Moving back to the Philippines was one of the best decisions I made. I was born and raised here in the Philippines. I moved to SF, CA around 2000, became a US citizen, then married an American and had a baby. We both felt we were going nowhere. With our salaries not catching up to the increasing cost of living and housing prices, we decided to move to the Philippines. We've been here for over 15 years. The surprising thing is we achieved the American dream in the Philippines. We now have a second child because we can afford to have a second child in the Philippines, unlike in America where we can barely afford to raise one child. We feel safe here. Sometimes, my husband and I think about visiting SF, maybe go to the places where we used to walk, hang out, eat, shop, etc. But a lot of those places are now closed, including the deli where my husband and I met, and the streets are not clean nor safe. Feeling sad at how SF turned out. But also relieved that we're not living there anymore.
Thank you for sharing your story and yes I've actually said to others the american dream outside of america thing. america changed not for the better congrats on your baby'

@@jamescunningham6643 I'm going to be making dome videos show casing both of those places (Bonifacio global city and Eastwood city individually) as well as s video talking about some placed I recommend expats checking out. That said, yes housing inside the city isn't really an option, but lots of people do have dogs. Eastwood just built a little dog park and most of the condos are pet friendly. Idk about Bonifacio global city when it comes to having specified dog parks, but they do have of green space and parks. If you're looking for housing nearby you could look in the surrounding barangays of Taguig or bagumbayan. If you want something a little fancier than the norm they also have housing communities like we have in the usa here in some of the barangays. So many islands to choose for a vacation And not only that the warmth the culture of the Filipino people which is the Philippines is one of the Friendliest people in the world.

Your right it's cheaper to live in the Philippines than the lowest end lifestyle in the USA. In San Francisco for example, rent for 1 bedroom apartment is about 1500-1800 dollars. So it's way way lower.
Number on natural resource is the beautiful women and the number on hobby is sleeping. Also from Zoo York and have been to PI many times. Nice video keeo em coming.
Great video. I just subscribed. I have a general question. You look about 30 at the most. Are you working out there or in another line of work? I can’t imagine you’re retired. The content in this video was great. Very informative. I’m 49 and I’m taking my first trip to Thailand in a few months, but eventually I want to do a return trip and visit different countries in that region. The Philippines looks like a very interesting stop. Keep up the good work 👍
Hey thank you! I saved up before I came and now just do some teaching and odd jobs. My plan was to make a TH-cam channel when I got here, but after I got here I realized that I wasn't ready to do that and didn't want to make a channel until I actually knew what I was talking about and could offer people some good advice and content. Thailand is beautiful and everyone that goes there days they love it, have fun. Philippines is s great destination for first time travelers also for the reasons I stated in the video plus it's an English speaking country which is another bonus My advice for you is just do it. If you thought about it for a long time and still want to do it then just get on the plane and do it. It's always a big adventure, but you'll figure it out and you'll be happy you tried it
I've been to some places in the US and each time I come home in PH I always feel a little sad seeing the poverty in our country. But on the brighter side, we have nothing of those school shootings happening now in the US. That's scary. I guess it's because it's not easy to legally own a fire arm here in PH. Less shooting here, I can assure you that. God bless us.
Yea I can agree on both points. There are issues with both places, good and bad things. The wealth gap in The Philippines is a lot more visible in the day to day. Ask a foreigner it was, and maybe still is confusing seeing places like Bonifacio global city for example in the middle of a squatter area surrounding. Idk how to explain it, but it's really sort of mind blowing for someone who didn't grow up here to see both of those things right next to one another. The Philippines has so much potential and good people, how do they spread that wealth to other areas? But yea the stuff going on in america with shooting and drugs is also a big issue that is ridiculous God bless you too, thank you for watching the video
Great video. Thank you, Mike. 🙏 Congratulations on your move to Paradise. Did you check in your Onewheel or carried it on the flight? I would love to take mine with me to the Philippines. 🙏
Hey bro, thank you! As far as the one wheel I actually bought it here. There's a little community of one wheelers here in manila we even actually have done some group rides. Just look up onewheel manila. You can't take an xr or gt on a flight because the batteries are too big. You're technically supposed to be able to take an original pint, but it depends on the security there and what they feel like that day it seems like according to people's posts online lol
@@buddingsignal for sure bro, if you need anything or are ever looking for a wheel just hit up my business email on here and title it onewheel tell me it's you and I'll send you an invite to the group page for rides!
Good question. Where we live in Eastwood city it's sort of it's own little city inside of the bigger city, so we have basically like a mile or two mile area that was built specifically to be its own place. Because it has mostly everything in a small walking distance area it takes care of the traffic problem for most things day to day. As for the pollution, again you don't notice it much in Eastwood because it's development (they call it a cyber park) it's privately owned and held too a higher standard. It's a nice place, I'll be making a longer video showing more about it and a walk around. I know there are more beautiful places in the Philippines, but there some good things that Manila offers that smaller areas just couldnt, but it just depends on one's preferences. There's certainly enough islands here that one can find what they're looking for
@TheNYCexpat what sort of condo could I get for 42 million peso? And how can I buy one. Or maybe 2 separate condos and rent one live in the other? Your advise is appreciated
@@Goodman849 you can get one bedroom condos in the modern city areas for around 4 million to 6 million pesos if you look around and find the right seller. For 42 million php you can get like anything you want lol. I will be making some videos on buying here and what you can and cannot buy as a foreigner, so keep posted for that
I'm from OHIO - and we don't have a very friendly opinion of you guys - in general. > Rude indifferent and brash is what I have mostly heard from locals where I am from - who have visited the big apple ! = Sorry - but that's reality. - - - Filipinos are quite the opposite - warm welcoming and super friendly !!! - - - Also nearby the large metro areas - just outside the city centers - you can find very cheap costs of living - perhaps 85% less than the US - if your on a tight budget. Amazing and food is about half price - or even less - if - you eat local foods !?! --- Many do survive on less than $1000/mo. over there - and some say comfortably - depending on the area. A frugal life is easy to do and it seems to agree with many westerners ?
And I'm sorry to say as well, but your comment is exactly what's wrong with America right. People are living brainwashed by politics and stereotypes. You even said from what you've heard from people who visited new york, so you haven't been there yourself, but your first thought was to open the comment saying something negative about it? Please help me understand that mindset, what's the point of saying something like that? I would just suggest that you get to know someone before you make a judgement about them, otherwise you're just being ignorant. There are good people and bad people in every place in the world, that's the reality of it. People need to stop trying to categorize everyone based on location, politics, skin color, etc and start getting to know people as individuals before making their judgements because everyone is different. That goes for you, me, and anyone else in the world, so don't take it personally. Anyway, back on topic, as for prices, yes a lot of stuff is cheaper here and if you're living like a local than significantly cheaper. In the barangay you can get a meal for around a dollar equivalent. On the flip side if you want to eat some brands of foods you miss back home they also have western brands in the stores, but for the majority of things you're actually going to be paying more because of import. There's a lot of islands here and places to live, I would probably say there's something for everybody.
@@TheNYCexpat Didn't mean to upset you - it's just the reputation people in NYC have 'earned' years ago - from visiting mid westerners - and many who went there agreed ? -- I had to to conclude with the overwhelming number of people - for decades - seemed to confirm the opinions ? -- Don't persecute me for being the messenger ! -- I only shared a widely held belief !!! --?-- I practice giving everyone the benefit of the doubt so to speak - in person. Not everyone does. - - - When talking about the Filipino culture - it struck me '''hearing''' all the positive reports - that in my lifetime - the exact opposite is what I had "heard" from people who had been there !!! > '''Hearing''' from people - only - never having been to either place ?!?!?!?!? COMPRENDE SENIOR ?????? = Both had what appear to be - "earned reputations" - that were both other people opinions !!! 🤔
@@frankkluz9787 I just don't understand what your comment had to do with the video. Imagine coming to a strangers video on the internet who's discussing the positive traits of the Philippines, then going on about how rude new yorkers are without anyone asking you or even being relevant to the content. You can see how that's ironic right? Lol because I'm not the one being loud or rude here.
After living through the heat and humidity in NYC, as well as the crowding, pollution, etc. I can't imagine being in Asia, where it's like living in a sauna, like Miami. How do you feel about it? Retirement age people like myself must have difficulties. There's more to life of course than beaches and McDonald's......
I've stayed in cebu and Manila and felt like cebu was definitely hotter, but that's always where I went first so maybe I just adjusted to it also. Anyway the weather was rough at first, but I feel like it's been nice. During the day it gets hot like mid 90s, but at night mid to high 70s lately which is great weather. There's even places like Baguio city where it's usually in the mid 60s to mid 70s all day do there's some different weather options I. Philippines, but most places will be hot yea. Just make sure you have a good ac and get use to the weather slowly would be my advice

I know Makati and BGC have great healthcare but is there any in Eastwood? Getting ready to binge watch your other videos. Thanks.
Thanks man, I've always had a big mouth so I'm trying to use it now to make something on TH-cam and help out others haha As far as Eastwood goes, it's a great place for a home base. It's a city made by Megaworld inside of Quezon city so it's sort of like a little developed city of its own which means it's walkable and has most of what you need right here. . As far as health care there are two clinics for doctors appointments and stuff within Eastwood and a bunch of hospitals within ten minute drive the more notable one being The medical city which is on Pasig city Ortigas center area
Hey man! Thank you and yea, we don't have an exact phrase like that in America of course so the closest thing I could think of is mam or sir as a comparison, although it's not exactly the same like that. You are absolutely right. When non-Americans think of the USA, to them it conjures images of NYC, LA, SFO, or Chicago. I have lived in NYC, and Wash DC and I now live in Lincoln, NE. @@BonVoyage861 well if TH-cam is paying someone money isn't that a job? You might not like it, but it is what it is. Also you probably don't see many expats working jobs in south east Asia because it wouldn't make sense financially to do so. It's better to work remotely and get paid a western salary if they have the means to do so. It's the same reason a lot of Filipinos work abroad because they can get better wages doing so.

Hi mike, the most important about filipinos is they are family oriented and very accomodating.if you treat them with love, friendliness and respect, they will love you in return even treat you like a family.and we have 7k islands to go adventuring with.each island, province and cities are unique in their own way.😊

Thanks for all the nice words for Filipinos and the Philippines! It makes me think more to move back to my home country, the Philippines! I have lived in New York, didn't like the subway commute, long walks and heavy populated streets of NY, NY! I am now living in California which is laid back and more like the Philippines! Looking forward for more videos of yours! 😊
New York isn't for everyone that's for sure, glad you're liking cali though. Thank you for the support and nice words too po
Thank you for appreciating our culture especially we, us Filipinos.
Salamat po. Thank you for the kind words and watching. Will have more videos to come weekly

Enjoyed the video! You should do more content, the wife and I have discussed moving to the Philippines someday.
Thank you James. Have some more videos upcoming. Anything specific you guys were wondering about Philippines?
@@TheNYCexpat My wife is from the Philippines, but I still have a bunch of research to do before making the move, I love the BGC and Eastwood areas but we will need to find a nice housing area, we can't do the condo with our pets, they are too used to having a yard. Thanks for the reply, look forward to your upcoming content!
If you prefer the city for accessibility though it's hard to choose better than either place you mentioned
Also sure thing. Make sure to subscribe if you'd like and I'll be getting into more videos explaining things here. Probably 1 or 2 videos a week mixed in with some shorts
I can’t wait to return for another Philippine vacation.

Your right it's cheaper to live in the Philippines than the lowest end lifestyle in the USA. In San Francisco for example, rent for 1 bedroom apartment is about 1500-1800 dollars. So it's way way lower.
Yea man. I feel like that price is actually good for San Fran too! I know people who are paying double that

Philippines is s great destination for first time travelers also for the reasons I stated in the video plus it's an English speaking country which is another bonus
My advice for you is just do it. If you thought about it for a long time and still want to do it then just get on the plane and do it. It's always a big adventure, but you'll figure it out and you'll be happy you tried it
Thank you for appreciate our country bro even here in canada always have work to pay all the bills no more time for ourselves

Hello, thank you for the subscribe! And awesome congrats on your move back. What part of the Philippines are you moving to?
Thank you loving my country 💞
No need to thank me haha, thank you though for checking out the video!
We Filipinos welcome all people from the country of New York.
State of New York,perhaps
State haha but thank you!
*They say, they patterned Eastwood's design to the old San Francisco.*
I have a video coming out Wednesday showing off more of Eastwood, to me it looks like Chicagos architecture more, but it does have the trolley cars
But yea the stuff going on in america with shooting and drugs is also a big issue that is ridiculous
God bless you too, thank you for watching the video

How do you deal with the high levels of pollution there the overly congested roads
I will be making some videos on buying here and what you can and cannot buy as a foreigner, so keep posted for that
Welcome to the philippines...❤ 😊
Salamat po

New subscriber here. Just found your channel and really impressed with your information. I am quite a bit older than you and just retired. I've always heard about Makati and BGC but not much about Eastwood City. Really impressive looking area. You may have found a niche vlogging about that area. I know Makati and BGC have great healthcare but is there any in Eastwood? Getting ready to binge watch your other videos. Thanks.
Thanks man, I've always had a big mouth so I'm trying to use it now to make something on TH-cam and help out others haha
As far as Eastwood goes, it's a great place for a home base.

You are absolutely right. When non-Americans think of the USA, to them it conjures images of NYC, LA, SFO, or Chicago. I have lived in NYC, and Wash DC and I now live in Lincoln, NE. Living in the big cities of good ol’ USA is NOT like living in the USA! Living in this huge country does not make everyone look and act the same. Living in the midwest is the best decision I made about relocating outside of the big cities in the east!
Hey man that's awesome and well said. That's funny because I was actually looking into houses in the Midwest myself and Lincoln was one of the places! We've been to all of those places, I agree Eastwood is small and those places offer more to do, but Eastwood is a good home base set up. It's a nice community with mostly everything in one place.
We also were looking to rent in Bonifacio global city, but found the condos we viewed to be overpriced for what they were. It's nice to go there and hang out though
@@TheNYCexpat yesss, Eastwood wins the convenience dept hands down. Only thing I don't like in BGC is I need to walk a lot to get stuff done lol
@@MrWackydoodles yes the condo we were looking at was actually white far walking distance from everything because it was near the McKinley high way area of it, but it's definitely a sweet spot. Love the vibe there and it feels like a fresh city
What area you can find the Condos near you? Did you say East wood city?
Yes new video dropping in a couple days will show a better view of the area hint hint haha
I'm Really Getting Depress Living in United State.
Yes! We have Jobs here that You can Earn 4k a Month, Car You can Zoom out.
But Living in America is Boring, I feel like I Need Colors in My Life with my Daughter and wife. All you do in U.S. is Work and Pay Bills
I think Watching this OPEN my Eyes..... and Thinking of Moving there Soon
Hey man I'm honored that my video was able to speak to you like that.
I agree that there's more to life than the constant grind we get wrapped up in. Whether or not a move is right for you, I cant say that, but if you're not happy then change is always something you can make happen.
I'll have some more videos coming soon showing more of the Philippines and also answering questions about moving and discussing the process. Maybe they can help you out so considering subscribing if you haven't.
Appreciate the kind words
Please no real man is going to move their family from the US to the Philippines. Wake up.
@@BonVoyage861 what does that even mean? What does being a real man have to do with moving or not moving?
And also the communication. English is the second language so it’s easier to understand and communicate with people. For me that is very important
True that
Not true, cmon.
thanks for promoting my country Philippines to US... a great help.. by the way, what do you do for a living there?
Hello po, my pleasure. Thank you also for taking the time to check out the video. I teach English here and do some creative work

wow where did you find your condo deal ?
Started on fb marketplace, found a good agent, then looked at a few places
I was just in BGC . It was nice there. I went to mall of Asia in Pasay. I didn't care for Pasay.
Pasay is kind of chaotic, it's mostly known for being where the airport is lol
How did you like mall of Asia? Did you try the ferris wheel over there
@@TheNYCexpat I live in Minneapolis so we have mall of America 🇺🇸 The mall was ok 👍 I was mostly just there passing through from Guam 🇬🇺 to Hong Kong 🇭🇰 I ate at a restaurant called Mary grace. They had a good carbonara
@@Brutushungwell oh wow that's funny because I was looking at houses in the Minneapolis and st paul area, how do you like it up there? And oh yea mary grace we have one here in Eastwood it's always packed, but we never ate there yet
Did u consider BGC in Taguig, Metro Manila instead of Eastwood? BGC is bigger and I think has more to offer than Eastwood.
Hey, yes that's actually the first place we visited when looking for condos. I really liked Bonifacio global city too, but there's a few reasons why I chose Eastwood city. I'm going to be making a full video actually about that (it's in the works already) so stick around and I'll be going into some detail about that exact thing haha
Both places are really great though
BGC is just too expensive.
that's only desame better in Eastwood coz it is compact didn't walk too long for food
This is applicable if ur a digital nomad or working online where u are paid in dollars and euros.
The value part sure because value is subjective as mentioned, but anyone can enjoy the friendly people, places, and history of the Philippines
Most of these 'digital nomads' in SEA are living off TH-cam, savings or being funded by daddy.
@@BonVoyage861 you just said that most digital nomads are living off of their job, savings, or funding. So the same as anyone else in the world?
@@TheNYCexpat No I said TH-cam, savings or daddy, oh and as I am fair I forgot two other categories: pensioners and American 'vets' who are mostly pretending they have a disability. The amount of expats legit working a job, at least in SEA, is quite low, although I have met some., and I will not mention the adult nature of what quite a few work in...
It's the same reason a lot of Filipinos work abroad because they can get better wages doing so.
maraming salamat po❤
