On the 3rd lap of bringing the thread through the machine, there’s a series of pressure plates that the thread goes through. My question is, does the thread go through the front or back of that middle plate? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look into it, you’ll see plates I’m talking about. Someone on the internet mentioned that this controlled tension, and that it was important to get this part of threading your machine correct, but he didn’t mention if it was supposed to be ran in front or behind the middle plate.
Do you mean when you pull the thread up through a sort of looper (lever) and then bring in down again in that same slot? If so, I never had to be concerned about the thread going in front of or in back of the looper. The rare times that the thread didn't fall in to place properly, I knew because the stitching would be off and I just re-threaded the machine. This was a very good machine but I no longer have it or the manuals for it.
Deb now u're really giving me an inferiority complex. U're so modest with all your achievements and talents. I've always had a passion for fashion but can't sew to save my life lol! I did try.
Sister Deb, That is a beautiful sewing machine (the words just "sewing machine" doesn't do it justice.) Many blessings to you dear heart. Thank you for sharing. ~ Sister Lynn
I loved seeing this, Deb! I have an older Brother sewing machine that I have used for years. It's a faithful old thing but it doesn't have the threader. That's so neat!! Talk to you soon! xxoo
Thanks, Jeanie! Hope you're having a good day!! We're having a light rain every now & then here and it's supposed to rain like this all afternoon. Take care!!!
Hello I was on TH-cam looking for tutorial on using my Designer I. I bought it second hand a few years ago as my Viking Rose broke also second hand. I am so happy to find you and hope that I can get some great advise and tutorial from you. Other than some straight sewing I have not used it for anything else yet I do have all the embrodery attachments. Now that I have a designated craftroom/sewing room I am using it so much more and want to learn all about it. Hope to touch base with you. Have a great day
Hi there! Weeeellll, I actually just recently sold my machine and everything that went with it which included all of the original software, hoops, instruction manuals for everything, and even some thread. I just didn't use it and with that machine you need to use it or the motherboard goes bad. My machine was very lightly used so the person buying it did get a good deal and I know that she is putting it to good use. As far as help with your machine, did you not get any instruction manuals with it? I think you can still go to the Husqvarna website and download the manual there. And on Facebook there was a site for Designer 1 owners. Good luck! It's a beautiful machine!!
Hi Deb, thanks so much for this video. I have a Husqvarna Viking Designer 1, I don’t use it for embroidery, just plain old sewing😎, I would like to programme a series of decorative stitches for a sleeve on a top I’m making. Could you please demo how to programme a series of different stitches and how to delete the ones that seem to ‘stay’ after turning off the machine? Again, it really is great to see someone like yourself show these tips on such an old machine 😊 Stay safe and well! Kindest regards Jacqueline Quinn
Hi Jacqueline! I'm afraid I no longer have my Designer 1 machine. I bought it brand new, used it for over 15 years and sold it about 6 months ago. It is still going strong but for someone else. You might be able to find tutorials on TH-cam or there is a Designer 1 group on Facebook where you might be able to find the assistance you want. Good Luck!
I no longer have this machine but I do remember that I had to replace the bobbin winder on it at least one time. Is it the little piece that holds your bobbin on the winder that won't release? You can just pry it open. I also had an issue with thread winding around the spool of the winder. I just sliced through the thread to get it off the spindle. Hope this helps.
Hi Deb. I just acquired a used Designer 1. I love the machine but am having extreme difficulty with the tension. The bobbin thread comes through to the top no matter how I seem to adjust the tension. Can u help me? Thank u so much.
Hi Cynthia! Do you have the owner's manual for the machine? That booklet is a lot of help. If not, you might be able to download a copy online. Has the machine had a recent tune-up? The Designer 1 is a beautiful machine. I no longer have mine; I sold it a couple of months ago to someone who needed a good machine and is using it to its full potential. Anyway, adjusting the bobbin tension is tricky. There's a small screw on the bobbin case that you need to turn a little bit at a time, sew and check your stitch, adjust a little more if necessary until the stitch tension is the way you want it. That's because you said the stitch is loose on the top. Upper thread tension is normally around 4.5 (that's the default tension setting). I don't know if this helps you or not. Otherwise, there are groups on Facebook specifically for the Viking Designer 1 machine. You could join one of them and get more information when needed.
I think I’m one of the only students that literally almost flunked sewing. I ended up passing because I think the teacher felt sorry for me. If you gave me 1000 bucks I couldn’t that threaded. 😀
If you're talking about high school sewing classes -- well, they were the worst!! I didn't like sewing then; I couldn't sew very well at all! We had a quarter of sewing in Home Ec (I don't even know if they have such a class anymore) and we made an apron (to be used later in our cooking class quarter) and a pair of pajamas. I still remember all the problems I had sewing them both and do you know how many years ago that was??? -- MANY! LOLOLOLOL...Have a good one!!!
Thanks for sharing. I forgot how. Now I have a Husqvarna Epic 2
Very much needed, appreciate it ❤
Thank you! I'm so glad that my video helped you with your machine. Happy Sewing!

I was just given a designer 1 to borrow, thank you for this
It is a very good, sturdy machine. I never used it to its full capacity which was entirely my fault.
Deb now u're really giving me an inferiority complex.
U're so modest with all your achievements and talents.
I've always had a passion for fashion but can't sew to save my life lol! I did try.
I do my best sewing when I'm in a class setting with a group of people. Honestly!
Thanks so very much!!! You just saved me a LOT of frustration!
I'm glad to hear my little video helped you out!

I've been sewing masks this summer and this saved me since I'm super new to sewing- thank you!
I'm glad my little video helped you out! Thanks for watching!!

Hi Deb, Enjoyed.... I don’t sew....but I wish I did. I just never learned how. We have to take all of our mending to a semester.
Sometimes, I have to do that, too.
