- The Vervet Forest - Episode 30 - Orphan baby Vervet monkey Pyewacket moves to Gismo intro enclosure with baby monkeys Benjamin and Dylan to meet his new foster monkey moms. Trisha & Jeffrey move to a DnD intro enclosure to meet the troop through the fence and they are joined by a new ex-pet orphan monkey named Conjo who is obsessed with playing with people. Janet moves from Disneyland to a Skrow troop intro enclosure and meets her first foster mom Polar and babysitter Buffy. Maggie in the Engeltjie intro enclosure meets her first foster mom Jesse and Jesse's adopted monkey son Theo. Theo is an adorable monkey who has been sick many times and his growth is stunted but he and Maggie develop the best animal friendship. Trisha then develops a thrush infection and she and cute baby monkeys Conjo and Jeffrey are moved back to the baby cabin for quarantine.

The #1 thing that I love is how this foundation allows the foster mom time to be curious yet mature enough, too foster but also allowing the babies to pick on there own who they're comfortable with as a mother… and not just assigning a foster with a baby.
These babies know who they're the most comfortable with… it just amazes me they will stop… relax allow the mom of their choice to groom them, then like magic, they just latch on!

Jessie made me laugh out loud. Who knew monkeys are so vain?? She truly looked like a human female checking herself out in the mirror from multiple different angles to make sure that she looks good. Lol. And Conjo’s offended face was priceless!

But it’s interesting some of them develop certain grooming habits to distinguish themselves, like a female in Camelot who puffs out the hair on the troops faces, another in Engeltjie who plucks eyebrows, Mrs. Gold in Goliath who licks her arms and puffs out her arm hair like little spikes, and many more weirdos lol.

Watching them all grow up is so incredible! The color of their faces are getting darker, etc. I loved the part about Janet. She kept running back to the fence! Must be hard to not touch them anymore once you introduce them to the enclosures!

I definitely think they smile sometimes. I mean, maybe its not exactly the same thing, but their faces definitely light up with joy and love from time to time. :)
Ah, good, then it isn't just wishful seeing, lol. My husband pointed out a video with a baby elephant that I am certain was smiling. Ever since then, I look for that.

I love this series, and I am also setting funds aside to donate as I can, because I love what you all are doing there. I know that every little bit adds up and can make a real difference. For myself, I have my last hospice/permanent foster doggie still with me (and I hope he will be here for a few more years! - I've been involved in animal welfare/fostering/rescue for decades, and I am also a pet trainer), but when he does finally pass over the "rainbow bridge", I am planning on taking some trips overseas to volunteer...and, who knows? Vervet Monkey Foundation Hi Kyle, I have checked on all of the Nat Geo TV channels, their app, On Demand, and PPV, but the most I found was a 2 minute clip, not the full movie. I also checked the Canadian, American and Australian websites, found a couple of short clips but still not the full movie. I sent NatGeo an email asking where I may be able to view it, and will let you know if I hear back.
Vervet Monkey Foundation Update- I received an automatic email response from NatGeo stating "National Geographic Channel Canada does not own distribution rights to any of our programming, and therefore, copies of shows we air are unavailable for purchase through us." So I'm not holding out much hope. I have no problem paying to see it, if it is somehow available.

I'm playing catch-up and this as got to be the funniest and most endearing episode I have seen so far and that includes Season 2 with my fave Vera! I cracked up when Kate tried to run out of the intro enclosure with the baby. And seeing Conjo's expression after Jeffrey smacked him was priceless.

Linda May Thanks! Yes ex pets can be very complicated to integrate as you will see in some future episodes, generally they are very afraid of the adult monkeys and have to unlearn a lot of pet behavior and relearn a lot of monkey behavior.

Hello Kyle. Oh my gosh, yes, I would love to see daily vids of the VMF and Bandit monkeys! And, of course, if ever you can film anything Merlin and Phyllis, please do so. Unfortunately, I don't have access to Nat Geo Wild, but if the documentary were to be distributed for purchase via digital download or DVD I would definitely buy a copy. I adore these little monkeys and the way you tell their stories is wonderful. I'm so glad you found your niche in life filming and educating others about these monkeys. Please, never stop telling their stories and educating people that they are not meant to be pets.

Do they ever bite humans or attack them? Is that why there’s an electric fence? Do you feel safe to go in their wild section?
Therese Ember yes they do bite people if people mess with them, they’re wild animals after all.
The fences are not for our protection, they are for the monkeys protection, so that they are in a safe environment and so that we can monitor them efficiently and care for them as needed.
The wild troop I feel safe around, but only because I am ranked high in that troop due to the amount of time I’ve spent with them, the fact that I’m a male, and honestly just my personality and vibe I give them. But for others, especially new volunteers it’s always advised to give the wild bandits space because the monkeys will test you and see what they can get away with, especially if they sense that you have a weaker or softer constitution and they think they can take advantage of you.
But many of the enclosed troops have monkeys that are aggressive and no one ever goes in unless that monkey has been isolated to an intro enclosure prior to a human going into the main enclosure.

Yes, it just takes more time and effort and a lot of unlearning and re-learning on his part.
