- The Vervet Forest - Episode 28 - Funny baby monkeys Merlin and Timothy meet their monkey foster moms at the vegan animal rescue sanctuary The Vervet Monkey Foundation. Orphan baby Vervet monkey Pyewacket moves to the baby cabin to continue his rehabilitation. Two new rescued baby monkeys named Trisha and Jeffrey arrive at the Vervet Forest and they fall madly in love talking to each other with the cutest monkey sounds. I give you an update on Peggy and Joli the two rescued baby monkeys who integrated into Koko Troop on the last episode. Also there are two big releases into the Skrow and Engeltjie troops for our cute baby monkeys named Stick, Zabana, Groot, Mo, Hannah and Elliot. Ricky Recardo first off a big no to hunting. That’s just ridiculous. This is an animal sanctuary to give animals a second chance at life, why would we hunt them, that’s never an answer to population control. Secondly, all the males at the VMF are vasectomized, this is why the females don’t get pregnant and why we can have the foster mother program in the first place. We are not a breeding facility, we merely believe these animal have just as much right as anyone else to be treated with decency and compassion and to receive a second chance at life.
Hey, you probably explained this already, but how do you determine which troop the babies will try to be adopted into?
Mae it’s based on the personality of the monkeys and which troop they would fit best into, also the number of males and females in a troop as well as the number of babies that the troop received last baby season and so far this season, as well as they way they handle babies and other fluctuating variables.

1:35 had me rolling...that poor baby still was unsure about the surrogate Mom following him and when baby turned around and saw S.Mom right on his tail “pun intended lol” he seriously squealed and jumped he almost did a flip!! I don’t know it was funny but it seriously had me laughing til my side hurt!!!
I know it’s an old episode but I love to rewatch these little guys. Truthfully I think these little guys and their drama is way more interesting than all the other realty shows...and it’s not scripted or staged unlike Kardashians, Real Housewives and all of the other ones. Love watching these guys!

You do such great work with these wonderful animals! They need something like this for the Macaques in Cambodia. The long tails are not valued; and suffer a lot of exploitation by the videographers. There is a lot of mental and stress issues with the moms; and mainly because of so much 'human polution' from the noises to 'overwhelming' aka 'hovering' by videographers. And they are totally dependent on humans for food; and sometimes they go very hungry. It's so sad; it would be so lovely to have a rescue like yours for them. :p But keep up your wonderful work; you guys obviously adore these animals and are creating a good place for them to live as 'monkeys'.
Robin S I agree with you, I’ve seen some of those videos, they are quite sad. The value that many people place on nature tends to be very skewed and it’s heartbreaking to see what happens when we overtake an animals land and use it simply for our own greed, as if we as humans have more of a right to the earth than any of the other creatures, which is simply foolhardy thinking that will inevitably lead to the destruction of our only life force. I too wish there were many many more programs out there in the world for wildlife in need. But the sad fact is that these programs do not make people money and so the interest in a lifetime of selflessness quickly diminishes when people see the sacrifices that are truly required to give back to this incredible planet. Perhaps one day more will see the value and decide to put the effort in to conserving the natural beauty that surrounds them. Thank you for your comment and for watching the show. 💚
Makes me cry, this is what life is all about for all of us...this common thread the lifegiving common core of all living things, love comfort saftey food warmth...money can't buy the necessity of belonging of feeling you are exactly belonging exactly where u r..it is so cathartic and healing to watch these..having been abandoned and physically abused and forced to stay alone with little clothing and in the dark and hungry and afraid many many times myself I have a real passion for rescue and rehabilitation and surrogate mom is the best healing anhd happy ending to what began as a nightmnare..sometimes fairy tale endings do happen..they happen regularly at the Vervet Monkey Foundation thanks to the tireless hard working volunteers and the intensive dedication round the clock care and constant love and support of the entire team and patrons and viewers and the shopping done at the tee spring where you can buy really cool shirts & tank tops in a variety of colors and designs and a wide ption of sizes to choose from also some pretty nice pullovers as well and other cool merchandise .

You'd be surprised what they can handle. Once you see the way the other monkeys in the wild treat the babies and the falls they take out there, all those helicopter mom instincts go right out the window.

I think its amazing how the foster moms and the troops take so well to the babies. I love to see the babies and the moms joining their troops and going back to normal life. Do the babies soon 4get what they've been thru or does it always stay with them?

Have y’all ever found one of your babies while out and about or are all of them from kind hearted people calling you guys? I’m just curious, whatever the answer, y’all are doing a good job and the work you do is amazing
Circumstances are never the same. Yes we've come across a baby and dead mother on the side of the road. Also seen babies in town being sold as pets, or a baby at a bar with someone as their pet. We get people bringing us babies announced and unannounced. I've even had to pick one up from some people in a parking lot in Johannesburg on the way back from a vacation. Anything is possible.
Where do you get the foster moms from? Did you guys take them from their troop? Is it their instinct to want to adopt babies? Just curious. I love this channel❤️❤️❤️🐒🐒🐒
There are 14 troops here at the Vervet Monkey Foundation. Each troop has a bunch of females that are age appropriate to be moms. The males in the troops are vasectomized which means they can't impregnate the females. So the females are inherently eager to have a baby of their own since they are not giving birth to their own babies. So we introduce the babies to a specific troop in an intro enclosure and then the moms are allowed to enter and leave the enclosure as they bond with the babies.
