You are AMAZING, Nate! I am 70 years old and continue to learn from your videos! This is exactly what I have been searching for! Thank you for the continued assistance and education!
Nate just got my Chester cheetah with 4x4 memo waveform all I can say is WOW . Went from 20 down 3 up now 130 down to 20 up well worth the money if it weren't for you I still would be slow riding . Thanks for your information keep the videos coming . MERRY CHRISMAS!!!!!.
Some positive feedback for you and others: Great info on the Cheetah modem router and Waveform 4x4 panel antenna. I'm 7 miles from T-mobile tower (with a view of the top of tower). Purchased the Waveform 4x4 to use on the Nokia trashcan, worked well for several months (consistant 300 down and 30 up). Then one day speed dropped to I.5 meg on upload only for 3 weeks, download stayed the same speeds. Note: the bands stayed the same as before N41 and B2 T-moble had just announced that N25 was operational (B2 when the UL speed dropped, Humm! Could not get the Nokia to change bands (only 1 T-mobile tower in my rural area that close to me). Replace the Nokia with a Chestertech Cheetah and now back up and better. For the last month speeds are 300-500 dl and 30-40 ul consistant on N41 and N25. Thank you for helping me get better internet service in our rural area Steve (and thanks again)!
I started with T-Mobile on the little white 4g box. Then the Nokia. Now the Arcadian for at least a year. Well I’ve been having dropouts i think its about time this thing is retired. Think I’m gonna get a cheetah, i should expect 200+ down and 50+ up, and I’m 3 miles from town, surrounded by trees and farmland.
I'm exactly 1 mile from a T mobile tower and their modem is hot garbage. Coming from 400 dl and 50 ul on Comcast to barely being able to watch a video is crazy. Glad I found this video, time to make some changes. Thanks for your input, it helped me make my decision.
Just got my router! Went from 20 Down 10up to 162 Down and 65up. Pretty nice upgrades. I am on SA. I am about 1.22miles away with bunch of trees in the way. I don't have my antenna tuned properly yet due to the winter. But I'm hoping I can see a bigger improvement in the summer when I can adjust the 4x4 waveform antenna. I only have an extended range 5g tower in my area. So I am guessing that's why I don't get 5g NSA. Thanks for all these videos. Helps us rural people get good internet!
It's pricey to upgrade to this. I have starlink and get about 400 down on a good day. But it's also way more expensive monthly. I got a 25 dollars a month plan during Christmas. And man it's worth it now.
Just got mine yesterday and I tried just plugging in the sim and it didn't work, only after re-watching the video did I get the subtext that you have change you IMEI to match the old device. Great content I wish that was more clearly stated but I get why for legal reasons that you probably didn't outright say it. Thanks for the tips
@@jonathanpotts3591 my Arcadian unit keeps finding itself stuck in bootloops and the RMA unit does the same... debating just getting this then, better customization than the Arcadian too... Love the service, just wish T-Mobile was better at their in-house device building and quality assurance
Nate we have been on T-Mobile for the last two months. Was unaware of the minimal things you could do on the Arcadian gateway until after I got connected. We live in a rural area so internet isn’t readily available. I’ve been a subscriber since having the gateway. Thanks for this info bud.
Nater can you adjust packet size with this device or is that managed via another router downstream? Just wondering how it matches up with TMobile and their lower packet size.
Got this on Monday and my Speedtest results are 3x faster than a prior device! Thank you. The Wi-Fi range is better but I still want to add mesh. I see a screen shows a “Mesh+” logo and there is a mesh button. Do you know what mesh units will work directly with this unit?
I love it you pretty much told everything how to use a tmobile home internet sim without telling people hint "IMEI repair" 🤣There is another device i have been using in my RV fulltime traveling with dual sim and imei repair also through AT commands. Been using with tmobile home internet and Firstnet(AT&T) its the cellular routers made by a company called Cudy there are very affordable and have all the same features as this one.
I need your help how did you get your cudy to work with your tmobile please help am having hard time changing the imei which u used or should i usee the gateway one came with t-mobile please help
lol you caught that too... I'm looking through his notes and then watched video going uh where does he clone the IMEI and then ooooh.. 'repair' :D :D :D
Thank you. I was able to go from zero cell service (T-Mobile) to 25mb down using the Chester Cheetah and Waveform 4x4 at my off-grid location in Kentucky. I didn't spend too much time testing and researching so perhaps I can do a little better. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for EVERYTHING!!!! I'm thinking about getting one of these Chester devices, just not happy with the internal antennae in my Tmobile gateway and I don't want to risk "damaging" and getting charged for a replacement. Going to research this more tonight and probably order one of these. I'll run it alongside my current gateway for a month or so to prove it out before sending my gateway back.
Have been running the Chester gateway on T mobile home internet for several days now. As I have stated before, at my location the best result so for is configured for 5G-SA, with PCC on n41 and SCC on n25. For past two days, I have noticed at about 6 pm, n25 will became PCC and n41 became SCC, my speed would be down to 25 down and 2 up with 170 or so for the ping. I can going to Chester and turn n25 off then back on, it would switch PCC back to n41, and my speed will again back to 400+ down and 10 up with 40 ping time again. Not sure what could cause that except losing n41 momentary. Unless Chester gateway still does not immune from T mobile de-prioritization. I am currently waiting for Waveform 4x4 panel to see if that would further stabilize the band locking. Just to share my encounters.
Love you Nate! I’ve learned so much from you that I’m now boringly over qualified compared to the people that work at TMobile and Verizon 😂 I signed up and tried both of them. Got the Arcadian router from T-Mobile, and it was just 2 weeks ago, and even though I’m in their 5g ultra wideband service, it only got 25down and 25up average. I never saw more than 45 down. Cancelling that and a magenta max phone line (ordered at the same time because they told me where the tower was and I can see it blinking at me from 1/2 mile away) was an absolute nightmare. I will never try TMobile again because of how awful everything got as soon as I said “I want to cancel”. Everything before that was fantastic though…. So the Verizon 5g box has been unbelievably consistent at 320down and 20up (same tower 1/2 mile away) and I love it! I am so sorry for the long rant, but my question is about the Verizon gateway 😂 so my gateway is the ASK-NCQ1338FA. I’ve only ever heard you mention the NCQ1338 gateway…. Is there even a difference? Verizon’s website says there is? For a second time I’ll say my question is really whether or not this gateway is able to have MIMO antennas hooked onto it? Do you have any insider info on whether this thing, the “FA” version is any different than the normal Askey? Thanks again Tater, love ya buddy!
Hey Curtis, thanks for tuning in! I'm glad the Verizon setup is working well for you. The FA appears to have some minor differences and I think the main one of note (especially as it relates to this video) is that the FA version has an eSIM and not the physical nano SIM located on the bottom of the gateway under the silicone flap and under a little screw cover. Maybe you can verify that for me! My understanding is the FA still has the same lack of ability to add an external antenna. HOWEVER with your situation if you are good with where the gateway is located and only are interested in faster speeds than current....don't do anything. I haven't seen anything in writing but the Verizon home internet on c-band appears to be throttled around that 320/20Mbps so adding an antenna wont help since you already get the "max" speeds.
@@NaterTater thanks for the reply, I gotcha, no way to use the Mimo antenna then? I’ve learned more about WiFi than I’ve cared to, but your channel has been an excellent source of information.
I would like to see a side to side comparison with one of T-Mobile gateways in terms of signal strength and quality. Both units in the same place, both without extra antennas.
Just like to pass some info with those using Chester router, with recent firmware (1.9.4) update, by properly enable the IPv6 stack, the latency on my 5G-SA has decreased by 50%, now my down is averaged around 450, and upload around 30, and ping at 20 or so. As IPv4 only setting, my ping averaged at 40.
@@timmturner yes. By using band locking, you will be stay on the 5G band. You may still see some speed fluctuations but will be relatively in small ranges as it is a wireless connectivity nature.
I don't see anyone asking but what are the Ethernet port options on this or should one plan on a separate device for lan ports Edit: sorry I rewatched and see two Ethernet ports
Thanks Nater Tater. I've got a KVD21in a rural area that has weak but usable signal on N71. I can get 40 down and 20 up a lot of the time. Been like this since December now in July the 5G band is dropping a lot. I was going to get a Waveform 4X4 MIMO but after seeing this I'm wondering getting this Chester device since it has external antenna. I know the external antenna would be better but that comes with some difficult installation issues for me. Have you done any comparisons between the KVD21 internal antenna and the Chesters?
Yes, th-cam.com/video/TeyMAGqRaSI/w-d-xo.html the Chester is often much faster due to band locking ability and more carrier aggregation. And easy to add external antennas if needed.
I have used this router for more than 1 month now, I bought it a few days after having obtained the tmobile internet service and they gave me the seagmcom router when they activated the service, after only 2 days of testing with the seagmcom I was very annoyed with the router although the internet was fast there were times when it did not give me data and I had to restart the seagmcom, after looking for options I found this router some people recommended the new rm520 modem that was capable of CA 5G bands, It didn't take me long to get it to my house after ordering it and make the necessary configurations so it will work correctly before inserting the Sim. Compare both routers in the same place where I had the fastest and most stable connection, with the seagmcom it had a maximum between 280 to 320 mb of speed then I moved the sim to the other router, I placed it in the same place and boom a maximum of 300 to 360 mb, honestly I expected more but I remembered about SA mode where the router is capable of CA ( Carrier Aggregation ) 5G, so I switched to SA mode and found out why this modem is great! I managed to reach up to 505mb of download although the upload only reached 10mb but for the use that I give it it is much better, after adjusting the auto restart ,I no longer had problems with my connection although I programmed it to do it every day 4 a.m. So far in the time that I have been using it I have not had problems like I had with seagmcom, something that I loved about this router is the band lock ability, it helps me a lot since lte band 71 destabilizes my connection, now just uncheck that band and it works much better on NSA mode, if I only want to use band 41 and 25 on SA mode then I only leave those options marked, it has the ttl options for those who use other plans like cell phone or tablet plan and need to modify ttl , I would love to have an easier option to see the bands I'm connected to but it's not complicated since i know the command. So far I am very satisfied with the router and with the customer service that they have provided me, they helped me immediately with the doubts that I had about my tmobile home internet plan, about what changes I had to make to avoid having problems, the necessary commands to know the signal and settings for a better connection. PD: for my connection to work better, I use the band lock and I only mark the bands that I plan to use, for example, if I use NSA mode, I know that it will combine lte and 5G bands, so I select band 2 and 66 in lte and only in 5G I select 41, which is the fastest in my area and save in both, if I am going to use it in SA mode, which is when I want to download big things like video game updates, I only select band 41 and 25 in 5G and save or also if I prefer band 71 instead of 25 so I select only 41 and 71 and ready to save
Hey Nate, love the videos. I have a question: I have the T-Mobile Arcadyan router. When it’s inside behind a window I get 5mbps lte. If I put it on the other side of the window on my porch I get 160mbps and 5G. Is there an antenna that would have a smaller form factor than the waveform 4x4? I’m not sure I need something that substantial with the speeds I am getting from having it outside. Thanks in advance for any insight!
I am very pleased with the Mediatek one but there is a chance the Qualcomm outperforms it. However that is always the case with technology, waiting gets you better but at the expense of having it now!
Thank you again for another informative video. I just placed order of the Cheetah and could wait to see the improvement. I will post the result and question may have when I get it. Thanks again.
Hi Nate, what is the benefit if there is one to having T-mobile business internet vs home internet? Would it get better prioritization on the network if one has business internet? And would it be easier to get Chester modem up and running with business sim?
Business does not get any different priority than home internet but it does allow you to BYOB (bring your own device) so it is easier to use the Chester Cheetah. You also have the option for $3/mo to get a static IP address with the business plan. You might notice some streaming tv issues with business and if so you just call them to tell them to unblock those services (done by default for business).
Have you ever tested the Cudy P5 5G router 4x4 MIMO before? I have T-Mobile 5G home internet so I’ve been looking at the Cudy along with the Chester router and would like to know which one do you think is better. Thanks
Qestion, I have a t-mobile G4SE. I have this on a boat. When traveling outside the USA to the Bahamas. Is it possible to buy the local sim card and use it in this device???
Nate, Important basic question. Can the Chester RM520N-GL be put into a "modem only" mode? (IE, bye-pass routing). I'm evaluating t-mobile service/equipment. Impressed with speed/performance in my area (780/120MB, reasonable ping times) but must use with my external router and can not use with t-mobile equipment (can not have double NAT, using VLANS and local server that needs external access). Considering Chester only if it can be put into a modem only mode to integrate with current setup. Thanks for your research and information.
Tmobile has CGNAT so you're automatically double NAT on IPV4 and also dont have a static public IPv4 address to be able to access your LAN from the internet. Tmobile business 5g can give you a static IP as can using a VPN service to tunnel thru. But the Chester device does not currently have a full modem only setting.
Which video has the information on showing what bands I'm on? Using Chester's modem. I watched it once. I need to find it again. I'm going to play with the bands but I need to see what I'm connected to.
I didnt catch the whole show live. basic question, can this just be used as a modem? I'm using a unifi dream machine se router. I'd like to use this an a modem only mode with t-mobile and allow my unifi gear to do all the routing. Also, Did i miss any speed testing? You said its better but can you quantify?
I was getting 2x the download speed vs a KVD21 due to the ability to aggregate multiple bands. as you know exact speeds for you depend on many things. example is i was getting 222mbps down on the Chester unit and 110mbps on the kvd21. Big speed test comparison is coming.
Nate I have a T-Mobile NOK 5G21 Gateway Kit, will the SIM card from this T-Mobile Router work with Chester Modem? If so will it need to be reconfigured or work out of the box?
@tolust I haven't forgotten about you. you can use the DMZ setting on the chester router to send all the internet packets "unfiltered' (ie no firewall) to your router and then you can disable wifi radios to get to a dumbed down router. Not a full modem only but for many it will achieve the desired affect. A video may be coming but I have a huge backlog of them to get thru!
Stupid question but if you use a tmobile home internet sim in the chester cheetah device, you can no longer use the tmobile app to get information correct?
Thanks for all the great content on your channel, Nate! I am trying to get my parents setup with better internet at the rural home. I am taking the Waveform 4x4 MIMO and the Chester gateway with me. I will be picking up a T-Mobile sim card for them to activate on their account. Will I also need to have them get the T-Mobile gateway so I can "fix the corrupt IMEI"? I am confused as to if they have to double pay for a separate T-Mobile line for the new sim card as well as the monthly fee of having the T-Mobile gateway (which won't be used since I'll have the Chester)?
Hi Nate, just found this. Can I use any sim card from a t-mobile phone or do I need to subscribe to the t-mobile home internet and use the sim from a sagecomm?
So to be sure I'm understanding this tutorial correctly, Will my original t- mobile gateway "sim card" work in this chester? Or do I need to upgrade to the business plan? I would like to just order the Chester and put my sim card in without the hassle of going in to t mobile and getting a new business sim plan
Will this work with Televes 130990 Evoka antenna to broadcast T-mobile 5g signal? Interested in the Cheetah for Wi-Fi/5G router/modem combo broadcasting Xfinity Wi-Fi and 5G signal from Televes
Nate your thumbnail says unlocked & Not Business Does that mean this router does not work the same for Tmobile Business Internet, as you show for home internet?
Nate, I have a similar modem/router purchased from Suncomm called the O1. Looks like it runs the same firmware. Did you do any particular commands or setup etc to get the router working with T-mobile? Or did yours work by simply putting the SIM card in and possibly setting APN. I’m on the struggle bus to keep mine staying connected without constantly rebooting. Thanks.
if its boot looping that's not due to APN or SIM settings. Might want to contact your seller or you can see if Chester can help you out chestertechrepairs@gmail.com
@@NaterTater when I said rebooting I meant the modem loses connection, then reestablishes connection repeatedly. Seems to be some sort of authentication issue.
@@NaterTater not that either. I figured it out, the modem in this particular router needs to have IPv6 completely turned off. Including the IPv6 radio button next to IPv6 Setting. I’m going to trouble shoot it further. Interesting honestly…. Maybe I have a bugged firmware.
This looks like an all around better device and far more affordable than the Peplink.... Question - will a DNS change actually take with this device ? i have heard TMO will not allow traffic onto any other DNS. Have you tested this ? by the way.... Your content is always worthwhile. Big fan out here in Western Oregon!
If T-Mobile switched my home internet account to business and I don’t necessarily need it and it’s the same price for me. Should I keep it or switch back to regular? Originally I switched to business to have static ip for Hulu live. Turned out the router was wrong one and still wouldn’t static ip so I ended up canceling Hulu tv. I have the tmo g4se and it’s less than reasonable speeds. Frequently loads to stream even one device or changes quality of picture showing poor speeds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Nater
question i have the sdx55 the v1 modem and wifi calling sometimes doesnt work with tmobile home internet do you know the at commands to fix that issue?
If I plan to use a regular T-Mobile data SIM card (not a T-Mobile Home Internet SIM card) is that still throttled by CGNAT? And couldn't the TTL setting be configured to essentially "mask" that data line to be used for data only (like a cell phone) and not hotspot data?
Hi Brad, I'm not all about Peplink. They have some great business level management features and speed bonding/seemless failover but they tend to be a bit behind on 5G. The only Peplink I tested that showed competitive 5G sub-6 speed was Max BR1 5g Pro. The MoFi also underperformed. The fastest was Chester Cheetah but it does lack some of the advanced business features (but has band locking, tower locking and other neat features).
Great speeds! Interesting on wifi, I didnt notice that during standalone testing but I typically have my gateways hooked up to my Asus AiMesh setup for wifi coverage.
@@socalfishing3121 yes, it should accept any SMA wifi antenna. Is 2.4ghz not traveling far either? Have you checked the wifi settings to make sure nothing is amiss?
So I didn't see for sure in the video, when I plug my tmobile home internet card into this device, will it work, are there specific settings I have to change in the device to make it work or does it automatically work with the T-Mobile home internet?
You will need to revise the imei on this new device before installing the Sim it should match same numbers as your tmobile home internet device, then just install Sim and apn set to auto and ipv4/ipv6 Done!! That's what I did and it has been working fine
mr natertater, in process of buying this unit ,i have t mobile do you recommend this router interweb box?im wooded and going to purhase the 4x4 wave outdoor antenna, i get 2 cell phone bar now,my t mobile box goes from morning 17mpbs down by nite to 2mbps. i have att phone dsl 6 mbps. i need this upgrade to work lol ,what do you think?
great video Nate! What gains over the Arcadyan KVD21 are you seeing? RSRQ, RSRP and SINR better? Debating on 4x4 MIMO External Antenna vs Chester CAT19-RM520N-GL
2x download improvement. Its not just RSRQ (a function of RSRP/SINR) but the fact that it can aggregate more bands and do 5G SA. Speed tests to come. And antennas.
Hey Nate, thanks for the great work you are doing! I work remotely from home as a radiologist and live in a semi-rural area where there is not wired broadband yet. I have to connect my workstation to the hospital I work for via an IPSEC VPN tunnel. There is a hardware device at both ends that creates this tunnel. It does not require a static IP address, but does need to establish this type of tunnel. I'm currently using a fixed wireless ISP in my area for internet, but it has been pretty unreliable. Recently I got the T-Mobile home internet for my household needs. It has performed pretty well with just the Sagemcom gateway and my home MESH wifi network. However, when I hooked up my work equipment to the T-Mobile device, it would not create the VPN tunnel. I'm told that I can't do that on the T-Mobile home internet. Is that a limitation of the Sagemcom gateway or the T-Mobile tower/network? I'm wondering the Chester device you reviewed in this video would allow me to get that tunnel built over the T-Mobile connection. I guess I would have to get a business account to get a SIM card for the Chester device.
Hi Daniel, IPSEC VPN is one of the harder things to get to work. SSL VPN's are mostly all working now on TMHI. Do you have your VPN device plug into the Sagemcom directly or into your mesh system? Try both if you haven't. Also if your mesh system has an IPv6 passthrough enable it. There's a few more things to try but let me know about these.
@@NaterTater Thanks Nate. Yes, I connected my VPN device directly to the Sagemcom device and it didn't work. I did not try to do it over my Mesh system. I'm quite sure that wouldn't have worked.
@Daniel Fullmer you might be able to host your own VPN on your mesh system and have your work VPN hooked to that. Your work IPSEC VPN would effectively go thru your personal SSL VPN to get out of the tmobile network constraints. It would slow things down but if you're just doing it to access charts/images and need it for HIPPA then that shouldnt matter. It might not work well for live video conferencing.
Nate, I hate to bother you with such a simple question but I have the Tmoble 4G lite grey moden/router and no matter where I put it in my home I still can't get a decent enough signal to get even 20mpbs download speeds, when I first got it, I was getting around 25-30mpbs but now I can barely get 5-10mpbs if I am lucky. I bought a signal booster with a yagi antenna and I could lock onto a tower and get 50mpbs download and my uploads skyrocketed to around 20mpbs but after a few minutes it wouldn't stay locked on and I lost all signal. I receive multiple warnings from my online bank account, etc. almost every day that someone is logging onto my account from a different location and IP address and so I investigated and found that Tmobile was logging me in from all these different locations so I called Tmobile about this and they claim that is is their standard practice to use the best antenna location at the time so it will vary but I don't buy that BS, especially since I now have practically no signal and can't seem to get my antenna set on a tower. I just ordered an omnidirectionl antenna since it seems to me that Tmobile is somehow piggybacking off other towers or something fishy. My antenna mast is 25 feet high which should have been more than sufficient for me to get a good lock on a Tmobile tower but I find these tower maps a bit hard to read but I do at least get the gist of it and can see which are emitting my band for Tmobile and where they are. I guess I am asking what is the best thing for me to do since I have already spend a few hundred dollars not to mention the monthly Tmobile fee. Actually, counting the mast, I have spent about $1,000 and a lot of work for no results. Can you give me any advice ? Am I doing something wrong or is it Tmobile sticking it to me? I would change to Verizon immediately (Verizon towers everywhere around me) but their top package is $100/month with I think a 5G data cap which is no good for me cause I work from home on the internet. Please give me some advice. I know you are super busy but I am desperate.
T-mobile does move your public IP around so that is what confuses your online bank. You should try a 3rd party 5g router. Or Verizon's 5G Home internet plan is $50/mo, delivers 300/20mbps of unlimited data.
not much, there are no settings you can change! you can turn off the wifi to help some. But the best bet is to get a different modem if you want advanced features.
@@NaterTater I have the business modem without a static IP right now still running parallel to my current ISP with Google mesh network. Can I simply plug the Google mesh main router into the T-Mobile unit without having to worry about the double net... or do I need to get setup with static IP?
Thanks Nate. I had a 4 LTE sim router on TM using old (no longer available) ONE Plan + $20 per month International plan to stream internet unlimited since 2018. I want the same unlimited streaming and was wondering if you know if the Magenta Max would give me unlimited streaming or would you suggest staying with ONE + International plan?? I got the Chester last week and the ONE Plan + International works fine on 5G. I was getting 25 down and now getting 140 down!!
I love you videos nate, but I'm still confused about these routers. You directed me to this video from another video I had questions about. With that said, there are company's making these routers for 5g service that use sim cards that cell companies don't allow on third party devices? I understand that there are loop holes with Verizon (Watching your other videos), but I don't want to do anything ilegal. if it is not legal to insert a sim card in these devices, is there an adaptor for the sim card that can keep it outside of the device but still be plugged into it? Or, am I wrong and these are totaly legal?
I'm not a lawyer so I can't provide legal advice, my opinion is nothing I show is illegal. There are aspects that are against the terms of service for some plans. Both Verizon and t-mobile have plans designed for "bring your own device" aka BYOD. They often cost more or have data usage or speed limitations that the home internet plans do not have. I dont know of a sim adapter to keep the sim physically outside of the unit. Great idea though!
@@NaterTater How are you obtaining a SIM for your devices? Is your service throttled or do you have data limitations? What is your advice on how a noob like me should get service for their own device? Thanks again for your responses.
I'm torn. I consistently get around 250-300Mbps from T-Mobile with the Arcadian. But the best I can get from Verizon is around 45 Mbps. They confirmed I'm not in their 'high speed" area. My sons runs a Minecraft Server for his friends, but of course, the T-Mobile makes that not possible since you can't seem to do DDNS. Any recommendations? I requested their business sales people call me but haven't heard anything.

Great Video. So I have the T-Mobile home Arcadia Edition. So you're telling me if I order this Chester router my Arcadia home internet SIM card will work in it?
Just has Chester gateway installed. Based on my location with T Mobile gateway on B66 and N41, I left Chester band locking configuration as default. The qcainfo returned as PCC on n41 and SCC on n25. I didn’t see and 4G band listed. I am not an expert on those, my question is did any 4G band has been also aggregated? For the reference, my download speed is consistent at 400+ and download at below 15. With T Mobile KVD21, my daytime download would be around 200 for the best, upload around 20. So, my guess would be Chester gateway will no longer on lower priority, but not really aggregate on LTE band which hurts the upload? Not sure if my understanding is correct. Really appreciated if Nater can offer some knowledgeable inside and suggestion for further improvement. Thanks.
@@NaterTater I followed your Ultimate Speed Test video and played around with NSA and different band locking, it still come back with Auto default being the best. In my area, I don’t have strong signal and only available bands are b2, b66, n41 and n71. So, by SA with n41 as primary and n25 as secondary, I can pull down around 450 now. Although suffer a little bit on uploads, but it is not a major concern to me. At least, compare to KVD21, my best day time was around 200 and best night time was 350 or so, the result of Chester is pretty good. Will keep playing and let it run for couple days to see if there is any other issues. Thanks Shain for all the information.
Looks like your setup and situation is close to what I see on my KVD21. 4x4 Mimo antenna I get 150 to 180 down ping 40 on speed test but 60+ gaming. My question is did it lower the ping at all when the cheetah was installed or just a better D/L? On paper it seems aggregation would help ping. Did it lower yours?
@@tonyp3267 With 4x4 I can achieve around 23 ms unloaded ping on Chester Ethernet connection, and without 4x4 the best averaged around 35 ms. I should have made clear that my 40 ms ping on my test results were all on Wi-Fi using my ASUS router as AP, which is more realistic everyday situation as most of my devices are Wi-Fi connected. Therefore the unloaded ping measure also impacted by AP as well. However the loaded ping is significantly improved with 4x4 setup. Average improved by 5 times in comparison without 4x4. Hope that info helped.
@Whong Thai CGNAT is on the tmobile network side, cant change that. There are features this has to help get around it (VPN, Zerotier) and this device supports IPv6.
I didn't understand at all how this device would just work if I put in a T-mobile home internet nano SIM. You talked about IMEI lock, so how could it possibly work?
After watching your videos I purchased this router I have gone from about 3mbps to about 30 and I am waiting on my 4x4 mimo to come in so hopefully that will make it even better... I have T-Mobile home internet ... and also have T-Mobile cell service... but every time I connect my cell to wifi it goes into SOS mode now that I have this router ... can you direct me to a video that cover this issue?
I thought he did, it worked for a few minutes but then right back to sos.... I have put the AT command he gave me in a few times..always the same result it eventually kicks us back to sos on our phones @@NaterTater
IMEI. I can switch my sim card between 3 of T-Mobiles provided routers without issue. It doesn't seem to be locked to a specific IMEI. We need to find out what it is locked to so we can spoof it. Its a simple software issue once we find the information in their code.
Nate, I’m looking for a 5G modem or a 5G router that can be placed in bridge mode to act as a modem only with all routing and Wi-Fi capability disabled. I want to use my own router and my own Wi-Fi access points with the T-Mobile fixed Internet (small business). Do you know of any such devices? Additionally, I would prefer a less expensive device that doesn’t have the features I don’t need and doesn’t cost over $500. In other words, I’m looking for a 5G modem that has an Ethernet port to connect to my wired router’s WAN port. Thanks.
@NaterTater There is a router with N41 and N71 (among others) bands on 5G on AliExpress for under $250 (sold by the manufacturer) with a 7-day shipping included from China. I think $250 is a much more palatable price for a router with crappy Wi-Fi. which needs to be disabled anyway, as it’s in all these all-in-one routers. I don’t know if it has a bridge mode, though to be converted to a pure 5G modem. Peplink has a 5G MAX USB modem that can probably be used with some routers via a USB port, which is a modem only, but it costs over $600, so it makes little sense. A 5G modem for under $250 would be perfect, especially for small-business users who already have invested thousands in an existing network and only need to swap out the modem for a 5G one.
@Приличные беседы | Decorous Intercolutions there are many cheaper options and as you notice any of the "good" ones appear to be expensive and there is a reason for that. Not only is the modem hardware expensive, but the firmware/know how to make these work WELL on the latest 5G bands is hard to come by. I agree with your desire for a $250 5G modem only device that works well. I plan to test any out once/if they come out.
@@NaterTater i just got my chester device. No instructions in the box! They must really be counting on u for setup videos. Do i have to manually put the device imei number in it? I put my tmobile home sim card in and nothing happened...
@LordFlux yes, good point. You can pay extra for a static IP on the business side and that helps tremendously for getting remote access to your home/office.
Nate, if you need to have remote access to your network, which way would you go……the business or the home version using this router? Also where you able to connect your ASUS mesh system with the Ethernet cable and keep the same speed as the Wi-Fi? Thanks
@Gustavo Machado business plan opens lots of "within policy" options so its the better way to go if you can. I havent tested my Asus system with it yet but I see no reason for it to be slower.
Awesome information Nater, I've been running the Mofi4500 for a few years. I'm running it on visible. I'm locked on B4 and B13. I'm getting ard 35 down and 15 up. I was looking in upgrading to a 5G . I was wondering if it would be worth it? And what's a good cellular router? Thanks
If you have 5G signal then it's definitely worth it! The Chester Cheetah router I show in this video would work well on Visible and you can run 88 TTL.
Hello Natertater, I hope all is well. I just purchased the chester cheetah rm520, and I've been very impressed, I'm now getting ard and sometimes over 200dw and ard 15up on B2, B13, and n77 My ping time is between 1 and 2 seconds with the older visible plan. But every once in a while, under a data load, it would disconnect . Then reconnect . Update,,,,I purchased an updated SIM card because my monthly bill was $5 cheaper. Once I put in a new SIM card, I put in APN for the new visible card. My ping time went from 1. To 2 seconds to .50 to .25 ms. Alot faster ping time but the same speed. But I'm Not getting disconnected anymore under a data load. I just thought I would report that information to you. Just received the 4×4 wF. The signal on n77 was weak. Hopefully, the 4x4 will help 5g. Thank you very, very much for helping me and saving me money. Much appreciated. Take care, and God bless. Walt
You have to clone the IMEI from your T-Mobile router. Nate can’t explicitly say it, so he instead speaks of “corrupted” IMEI. At least I got this impression, but what doI know? I’m just a dumb nobody with no name, and I get false impressions for wrong reasons all the time.
Yes, just put the SIM card in the Chester device that was in the T-Mobile gateway and do the IMEI revise. I'm getting about a 50% increase in download speeds and faster ping times with the Chester device in the same location that I had my Arcadyan KVD21 T-Mobile gateway. I used to get, on average, 200 Mbps download speeds with a ping time in the mid 40s. Now, I get 300+Mbps download and ping times are in the low to mid 30s. I'm VERY happy with the Chester device, so far! I did pay the extra $100 for the Qualcomm version of the RM520N-GL but I don't know how much, if any, difference that makes in performance.
@@postalmike1971 what’s the Qualcomm version of the Quectel RM520N-GL? I thought they all use the Qualcomm chip, including the RM-520N-GL, and Qualcomm doesn’t make the actual modems; they just make the modem chip and sell it to the modem manufacturers.

Note: the bands stayed the same as before N41 and B2
T-moble had just announced that N25 was operational (B2 when the UL speed dropped, Humm!
Could not get the Nokia to change bands (only 1 T-mobile tower in my rural area that close to me).
Replace the Nokia with a Chestertech Cheetah and now back up and better. For the last month speeds are 300-500 dl and 30-40 ul consistant on N41 and N25.
Thank you for helping me get better internet service in our rural area
Steve (and thanks again)!
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Oh yeah. Over the years Nate taught me how to rig up my Nokia AND my arcadyian with waveform antennas!!! Thanks nate
I'm exactly 1 mile from a T mobile tower and their modem is hot garbage. Coming from 400 dl and 50 ul on Comcast to barely being able to watch a video is crazy. Glad I found this video, time to make some changes. Thanks for your input, it helped me make my decision.
Thanks!

Very true!
Just got mine yesterday and I tried just plugging in the sim and it didn't work, only after re-watching the video did I get the subtext that you have change you IMEI to match the old device.
My Arcadian arrived yesterday. I'm getting 12down/1up ... unsatisfactory.
Pertaining to the FA, am I able to put the eSIM in an 3rd party modem/router to utilize my external antenna I already have?
I'm not aware of how to "move" a eSIM.
@@NaterTater thanks for the reply, I gotcha, no way to use the Mimo antenna then? I’ve learned more about WiFi than I’ve cared to, but your channel has been an excellent source of information.

That is coming!
Oh boy! Thanks Nater. I’ve had my eye on this exact router for several months so your review was much appreciated. 💯👍

Are you saying you can bypass cgnat?
@@timmturner yes. By using band locking, you will be stay on the 5G band. You may still see some speed fluctuations but will be relatively in small ranges as it is a wireless connectivity nature.

Hello Nate! Is it worthwhile to wait for the Qualcomm version of this, hopefullly, with the X65 modem, versus the current Mediatek version?
I am very pleased with the Mediatek one but there is a chance the Qualcomm outperforms it. However that is always the case with technology, waiting gets you better but at the expense of having it now!
Thank you again for another informative video. I just placed order of the Cheetah and could wait to see the improvement. I will post the result and question may have when I get it. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! Let us know the results.

Nate, does the band locking on this device actually work?? I have had devices in the past that said band locking but didn't actually work.

I'd like to use this an a modem only mode with t-mobile and allow my unifi gear to do all the routing. Also, Did i miss any speed testing? You said its better but can you quantify?
You can def disable Wi-Fi and use the unifi as an AP
I was getting 2x the download speed vs a KVD21 due to the ability to aggregate multiple bands. as you know exact speeds for you depend on many things. example is i was getting 222mbps down on the Chester unit and 110mbps on the kvd21. Big speed test comparison is coming.

Stupid question but if you use a tmobile home internet sim in the chester cheetah device, you can no longer use the tmobile app to get information correct?

Hello. How many protocol VPN has this router ?
Thanks for all the great content on your channel, Nate!
I am trying to get my parents setup with better internet at the rural home. I am taking the Waveform 4x4 MIMO and the Chester gateway with me. I will be picking up a T-Mobile sim card for them to activate on their account. Will I also need to have them get the T-Mobile gateway so I can "fix the corrupt IMEI"? I am confused as to if they have to double pay for a separate T-Mobile line for the new sim card as well as the monthly fee of having the T-Mobile gateway (which won't be used since I'll have the Chester)?
What is it advantage of using a device such as this instead of the t-mobile device? Will it be undoubtably and notably faster?
Hi Nate, just found this. Can I use any sim card from a t-mobile phone or do I need to subscribe to the t-mobile home internet and use the sim from a sagecomm?

Nate, I have a similar modem/router purchased from Suncomm called the O1. Looks like it runs the same firmware. Did you do any particular commands or setup etc to get the router working with T-mobile? Or did yours work by simply putting the SIM card in and possibly setting APN. I’m on the struggle bus to keep mine staying connected without constantly rebooting.
Thanks.
if its boot looping that's not due to APN or SIM settings. Might want to contact your seller or you can see if Chester can help you out chestertechrepairs@gmail.com

If I plan to use a regular T-Mobile data SIM card (not a T-Mobile Home Internet SIM card) is that still throttled by CGNAT? And couldn't the TTL setting be configured to essentially "mask" that data line to be used for data only (like a cell phone) and not hotspot data?
Yes still on CGNAT but TMHI isnt throttled, just deprioritized. Phone SIM would have higher priority and yes to TTL question.
MHi nate. I was curious why you are all about the peplink when the MOFI5500-5GXeLTE-EM9191 CAT20 LTE + 5G ROUTER is cheaper?
Hi Brad, I'm not all about Peplink. They have some great business level management features and speed bonding/seemless failover but they tend to be a bit behind on 5G. The only Peplink I tested that showed competitive 5G sub-6 speed was Max BR1 5g Pro. The MoFi also underperformed. The fastest was Chester Cheetah but it does lack some of the advanced business features (but has band locking, tower locking and other neat features).

Yes. You can't do that with T-Mobile. Or several others.
Mr tater did you use the t-mobile sim from the Arcadian KVD21
which gateway doesn't matter. all the same SIM
I didn't see a part about carrier configuration ? this connected to the TMHI network just by inserting the SIM ? clarification please ?
Tmobile requires that the SIM and IMEI to match on home internet lines. If the IMEI matches TMHI SIM works.
@@NaterTater Gotcha...
What can I do to optimize my T-Mobile Home Internet modem with my mesh Google mesh wifi?
not much, there are no settings you can change! you can turn off the wifi to help some.

Can I put another SIM card in tmobiles gateway router?
why would you want to? they are so limited.

That is correct IF you follow this video.
Thanks.
You are on 5G SA. You can explore changing the network mode to 5G NSA and see how it fares with 4G LTE involved.

Thanks.
A few companies are working on a product like that but not available yet. These others normally allow most router features to be turned off.
