So, a lady in the neighborhood had me do this job for her. I am very impressed with the work you did getting this kit together and the biggest help was the drawn diagram. I will see if I botched the job tomorrow when I have her test the machine. Getting the machine apart was actually harder than getting it back together. The machine that I worked on required a #10 torx driver and a #25 Torx driver for the screws that I had to remove. Others might find this information handy.
So, the owner came by, and I had swapped two cables for the switch panels on the area above the presser foot. I swapped them and it took off fine. It is easier to remove the back panel if you loosen all the screws that hold the bottom support to the machine body first before attempting to remove the back panel. Be advised that the hinges for the front top door will be a PITA for you as you go along. If you don't remove that swinging cover you will be ahead. It holds those swivel pieces in place.
Thanks for video. I was asked to look at a friend's machine and they had the flashing light symptoms. Following your lead I went in and checked all the capacitors on the power supply and main board. In my case the power supply was perfectly fine (note this is a 24V DC power supply for those that might test it) but I found several caps on the main board that were not fully failed but were out of spec by quite a bit. Replace the 6 caps on the main board and the machine powers on just fine now. Will let her test it and make sure but it's at least better off than it was. Appreciate the video and thanks for the guidance.
I have same problem. I replace most of the capacitor and now its OK. Thanks for the help. The repair shop i contacted wanted to change the board for $950 (a rebuild board), plus repair time plus taxes. I think i saved $1500
Hector Guerra video was much more helpful. He included list of parts and where everything goes and 1.5 hr work work to get a dead machine fix was great. I did find you video first before I fine his video.
Excellent video. I have the same machine but the USB quite sowing the content of the USB stick. It acknowledges the stick is there but does not show what is on the stick. The files are in the correct format (VP3). Should and can the ports be replaced?
Hello, in your video (Husqvarna Viking Designer SE Flashing Light of Death Repair) you show repair putty in the minute 5.20 what you need. But on your link to the etsy sale I can't find these parts included. I ordered this putty but I'm not sure?
I got the kit and successfully fixed my wife's Designer SE. Thanks for the video! Is capacitor failure as common on other brands & models? I have a friend with a dead Brother PR600-2 6 needle embroidery machine. The circuit boards for that machine have been discontinued too. Is it worth trying the cap replacement there as well?
I had this problem, ordered the kit, repaired and machine came right on!!! Only problem now is all my function keys aren't working. No lights and buttons are non responsive. I checked connections they are all plugged correctly
Excellent timing, I am about to have some kits on eBay for this machine. I'll make s blog post on my website when they are available. Probably in about a week. Otherwise, you can go to mouser to get the components you need.
could you tell me more about the mosfet and the diodes you replaced as well? preparing to run this on a machine and would like to get as much done while the thing is wide open
Have you ever done any board repair on a Platinum 750? I have one that is essentially new, but when you first turn it on and press the foot pedal you get a couple of slow motion needle strokes, and then it sews normally. Does it every time when you first start it up.
I packed my Designer SE back into its shipping box and put it onto the shelf for several years. It was working fine when I packed it away, with very few hours (less than 100) of on time. Just unboxed it and plugged it in. It’s doing the flashing lights like the machine in this video about 60% of the time when I turn it on. Is it possible the capacitors went bad when the machine was boxed up or is it possibly something else? Thanks for any advice you can offer
Most likely only one is bad. It is not easy to determine which one without pulling them off. At that point just replace them all. Also, capacitors do go bad over time. Take a look at the vintage computer community. It is common to "re-cap" older computer boards.
I have my flip top lid drop its hinge screw (s) and now the flat arm of hinge down inside. I want to open up machine back cover to retrieve and replace wish your video went slower, but my question is , once inside there is there any area of which needs any oiling or greasing before I close it up or do I just dust n vacuum and call it a day ?
I have the Designer SE Viking and the flashing lights have occurred. i am looking for the kit you indicate you have and so far have not found them. Please let me know how to find them and the cost.
I have a Viking Ruby, and today in the middle of doing an embroidery, it just stopped and powered itself off and then back on again. In trying to figure out why it was doing this, I discovered that if the speed of embroidery OR sewing mode was more than the slowest speed, the machine would power off and back on again. Do you think this could also be due to faulty capacitors? Thanks for any help you can provide!!!
Cool video! I'm about to buy one of these embroidery machines for $800 with all the accessories and rolling case. About 520 hours on it. Do you think that's a good deal?
My Designer SE suddenly stopped embroidering, The Husqvarna dealer told me it couldn’t be repaired, I’m assuming because the parts come from China aren’t available. Is this true or can you give me hope? Otherwise it sews fine.
My machine keeps stopping and saying the thread is broken but it is not. I push the 'ok' button and it will sew a few stitches and stop again with the same message. Otherwise it sews perfectly. What's up with that? Thanks. When I remove all thread and run the machine unthreaded, I get no error message. only when it is threaded.
so, when it flickers like that, what is the actual problem? what parts are you actually replacing? in the video it looks like you are replacing the whole insides. Please clarify. This is sad..In order to fix the problem you have to solder things? could it be just needing a new power supply cord?
Hi, it sound like you know what your talking about with these machines. So by chance do you know how to fix this problem I have with my 20 year old Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 embroidery/sewing machine. I had it in you spare room for 2 years and now I go to use it and sewing part works, but the embroidery part tells me I have the wrong hoop attached to the arm. I know I have the right hoop as the floppy I am using is one given me when I purchased the machine. Thank You for any help :)
Can you help me. I have a Husqvarna 1 designer sewing machine. had some one to replace or repair the monitor for me. Know my usb does not work. Mandy😢 England
My wife’s machine died , I don’t know if the lights were flashing. we sent it to a repair shop they say it needs a motor and a PC board we’re looking at $850 for repairs. I can solder the capacitors in but I’m not sure that’s going to fix her machine. Any suggestions?
I have a se hukavarna and when I put it away because I got the diamond and I tried my se after a long time and it did not work the lights were flicking and I took it to be repaired and was told it needed a mother board after saying fix it I was told there was nothing he could do it could not be fix and to him it is old and I don’t know what to do?
I have taken my Designer SE to 3 different sewing machine repair places and they all told me they couldn't fix it because the boards aren't available. Taking it apart is way my above my abilities so I was wondering if you know of anyone in the Tampa Bay area that could do this for me. Aside from finding someone locally-do you actually do these repairs for people and if so, how much would you charge? I hate to trash this wonderful machine-please help!
I am having the same problem with my Designer SE-flashing light etc. Repairmen say it’s a ‘motherboard’ but maybe is ‘capacitor’. I need help with finding a dealer in the Akron/Canton Ohio area.
help! i did the replacement and machine now finally turns on without any blinking lights BUT the actual motor doesnt work now. when i attempt to sew the foot goes down but nothing happens. do we know which capacitor is for the motor specifically?
My Designer 1 was shipped back to me, it was perfect before that, now the machine comes on, needle just runs up and down, won't stop has an error message "replace bobbin winder machine will calibrate" I just can't figure out what to do and none of my push buttons work, lights are on though PLEASE HELP

I got a new motor for my Designer 1 and that wasn't the problem, I turned the machine on and the needle starts moving up and down furiously fast and can't stop with pressing any of the buttons, HELP

I order the capacitors from you, and replaced them, and guess what? It's fixed!!!!!! Thanks!!!!
Awesome, great job!
Another Designer SE repaired thanks to your instructions, and capacitor kit

Wow, awesome! Great job, and $950 is ridiculous.
I just completed this exercise / Great video / Great advice / Great guy for showing it/ Not difficult even for me at 76 and it worked as specified.
About to start ripping mine apart. Wish me luck!
Done! Fixed it. Your videos are awesome! Thank you for the kit and walk through!
Hector Guerra video was much more helpful. He included list of parts and where everything goes and 1.5 hr work work to get a dead machine fix was great. I did find you video first before I fine his video.
Thanks for the feedback, funny enough, I have a follow-up video coming soon. It will show more detail, probably still not better than his, though.
Thankyou for this video an you tell me why my viking ruby says overheat? I barely use it.
Excellent video. I have the same machine but the USB quite sowing the content of the USB stick. It acknowledges the stick is there but does not show what is on the stick. The files are in the correct format (VP3). Should and can the ports be replaced?

Huqvarna Onyx 25 have metal frame ?
Hi Hector, can you please show me how to fix the cutter on the Viking SE. I would greatly appreciate it.
I had this problem, ordered the kit, repaired and machine came right on!!! Only problem now is all my function keys aren't working. No lights and buttons are non responsive. I checked connections they are all plugged correctly
Excellent video. Do
you have a recommended parts list and the name of your parts source?

Yes, absolutely. The chemicals degrade over time, whether it is used or not
Sewing Machine Repair Guy thanks! I’m looking forward to fixing it myself. Please let me know if you have a parts/spec list available.
Check out my website in the video description. I have a blog post that will help.

Are you still selling the capacitor replacement kits? I don't see your listing any longer on ebay.
what causes all 12 capacitors to expire at once on hundreds of machines only 12 years old? Will it happen again once they are replaced?

@@SewingMachineRepairGuy ya, this is a problem with vintage radios as well

What causes my Viking Diamond to just shut off in the middle of sewing out a design?

Replacing all the capacitors on the board and power supply. A new power cord will not fix this problem.

I was never able to find one that worked. I think you have to be a factory trained tech to get it.
Didn’t learn much🤣🤣 didn’t show us on how to fix this
