  • In this video I discuss 5 things that I believe Americans can learn from Filipinos and from living in The Philippines in general. Moving across the globe is not small step and with that comes the opportunity to expand your horizons. After living in The Philippines for some time, I can say that there is a lot we can learn from the country when it comes to family, money, and being happy.

    From the Philippines, we immigrated to the USA when my daughter was 12 years old. By then, her Filipino values like respect for elders, priority towards education, etc. were already ingrained. She never became a rebellious teenager despite her new environment.

      That's probably a good middle ground. That way like you said they are raised in The Philippines and learn those values, but also have the opportunity to attend high school and university in the US

    Every since I been going to Philippines 🇵🇭 when I come back to USA I look at things differently we as Americans are spoiled and privileged. I lived in province for 3 months with a young lady and her family they treated me like I'm family. They love family and good food Philippines is a game changer for this 57yo man. Great video sir.

      Well said and great story. That's the thing about The Philippines, people treat you like family. You can make some great friendships too here, because people are more open in my opinion.

    The U.S. have that 'Keeping up with the Joneses' mentality. Status is more important,
    than family bonding. Wealth is more important, than making great memories.
    Political wins are more important, than treating your countrymen righteous.

    Right ✅
    San Francisco 🌉 native here . My hometown has 1 of the most Filipinos in the USA 🇺🇸. Meanwhile, the Mission District has many Latinos, mostly from Mexico 🇲🇽.
    I traveled to and from The Philippines 🇵🇭 for 26+ years. Many of the Philippine traits match those of Latinos: mostly Catholic ⛪, family 👪 is important, the collective is given more attention, being late is common and both groups sung well. Mariah Carey is a Latina. Her counterpart Morissette Amon is from The Philippines 🇵🇭. Spain 🇪🇸 is the main influence for both groups.
    Chinese 🇨🇳 and Indonesian 🇮🇩 influences are the 2 which make The Philippines 🇵🇭 different than Latin America.

    • @TheNYCexpat

      Yea a lot of latin people say that the Philippines feels like a Latino country. Makes sense given the history like you said, even the language has some similarities too

    The reason the Philippines is very hospital is because they have respect for other cultures and they would like to learn of different cultures. They are also humble and friendly people. They don't like to complain nor be confrontational unless they are unjustly disrespected. They are laid back and patient. When you come to the Philippines you will learn to be patient or you will likely hate living here. You will need it because there are long lines with leisurely service which results in a longer waiting time to be accommodated more than you are accustomed to. So go with the flow and reset your expectations. You're not in Kansas anymore.

    We moved to the Philippines almost 16 years ago. I prefer to raise my kids here in the Philippines than in America. The cost of raising a child in America is so high. I'm terrified of school shootings. As a parent, it tugs at my heartstrings when I hear about it in the news. Then, there's the loss of parental control and rights over their kids in schools when it comes to gender ideology and affirming. Higher education is unaffordable such that students end up being in debt just after they graduate. Health care is more advanced in America. But of what use is it if one doesn't have access to it / can't afford it? Occupational therapy, CBT, speech therapy for kids is a lot less expensive here than in the US.

    • @TheNYCexpat
      @TheNYCexpat  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, agree on those points. I thought about those same things, I even mentioned some of those same concepts in my other videos. Also yes the housing prices on america are way too high. For someone who likes living in the city too, our cities are falling apart with drugs and crime and that's on top of the outrageous prices like you mentioned. There are alternatives, people should know about

    Adding another comment to your last point. I do completely agree with you on the strong families. I think a lot of that is based on finances actually and that they have to, but it’s good on the flipside the amount of single moms and irresponsibility of the men I have to question quite honestly the Filipino women are awesome

    • @TheNYCexpat
      @TheNYCexpat  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yea that's true too. Stuff isn't always as black and white as it seems, there's reasons behind things like you said. I see a difference though about how family time is perceived here. It's not necessarily looked down upon to live with your family or for family to spend time together like in America there can be done societal differences, but not all. We can't generalize everyone, but yea the main point is just that it's nice to see family values I guess

  • @Ray_Warren

    In many instances, you are correct about supporting each other for the Filipinos. However, there’s also a flipside to that known as the Filipino crab mentality as I have been taught by my Filipino wife. when there's no real problem and life is easy, people will start to create their own problems to be preoccupied with something, until they forget the real problems in life. And their appreciation with small wins in life around them will be forgotten, until they only focused on their ownself, and will have me-woke personality.

    Am i watching too many movies with new yorker stereotypes? I thought you would have a new york accent like in the movies. 😅😅😅

      A lot of the new york accents in the movies are actually more of a Boston accent, like when they sound like they're saying new yawwwk, wheres the cawwwwfeee lol

    voice quality too low then a blast of looud music is not a good combination.

      Thank you for the feedback, I'll try to work on that. By blast of loud music, you mean the intro right? I lowered it 8 db in post, but will try to level it out more next video
      voice doesn't sound low to me though? I guess it could depend on your speakers, but I referenced it on an ipad pro and pixel phone and compared it to other videos and the volume sounds normal

    Your first point is counteracted by the crab mentality though

      Yea I wasn't familiar with that until my wife explained it to me. I guess I didn't see it because I don't work here, as a foreigner the perspective is probably different than a local on a lot of things. I try to look at both sides, but I didn't know that crab mentality thing until it was explained to me recently.
      I guess it really is the same everywhere when it comes to money and success, just different levels of it
