  • The most common questions I receive is how to soundproof a wall in an apartment, or any type of rental where permanent alterations are not allowed. These innovative ideas for soundproofing a wall in a rental not only absorb sound but also block it. Incorporating soundproofing materials like mass-loaded vinyl between an adjoining wall and a bookshelf can significantly reduce noise. However, there are specific methods that are more effective than others.

    Idea: you could hang the vinyl or the blanket on the back of the bookcase unit to still give the barrier but the bookcase will still be functional. You won't damage the wall behind because it's still on the bookcase.
    Could work as long as the materials are thin

    Do acoustic panels or acoustic foam have 0 efficacy when it comes to not allowing sound in or out of the room? Or do they have at least the minimum efficacy on that?

    I can't do a bookcase and the sound is inall rooms , in the lounge though very thick blackout curtains has helped reduce, i think I'll get some for bedroom. Ar the minute have 2 pairs of curtains on the window, not enough as the outside wall is where the upstairs noise is

    In my situation I don't care as much about sound coming in but more about sound going out. In this case would acoustic panels, blackout curtains for windows, heavy curtains on walls etc make a noticeable enough difference to be worth it?

    None of the "solutions" work in my case. My neighbor is extremely noisy and the shared wall between us is my kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom. All the appliances, cabinets, toilet, sinks, shower are on the shared wall. *What to do???* Can't thicken the wall, can't hang blankets. High humidity areas.

    what's recommended if both the room is too small and the wall too big to realistically cover it fully with a full bookshelf or drape? would even just partially getting some furniture against the wall still be beneficial?

    I live in a townhome and I’m having that issue with my neighbor noise entering the master bedroom
    Also, my bedroom faces, the road which is a main pass-through the community what are the best options and most economical options to block, road noise and the neighbor.
    The wall facing the road, has two windows, one rather large opening approximately 70” x 58” and the other one is a circular window which is 26 inch circumference. They are double painted argon gas
    Besides some of the trumped up mufflers, it’s really the sound of the tires on the road that make the most noise or the most frequent noise. I need to find a remedy.

      Same, but in an apartment. Have you had any luck? Currently dropping an offensive amount of money on some soundproofing curtains and not too confident about them...

      There’s really not much you can do to soundproof a ceiling without adding drywall or something underneath.

    What would you recommend if one wanted to create noise blocking partitions or all encompassing walls within a large open space room? For example creating a noise blocking barricade around a treadmill in a ground level apartment where the walls are shared with the neighbor.

    The bookshelf idea is a bit impractical. Even if I wanted to buy a bookshelf that big for a rental, if I could afford that I could afford to buy my own place.

  • @brenna7870
    @brenna7870 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    None of these are practical. One of the shared walls that I have with my neighbor is a bedroom wall. That wall is the only one my bed can fit on. I’m guessing it’s the same for my neighbors since I can hear their snoring almost as if they are in the same room as me.
    Love my apartment aside from this issue so moving out is not going to happen.

    Well then the development on where I live these apartments must have leaf walls cause my neighbors are so damn obnoxious that even me talking over the phone is bothersome to those psychotic people. These walls here are very frail and ALL of their business and mine are simultaneously known by both apartment that has obliged me to hinder my visitors if I am to have neighbors of this kind : psychotic and wise guys all of them , y’all don’t know. So I honestly do appreciate your video here and the suggestions as well but if you could , educate us some more on how to yes, block out the articulate words people have in their homes to be kept private, what can be done to these walls to block out sounds and eventually have a heavy and severe silence? When that day comes , maybe I could go back into playing my clarinet, my violin and piano not to mention my singing

    What if the noise is coming from below you, lenders converted their garage below me into living unit so they r moving in soon + they have 2 small dogs who have sharp barks... I can hear them beneath me clearly yet I was told they did soundproof w Rockwood.

    Hi I live in a rented apartment where the wall my bed is against is a shared wall with the garbage chute / elevators. Is there a way to dampen this noise that doesn't create structural impact? Would a bookshelf that isn't the length of the wall but is directly against the garbage chute section work for example?

    • @soundproofguide
      @soundproofguide  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it would help minimize the noise if you have it directly in front of the chute.

    Hi! I’m using two cabinets. Placing them front and back to act as a wall dividing the living room and my room. Thickness is 50cm for each cabinet.
    They are full height.
    Do u think it’ll be sufficient for sound proofing?
    Or should I add an extra dry wall in between the two cabinets?
    Tks
