This was the last game I played with my friend back in October of 2011, I was 11 then. I am now 20 yrs old, and he has not been online since then. Really sad.
I had a friend like this, we played halo on legendary, the entire ODST campaign too, then he never came back on, his name was II rook II, It’s been atleast a year and a half,I wish he would come back just one more time…
I swear, ODST probably did more important jobs than the spartans behind the scenes, excluding John 117... They took out key locations, supported assaults. Probably did some black-op stuff against their own UNSC members who were being kinda sketch. Similar to spartans, but these dudes weren't wearing armor like the cost of a corvette or a frigate. They didn't get shields, they just got slightly better augmentations than your average-joe, and better armor.
There's a reason why the Covies call ODST Marines "Imps". With their visor-covered faces just like the Spartans, and being a major threat to Covenant infantry just like the Spartans. Smaller, slower, and more of them, just as Imps are compared to Demons. But even an Imp can still kick in some teeth. ODST for life!
@Mr Anderson Until the Spartans IIIs came into the picture, yes. But at least they didn't send ODSTs on pure suicide missions unless there weren't any other options. Unfortunately, the IIIs didn't get that luxury, and as such, they should be honored as much as any other.
That for me is part of what hits hard about Reach. That despite having all those soldiers, ODSTs and Spartans the covenant kept coming and eventually won the fight. I would LOVE a game about all the ODST missions that happened during the fall of Reach so bad. Sadly unlikely to ever happen but damn. A man can dream
@@mrb6088I could imagine it switching perspectives between different squads combatting the Covenant across the planet, losing members until the few survivors inevitably meet up in the last survivable parts of Reach. Of course, everyone knows how it'd end. There's no escaping Reach. I could see the final part of a cutscene being that climactic moment when Six fires the MAC. Anyone for dozens of Kilometers around could've seen the Autumn lift off.
Thank you for this my GF passed away and she was a big Halo fan and I still am this reminds me to morn her but there is a fight still going on and I need to fight for her
I imagine Rookie as someone who had a traumatic childhood. I’ve learned a ton about Phycology and myself in the past few years and your early life experiences shape the way you see the world later on. Emotional trauma disconnects you from yourself, it’s one of the most painful things someone can deal with, but also can lead to finding your most true self in recovery. Trauma doesn’t even have to be some obvious form of abuse to do serious damage. Rookie dealt with intense emotional pain in social interactions. Early in life his mother had to give him up, and he still wasn’t properly cared for. And as a result his view of the world was that he expected the worst from everyone. He had a very difficult time connecting with people, and always felt like no one could understand him. Eventually, later in life he gave up on speaking to other people, because it brought up intense pain in him. He felt more content just to be silent. Because of the intense emotions building up inside him he needed a outlet, so he became a ODST. Life was already extremely hard for him so the training was nothing. His training instructors got mad at him for not speaking, but were so impressed by his performance that they let him pass. He was intensely focused. Even through emotional trauma feels terrible, it can bring the best out in people. And rookie poured all his frustration into fighting, his critical approach to everything gave him the upper hand. As time went on, he became content with who he was. Instead of connecting with people he connected with his environments. He knew he was always going to be silent. He became the observer and began to feel his way through everything. This attention to detail meant that he was extremely efficient and perceptive. That’s why you see him noticing everything left behind by his squad. Rookie felt everything intensely, and put his soul into fighting off the covenant. That’s what made him one of the best.
I honestly feel a little like the Rookie, alone, sad and has no one to help me. I was so hurt and broken down that I can hardly talk to anyone unless I knew them, but that is so rare now,I'm 17 and my life is tough. I will always miss the Rookie. I'm a little bit like him.
Everyone I love has bitterly disappointed me to the point that I can’t bear to connect with other people anymore. They’re all despicable degenerates with blood on their hands…
It's less impressive when Spartans do the things they do because you know they have genetic enhancements and cybernetic implants along with a super suit of armor with a shield generator built into it. ODSTs have training, a suit of armor, and their squad. That's it, and they're still expected to do the same job as Spartans.
I dont really think, it's less Impressive when Spartans accomplish impressive feats of strength. Yes, Spartans have Augmentations, that dominates almost any battlefield they're in. But keep in mind that they also undergo training since birth, they are able to accomplish these feats partially because of that. They are trained extensively in multiple fields of combat. So in my opinion Spartans and ODST are both an incredibly impressive and formidable Force against the Covenant
The Fall of Noble Team you may have a point. The Master Chief is the second most impressive character in the Halo universe with a track record greater than anything else in the lore besides Sergeant Johnson.;
@@moderatorentity8627 Spartans have the expectation that they will accomplish great things as a Spartan. ODSTs are normal people like you and I but they are held to more or less the same standard. ODSTs, in my own personal opinion, are far more impressive and formidable.
Minor correction. 1: John-117, Sergeant Avery Johnson, Thel 'Vadam (because there were many, many Arbiters and many, many people hold the rank of "Master Chief Petty Officer") 2: ODST personnel 3: UNSC Marines 4: Spartan 2s and 3s Reasoning: Spartans have the best training, best gear, best support networks. Marines have, in comparison, the worst gear and the worst training. ODSTs have the worst deployments and the worst support networks, and are often surrounded when they land. Yet the successes ODSTs achieve during the first 'Golden Hour' of an operation often have a disproportionate impact on the operation as a whole. The Marines are the backbone and primary fighting force of the UNSC, and they're just regular men and women. TL;DR: ODSTs and Marines make do with less, but are just as vital as Spartans, if not more.
*Putes UNSC Marines as Number one cause they had to fight knowingly impossible odds with no hope but still kept fighting* *Shoves civvies like Sadie as number 2 because despite everything, people like her tried to make a difference in some way despite being just a civilian.* Badassery is guaged by courage when facing impossible odds..

I also wish for someone🥺 can totally feel the rookie, at night, alone, worried, but still gotta make it through, and an unexpected ally like Virgil, carefully guiding the rookie through the city, to me thats all the stoics, through their knowledge in books guiding me, at night, alone, worried, on my bed while trying to sleep🖤 but you got this bro, remember, we ODSTs are the crème de la crème
This song always makes me pour out my life, lay it out to see in it's entirety. My life has been terrible, always climbing only to fall inches away from the peak. I try and try, getting tossed and bashed, over and over. Repeating mistakes and making changes to counteract them. Somehow I'm still going, whether it's because of friends or a hopeful change in the future, I'm pushing forward. But how much more do I have to lose before things get better? I'm running on fumes...just gotta keep telling myself: "Keep on, keeping on. It's just another rain."
For us, the storm has passed. The war is over. And let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark, and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure. Sacrifice, an unshakeable conviction that their fight... our fight... was elsewhere. As we start to rebuild, this hillside will remain barren, a memorial to heroes fallen. They enobled all of us, and they shall not be forgotten.
I really like the idea of you being a marine, with your whole 50 man/woman platoon, you learn a bit about them, then they start dying and you learn more about the survivors and get closer to them, then they start dying too, on and on until it's just you left. You become a spartan 4, and you have one possesion, a photo of your platoon.
Hearing Halo music always makes me think of my dad because we always play Halo with eachother. Johnson reminds me of my dad because of his personality. When he sadly dies, I’ll always remember him from halo, the badass dad I always played with.
It's been a while. My friend died a long time ago, he used to come over and play ODST and Reach with me. We always had each other's backs, and we always had one line prepared after beating the missions. We yelled Sparta. My mom got mad at us, but we still loved playing. May his soul rest with God, and even if he went to hell, may hell keep that brave soul. He was an amazing guy, and he told me once, that if he died, I continue his dream of making the Spartan armor and the ODST group. I wont lie, I thought it was dumb back then, but hey, I've grown a bit and I see it's possible. Long may he rest, my friend Peter.
Playing this game alone on school nights letting the darkness of my bedroom envelop me was such an immersive experience. There's an overwhelming sense of vulnerable loneliness evinced from the atmosphere of Rookie's levels. Waking up to dusk, light quickly waning because fate has knocked you off your course, stranded and forlorn in a blackening city where death has become ubiquitous, struggling just to regain your bearings as time clenches you tighter in its fist; there are parallels to be drawn to the perils of adulthood. I've carried this loneliness with me but its cathartic to return to Marty's music and feel that noir influenced sense of self-reliance flooding back. And to know in reality you're not alone in your journey, you're just following the clues back to your team.
TBF Deference for Darkness is already really depressing, the whole goddamn soundtrack for the Mombasa Streets mission is all about loneliness but man this is worse
Despite all the years I’ve spent alone, feeling like I never had anyone there for me when I needed them most, Halo opened up so many doors and gave me years of life experience that I wouldn’t change for the world. Stay strong everyone, and I’ll see you starside!!
We will never forget Odst. It was so down to earth, so close to our hearts. RIP Rookie... Whenever I hear that thunder, I smile knowing you're on that PT run.
I've been seeing stories of people who had loved ones who played ODST or halo in general... and lost then to a horrible tragedy. I say, keep your head up soldier. You have a fight to finish. They would've wanted to push on and keep it going. As so many people in this section have said. Spartans don't die. Their just missing in action.
“You know, you’ve fought well, buddy. Shame to see you go… you can chew me out on the other side. I’ll keep fighting for you, always” -the ODST in the image, according to me
The Spartans may have saved humanity, but without the ODSTs and the other forces of humanity, they would never have had the chance. Props especially to the shield less UNSC navy who did well despite the covenant.
Reading these comments has opened me up to a new level of sadness. I want everyone that uses this song to cope that I may not truly feel your pain but you are not alone in your struggle there are others with you.

my very first time playing ODST, I played the entire game in one shot, and finished when the sun came up and I had to go to work in the morning with Buck saying "what can I say, It's been a hell of a night"
bruh just lost my grandpa and brother from cancer... this was the LAST EVER GAME we played together before my brother died, plus im choppin up onions not crying at all Miss u my grandpa n brother.
Bucky got down onto his knees as his voice crackled with pain, his eyes began to swell up with loss. “Hey Rookie, remember me pal? I just came back up here to talk with you a final time before the rest of the team get off this hell hole. I still can’t believe you won’t be coming with us, but hopefully wherever you are there aren’t any covenant with you, I wanted to apologize, I’m sorry I couldn’t save you. You were like a brother to me, I’ll make sure to keep your memories alive, I promise you, also remember, if you find a chick where you’re at, make sure she’s got balls.” Bucky stood up while sniffing a bit, he turned off his visor and began to walk away clinching the grip to his SMG.
This kinda tells a meaning on the battlefield that nobody will have a proper funeral as they won't die peaceful around people, only those small few would honor them while nobody else cares, It fits well the picture and song given that theme of a loss of friend or loved one that stand beside you all this time Intel now, that bond was shot down.
I know most people would cry when listening to the song, but this only echoes the emptiness within me. It's been a very painful year; I had to put my cat to sleep a week after my birthday, and roughly a month later I had a falling out with someone I love, with a good chance being that I won't see either of them ever again. I would cry, but I've run dry of tears.
I’m so sorry…I truly am. Believe it or not, I actually made this when I was in a pretty bad place myself and to see so many stories from what a video game meant to these people and to those they’ve lost, it breaks my heart. But to you and those that are going through a pretty rough time in their lives, just know that it does eventually get better and that you’re not alone. I promise.
@@threadyocean thank you sir. I appreciate it. And you know, despite all of that, deep down I'm still hoping I'll see them again someday. Who knows? God bless you sir

They somehow completed halo 2 on legendary and i can barely do it on regular cause im just that bad. Everytime i play halo, i think about the fun times they had and how i enjoyed watching them play. But thats over now, my father still has me to play Halo with but its just not the same for him. He barely wants to, he is usually busy or just contemplating on something.
I remember when I first went into foster care, my favorite thing to do was to go on long walks that took hours on end; waking up at 4 in the morning for school and taking the empty train 'til I got there. There's something peaceful about exploring the world while everyone sleeps, then eventually it just becomes lonely. The walks, even if in the middle of the day, in a crowd of stranger, I hate that I can't speak to them and while everyone sleeps, I'm still just here. It's like being a ghost. I remember I did the same thing during lunch at school, just wander and walk and eventually, hope that someone would walk with me. No one ever did. Today, I still find the night to be home and sometimes struggle to stay up during the day, and god I wish I just had someone to talk to, to bounce off their energy and keep going. I want to find someone to make the day seem welcoming again. Even if it's only when they're around, I can handle the rest as long as they exist. Maybe this is my rock, the intangible hope of hope: personified. {I am okay, I Promise}
The Damn Feels! To those who Lost Loved Ones, this Song's for you. And to the Rookie who never got a chance at a Life of Peace. Let's all Raise a Glass, in Memory of those who we lost, to the Good Times of ODST, we Salute you all, and we pay respects to them and the Rookie.
Personally I loved Reach a lot. It was the first halo game I played, and I like having both shield and a health bar as well as having the armor abilities to mix up the gameplay a bit. That being said, I REALLY liked ODST, the music and atmosphere was stunning, I loved the whole squad, the story was good, and all around it was a great experience.
"Helljumper, Helljumper, where have you been? Feet first into Hell and back again!" -last words uttered before the drop into Newhaven, site of the infamous Pod Massacre and the death of over five hundred ODST personnel
This song brings back memories of all my friends who are no longer here with me. The ones who died young, and the ones who went down separate paths from myself. All the hours spent playing Halo and CoD games together as a big group… just dust in the wind now. “For those who who had traveled into the howling dark, and did not return.” Kev, Drake, Clark, Tim, Ron, Toby, Ed, Quint, Jack, Jeff, Allen, Cooper, Carlton, Diego, Gonzo, Walker, Flint… I miss you guys…
This was the only Halo title I've owned. The swelling of the stringed instruments around 0:51 will always be ingrained in my mind; of the atmosphere this game masterfully made.

They ended up going where Spartans couldn't be spared to go
@Mr Anderson Until the Spartans IIIs came into the picture, yes.
That background and the music hits hard. No lie.

Sorry for your loss! My condolences! May God rest her soul!
Would he beat buck in a one on one ?
I honestly feel a little like the Rookie, alone, sad and has no one to help me. I was so hurt and broken down that I can hardly talk to anyone unless I knew them, but that is so rare now,I'm 17 and my life is tough. I will always miss the Rookie. I'm a little bit like him.
Literally me
Everyone I love has bitterly disappointed me to the point that I can’t bear to connect with other people anymore. They’re all despicable degenerates with blood on their hands…
It's even more sad that he died with that intense trauma.
The Fall of Noble Team you may have a point.
The Master Chief is the second most impressive character in the Halo universe with a track record greater than anything else in the lore besides Sergeant Johnson.;
@@moderatorentity8627 Spartans have the expectation that they will accomplish great things as a Spartan. ODSTs are normal people like you and I but they are held to more or less the same standard. ODSTs, in my own personal opinion, are far more impressive and formidable.
Its Okay Rookie, the War is almost done, your sacrifice won’t be in vain, Godspeed, old friend
Rest In Peace rookie

Rest in Peace, Rookie. It was an honour serving with you.
The pain why
Levels of badassery in the halo universe
1: Master chief Sgt Johnson The arbiter
2: All Spartan 2s and 3s
3: The ODSTs
4: UNSC Marines
Minor correction.
1: John-117, Sergeant Avery Johnson, Thel 'Vadam (because there were many, many Arbiters and many, many people hold the rank of "Master Chief Petty Officer")
2: ODST personnel
3: UNSC Marines
4: Spartan 2s and 3s
Reasoning: Spartans have the best training, best gear, best support networks.
*Putes UNSC Marines as Number one cause they had to fight knowingly impossible odds with no hope but still kept fighting*
*Shoves civvies like Sadie as number 2 because despite everything, people like her tried to make a difference in some way despite being just a civilian.*
Badassery is guaged by courage when facing impossible odds..

*Edit:* To whoever is asking or who doesn't know, Rookie's death is canon. The man died trying to fend off an insurgency...
My thoughts exactly when making this video.
It hits harder knowing that mickey killed him
Well he didn’t pull the trigger per say but yeah he set up the ambush and caused him to get captured and then executed so yeah Mickey killed him.

Playing ODST as a kid was my favorite, I related a lot to the main character on how Alone he was but he was strong and never gave up
ODST's knowing that their mission is to delay the scarab for 27 seconds and that they will have a 100% fatality rate.
Halo 3 ODST is one of the most important game in my life because that is where i spend time playing because i love the soundtrack. Sometimes i wish i have someone or at least a girlfriend to talk to when I'm in sad and depressing times like this. Thank you for uploading this. Really gives me nostalgia.
My pleasure! I actually made this when I was in a pretty bad place so it feels good to know that uploading this has helped others as it helped me.

I understand exactly how you feel and I want you to know that you nor anyone else in the comment section is alone. ❤️
I've felt the same way you have man, hope you get through
you know what chief always says. shoot your way out
Same. That's pretty rough man. I'm with you.
**changes pitch**
“ah yes, sadness”
I really like the idea of you being a marine, with your whole 50 man/woman platoon, you learn a bit about them, then they start dying and you learn more about the survivors and get closer to them, then they start dying too, on and on until it's just you left. You become a spartan 4, and you have one possesion, a photo of your platoon.
Not a good feeling
“Hero’s never die there just missing in action”
RIP Halo 3 : ODST, Halo 3, Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Halo 4 and Halo : CE Anniversary servers.

Oh god, you moved all the octaves down a entire key or so. You evil person. I love you.
TBF Deference for Darkness is already really depressing, the whole goddamn soundtrack for the Mombasa Streets mission is all about loneliness

The Spartans may have saved humanity, but without the ODSTs and the other forces of humanity, they would never have had the chance. Props especially to the shield less UNSC navy who did well despite the covenant.

You were like a brother to me, I’ll make sure to keep your memories alive, I promise you, also remember, if you find a chick where you’re at, make sure she’s got balls.”
Bucky stood up while sniffing a bit, he turned off his visor and began to walk away clinching the grip to his SMG.
Who knows?

They somehow completed halo 2 on legendary and i can barely do it on regular cause im just that bad. Everytime i play halo, i think about the fun times they had and how i enjoyed watching them play. But thats over now, my father still has me to play Halo with but its just not the same for him. He barely wants to, he is usually busy or just contemplating on something.
My favorite halo game was odst and man its just a real deep feeling whenever i hear this song….
Best OST in all of Halo
I remember when I first went into foster care, my favorite thing to do was to go on long walks that took hours on end; waking up at 4 in the morning for school and taking the empty train 'til I got there. There's something peaceful about exploring the world while everyone sleeps, then eventually it just becomes lonely. The walks, even if in the middle of the day, in a crowd of stranger, I hate that I can't speak to them and while everyone sleeps, I'm still just here. It's like being a ghost. I remember I did the same thing during lunch at school, just wander and walk and eventually, hope that someone would walk with me. No one ever did. Today, I still find the night to be home and sometimes struggle to stay up during the day, and god I wish I just had someone to talk to, to bounce off their energy and keep going. I want to find someone to make the day seem welcoming again. Even if it's only when they're around, I can handle the rest as long as they exist. Maybe this is my rock, the intangible hope of hope: personified.
{I am okay, I Promise}
