JD seems to be the more mature, sensible one. Y'all had fun at least, gasket it and blow it up again I guess? I guess it's not just Chinese "Breaks" that break.
Softer springs on the front would help that wander but it’s still a Chinese mini jeep not sure if it’s worth the work ,would be cool to see the lil one do a upgrade series on it
from what i seen on a another video about the jeep driving really far this thing really needs a cooling fan in the front and a bigger engine (like 150cc) and a relocation of the gas tank. the video is Will the mini jeep make it to Moab. but yeah i would stick a cheep cooling fan in the front.
For once I had something similar, although not in a mini jeep, but a small dirt bike, same style of engine. If they run (well) they're strong and fast, but as soon as the chinesium melts it's over and you can basically scrap it. This can take 10 years before it happens though, they're quite reliable, just don't stress them too much! 😂
It sounds like your carburetor is not jetted right and also those things are really sensitive after they break in you will need to adjust the valves regularly
No kidding. I work at a place that sells all these Chinese units and we go top to bottom on everything with locktite and torque shit down. Shit still comes loose
Swap it out with a small V twin john deer mower engine, the added weight will help with the steering issue, already have good gearing, engine comes with a mini alternator so you could put a small Chinesium fan for cooling with a temp sensor. Also just like every jeep ever made it ends up on a trailer in the end lol 😅😆😂
Nevermind finished video,, get the headgaset and tune the carb!! The aftermarket carb probably ran it lean. Maybe ran the rings flat and lost enough compression, or could have got the valves warm enough to get the tolerances off. Do a compression check and then check valves. Maybe move the needle height on the carb slide up to give more fuel. May also need a rejet. Read thr plug to find out.
You have to watch how this kid cambered the front tires to help with steering and there's another Chanel that the guys did some simple upgrades and they made their's pretty good for the road.
Reminds me of the first one of those Chinese bicycle engine kits I put together. That little 2-smoke literally shook itself apart, and the hardware was so crap that it snapped 2 of the studs holding the jug leading to a loss of compression and being stranded. First time it did that, I was 5-6 miles from home, if I had tools with me someone mighta found that engine in their garbage can because pedaling the bike any distance is no fun with that thing in the frame. 2nd one of those bikes went much better with all the hard learned lessons of the first one, was a good time for 15 year old me. The engine in that mini-jeep is the same little Honda clone you'll find in most of the chinese ATVs and smaller bikes. They usually aren't too bad, better carb and they run pretty reliably in my experience. Never had a problem with the studs on those but if it had 1 back off like that I'd be suspicious of them all being stretched, probably a defect, I'd see about replacing all of them when you put it back together.
If anyone reads this and haven't seen the c90 Adventures videos taking one of these across the west, you should.
