That's the thing the original Halo games got. The human element. In Halo 2 you fight with the Marines, Navy, and ODSTs against the aliens throughout multiple chapters of the campaign. They're mostly faceless but we know their faces. That's what made the game so well done. You felt the companionship and the "we're in this together"
They also had names. Each of the marine models had names to them like Chips, Bisenti, Perez, Mendoza, Stacker, Johnson, and so on. They also appeared in cutscenes and did stuff. 343 doesn’t utilize normal marines in their stories and it sucks. The only one they really used in the main plot was Echo 216, but he was another melodramatic character that spent more time freaking out than actually contributing to the story. We don’t have a chain of command like we did with Lord Hood, Jacob and Miranda Keyes, Johnson, Captain Cutter, Sgt. Forge, or the Alpha Nine ODST squad. Halo hasn’t felt like a military shooter since Halo Reach. Halo 4 had a chain of command, except they were melodrama babies who screamed whenever things didn’t go their way. Del Rio will always be a stain on 343’s resume for working against the interests of humanity in a series where humanity was united by hope and determination.

It's so tragic and beautiful. This memory of a golden age we all shared. One that seems further and further away each day. But when you sit in a dark room, with the rain pouring outside and play this. For a second. It feels like you're back home.
Life is what you make it, if you enjoyed these times, make them happen again. But something I realised was it was never really the game, it was the people I shared it with that made it good. I still love the game, this one especially, and the soundtrack is second to none, but the game feels more lonely when I play it now compared to when I was younger, and I think that's because my friends aren't popping online at the same time as I'm playing it.
During Covid when everything got shutdown cause of the Quarantine one Time I went outside at night while it was raining I was playing this song in my headphones and some of the ODST tracks too.
