Think about it, the covenant wouldn't leave alone this four guys stranded on a roof and lost a whole bunch of banshees and brutes, maybe a few phantoms too. They even needed to bring in a chieftain to stop them.
To be fair they had MANY anti vehicle weaponry. And IF any troops did make onto the platform, their reinforcements were VERY unlikely to show up so that also lowered their assets. Not tryna down play the ODSTs but yeah this was in the favor of the shock troopers
@LigityLigit I think the OP's point is the Covenant wasted a lot of resources. If I had to come up with a reason why, I'd guess that a company of Covenant recon noticed a team of ODSTs holding on to one specific roof with everything they had. The Covenant commander might have guessed there was something important under that roof. They probably thought they were taking an action that they'd get a commendation for. In a larger battle that was already a foregone conclusion, they probably felt safe taking on the ODSTs. After they lost the first squad they sent in, I guess the sunk cost fallacy set in. Maybe they thought it would be easier to cover up the cause of their excessive losses if they just finished off the ODSTs.
