I'd say that about any chair or settee. I had an Ektorp sofa, bought very cheaply about 15 years ago. It was the most comfortable settee, even though it was the 2nd cheapest available in Ikea at that time. Unfortunately, it was ruined in a flat that had rising damp. It was discontinued, but I notice that they have it again - for over 3 times what I paid back then. Well, inflation, plus I got it on offer means it probably is still a good deal. But they might have changed the design, so I still wouldn't buy it before trying.
Most sofas seem to be too deep and too low to actually sit in. It seems the idea is, that you're not supposed to really *sit* per se, but sort of just lay about. I hate it.
I've had that table you mention at the beginning in 4 apartments at this point for over 10 years and it's served me so well! It worked when I was just renting a room, it worked when I was in a studio, it works now with a living room/kitchen combo as a nice side table for my couch on most days and a dining table when I'm entertaining. Absolutely a great buy
Having moved to a studio flat in a retirement village, I find myself now living in the same space I work in. Every piece of furniture is multi-purpose, and most are on lockable castors. Originally a mix of several pieces from bargain sites online, I unified them by using chalk paint in mostly antique white, with touches of pale duck egg blue. It works, as it is functional and looks calm....
I have the foldable birch Norden table, and I've had it for many many years starting when I was a student living in a 15m2 room with this table as my kitchen. The drawers held all my cups, spoons, canned and dry goods and so on. Tiny oven and electric kettle on top. I kept it folded up against a wall, and just lifted the one leaf to eat myself. Repositioning it to use both leaves was a job my guests had to help with lol
I just bought it used from someone and I absolutely love it. It's sitting back of my sofa, next to the cat tree and I use it as a craft table, tha drawers are used for storing whatever craft stuff I'm doing at the moment

I have a very tiny bathroom with not countertop, so I use the Raskog cart with the cutting board top. It's fantastic! All of my daily use stuff (less tidy) is in the top tier, and the two lower tiers for less regularly used items hold an amazing amount. My bathroom is so small that the cart is usually right next to the sink, blocking the shower. Then, when I shower it gets wheeled over to the other side of the sink. When I'm doing something where I need repeated access to the top tier, I can put the cutting board on my sink, so I still have a countertop! It's one of the most satisfying things about my tiny space. Note: Because I was using it in my bathroom, I oiled the cutting board (both sides) three times so that it repels water a bit. I used actual cutting board oil for this (bought at hardware store) because it is thinner and soaks in properly, whereas vegetable oil leaves a weird sticky residue after a while. I will re-oil it occasionally.
I have two Raskog cart in my art studio, love them! I didn't even know there was a cutting board top! Great tip about oiling it for your use. I have lined mine with felt sheets (eco, not wool or rayon) to keep the sound down (rattling art supplies). I'll mention too, that if they are rolled around often be sure to check and tighten the wheels after some time...Or there could be a bad scene!

Yes yes! Agree about the Norden gate-leg table. I have a small living room and need a fold away table. I’m aged 70 yrs old & I couldn’t even move it in the shop - too heavy IKEA! I have an old gate-leg table, so tired of trying find a comfortable place for my legs.
Hi Daniel! I do have a content request. Would you be kind to consider making a video providing tips and insights on where to place your furnitures and home items inside the house? Like what are the things to avoid putting near windows and doors, etc. Hope to see one in the future! Thank you so much!
Designing my small apartment force learned me everything from this video. I just wish I watched this before I started designing. A few more thins I would like to add are: - pull-up beds are also a great secret storage space; - watch out how tall a drawer in a cabinet is - Ikea's are around 16 cm but other brands might be around 8 or 11 cm. The shorter they are the less things you can put inside and this limits your space - watch out for tables's sideboards - I had to choose beteween a dinign room or a living room so I combined them. The table I bought is perfect to eat on while sitting on the couch but very uncomfortable for the knees. Meaning typical dining room tables are tall to pair with a couch. The table in the video is a great choice.
The quality of this video is over the roof. If you're still doing all the editing on your own, kudos to you. The content of the video was actually very useful. Even if I'm not looking to buy any new furniture at the moment, it's good to keep updated about the IKEA options out there for small apartments. Cheers from a fellow youtuber!
I have used plain white IKEA kitchen wall units and larder units, added legs and used them as wardrobes and floor units in my sitting room, they look amazing in small spaces and you can easily disguise the hardware on the "countertops" with objects, a cat bed (!), art materials, books, etc.
Thanks for sharing this, Daniel! As someone who is just starting in my solo living journey, your insights about maximizing space, utilizing storage, and comparing the differences between styles and materials have helped me get a positive vision on how I can improve my home. Thanks a lot!
I live in a 30m2 studio so my space is small small. One of my latest addition which I love is the LINANAS sofa. I had originally given up on being able to have a sofa when IKEA released it. Usually their budget sofa are hard and uncomfortable and the fabric tends to pill but this sofa has been super comfy that I fall asleep on it sometimes. It’s so small and compact so it’s easy to move around. Another thing I got was the KURA reversible bed. It’s marketed for kids but it fits a single adult perfectly fine and I use the bottom space for storage with a curtain over it.
Great video! It's great to see a professional not being a snob about Ikea. I've watched you do some amazing things in miniscule places with some of these products or something similar.

The problem with the Kallhall is the change in material is a change to much less sustainable materials. Particle board contributes to a reduction to poor indoor air quality as the glues offgas chemicals into your home. I miss the days when IKEA used more solid wood.
Oh ok. That is what I keep asking the interior design team n carpenters. Why is it that if I open any modular kitchen cabinet or wardrobe after a few days....I get burning eyes n a smell! I was told it will go in a few days ...but it hasn't gone even after two years :(. Dang it.
They still use solid wood, it's just that over time new cheaper lines have made with particle board due to price competition. The more expensive item ranges are still solid wood
I have three of the Raskog carts. I love them. Most shelf/cart combos like it are do flimsy. Not the Raskog though. Absolutely perfect. Now I need to get that wooden top for it you showed.
I was subscribed, but then unsubscribed when I was purging the vast majority of my channels. I have resubscribed today. This video represents incredible value for someone like me with limited mobility to go and explore IKEA stores (so much walking) and limited storage and living space in a new home. I am so grateful that I've seen this video, Daniel, and I have saved it for the nearish future when I come to rearrange the home better. Several of these options will be given my serious consideration! Thank you very much. Really, I am delighted!
I added IKEA's own castors to my best units so I can wheel them around, useful in small spaces. I love my Ektorp sofa, so comfortable, you need a high back and padded armrests for comfort
I own the fyresdal daybed and i've been using it for a year and a half. the only issue i have is that the two twin mattresses often separate and shift when the bed is extended. Since the 2 front handles are too small to hold a mattress in place on their own.. But it's very beautiful for the price and the single reason i'm able to fit a king in my awkwardly laid-out 30 sqm studio!
If I'm not mistaken, this bed would be 150-152cm / 5ft wide. Your standard queen size sheet (it may be king size in UK) should fit over both mattresses and keep them together. There are different depth sheets, so if you go for 25cm/10" the sheet should fit your mattress snugly.
I also was very enthusiastic when I saw the Jattebo sofa online, but when I sat in it in the showroom, the back was really uncomfortable. The back is a tad too low and it is too straight to give proper lumbal support. It can be fixed with large pillows, but if a sofa is depending on that to correct the comfort then there is something wrong in the design. At least with the Soderhamm, they throw in a back and lumbal pillow by default to address that. It's a pity, but I haven't ruled it out entirely for my upcoming sofa purchase.
I agree that the Norden Table is very versatile. I have been using it as my desk for many years. I agree because of the solid Birch, it is a bit cumbersome to move. I also have a drawer that sticks. Still, it is the prefect "extra" table. I would also recommend tv stands from Target for $10 each. Has all of the versatility of a folding chair, but as a table. I have switched to these in recent years. They are a bit cheap looking, but keep an extra one or two around for personal use, and when you need an extra flat surface.
Thank you for the suggestion on the FYRESDAL day bed. I am looking to minimize my furniture need (once it is time to toss my old furniture), I think this could be a good replacement for my current sofa [Todd Oldham "Snap Couch" 2004].
Having lived in a 1 bedroom apartment with my partner for 12 years storage is thee problem. Have a bed with space underneath to have boxes with lids for footwear, clothing, bedding, towels, spare hangers, and office stationary etc,. Shelves are really useful too. Over the door hooks for coats and back packs. 🤗
We have the Frysedal in our rec room, which is a great guest bed. Thanks for the tip regarding the sofa back cushions! We've been looking for supportive cushions to make it more comfortable as a couch.
Just found your channel by a random google suggestion and after this one video, I've subscribed! You have a very clear, concise, and friendly way of speaking. Great video flow as well 👍🏻 Hello from Essex 🤗
I owned the birch Norden for years, and I hacked it with 1 inch Castor wheels. I loved it, but my wife hated it, as she felt that it wasn't comfortable. BTW the white Norden isn't solid birch, at least not when I owned one. It was MDF.
That's a great hack! Also a good point about the Norden table. The white variant is made with particleboard tops and fronts, the birch variant is made mostly from solid birch 👍
Always found Friheten a great small space sofa bed, makes a great double bed and has loads of hidden storage. Mine is at least 8 years old and has held up very well.
Amazing! I rent a really tiny apartment so it is so wonderful to have these modular suggestions that I can actually see myself using in future spaces too!😊 thanks so much
for those who are lazy, here are the list of items * norden - kalhall + terje * fyresdel/duvholmen * tolkning (if storage needed)) * grundsjö (if storage not needed) * jattebo * trullstop * besta * udmund * mosslanda/maleras/malmback * raskog
Thank for this. I have a small studio type unit here in the Philippines and IKEA store is available in Mall of Asia and this is very useful for any future plan. ❤❤❤ Please keep on creating content like this. Kudos
Ya I’m in love ❤ w/my BESTA. I loved the original look in display and kept it that combo. Did the greenish hue top glass with light wood cabinets .. It looks so clean 😅
I use Mosslanda in the kitchen as a tea and coffee shelf. Had a Lack shelf hanging there before, but it was just too deep and I kept hitting my head on the corner... Mosslanda has the right size to be head-friendly and to keep tea and coffee boxes as well as some utensils.
I don’t usually comment on yt vids, but I love your channel. I selfishly can’t wait to watch more of your content more frequently (since you’re delegating editing and such.)
Thank you so much for some valuable tips. I'm looking for a compact sofa-bed right now and Fyresdal seems a good option to consider. Your minimalistic approach is also inspiring. It's a great example of how it is possible to live comfortably and with style without having a cluttered living space.
If it's not too late for you and if you really want comfort and good value for money I honestly recommend Nyhamn. It's comfortable for both a decent sleep as well as for sitting up for long hours. If you need to store anything beneath it various storage options are also available.
In small spaces, you gotta maximize that vertical space. I live in something the size of a prison cell. My kitchen is right next to my bed, so I have recently purchased a PAX wardrobe made of two 50cm frames, using half as a pantry and half as a wardrobe. I use a tall 2 part BESTA for a server cabinet to keep computer hardware hidden and pretty.
After running across you by accident, and watching some of your videos, I’ve definitely become a new subscriber to your channel!❤ After finally remodeling my kitchen, and hopefully going to the rest of the house, including the foundation, I’ll probably be looking for furniture that is not exactly “quality” that I hoped to get. These were all great suggestions and advice. Thank you!❤
I would like to watch a video from you about your sketchup layout, what extensions you use and some tips for rendering the final project. Btw love your videos! 👍❤️
I do think that all of the products shown in video are great ideas for small homes, but I would advice to look for similar items in different shops (local/outlets/markets etc), because most of them are overpriced in IKEA. I do think that Kallhall table look cheap :/ In Poland it's price is almost the same as the price of Norden - which look much more solid. I do have white Norden table - I bought it 5 years ago and ... I regret a little that I have white one - wood colored is made from actual solid wood, while white one is made of chipboard :( inflation is ridiculous right now... Norden is for 1199 PLN now and it was for around 600/700 PLN year ago o.O I get that this price haven't change for long time as I bought it for 599PLN but the price jump made it too expensive for it quality. If someone want to buy similar table to white Norden: good idea is to check LIDL - as they do have almost identical (4 drawers instead of 6) in their offer that comes from time to time and last time it was available it was for 449 PLN (around $100). Alternative for Fyresdal can be NYHAMN - it looks like a sofa and can be turn into bed and also is made of metal and have 2 mattresses (but slightly smaller, so it is 140x200cm sleeping space). TIP: you can buy only frame of NYHAMN or Fyresdal and then buy any mattresses you like (as IKEA don't have that wide range of them), it might not be doable by their site, but it is possible in shop (and probably by phone order). I bought NYHAMN frame and mattress, but I didn't bought their cover - I didn't like colors and as I would use it mostly as bed I would go only with bedsheet. That way I saved 150 PLN ($35). [I needed really small bed frame as mine bedroom is tiny and guys who installed my wardrobe left too little space - partially because it turned out that my walls are not in perfect 90 degrees XD]
🤯 You say some of your “l” sounds very clearly and some of them as a “w” and some of them not at all. I am very intrigued by your dialect! I will have to watch this video at least three times before I can pay attention to the IKEA items 😂
9:30 Quality of the Besta has deteriorated: You can no longer sit on them, nor even align doors properly. They've become made of hard paper. Could be region-dependent, so do not order online but check before you buy!
My daybed is my sofa during the day also my bed at night. My daybed was purchased from Amazon but the look is similar to ikea …. Since I am living in a studio and it is a space saver using a daybed … there is a ton of storage underneath the bed too.
You need to say "as a French person/man/guy/girl/woman". You cannot just say "as a French". An alternative is: "as someone (who's) from France..." I'm not sure why you cannot say "as a French". There are other exceptions too that you cannot say eg. "as a Danish" and "as a Swedish" (you need to say "as a Dane/Swede" or "as a Swedish/Danish person") etc whilst you definitely can say "as a German", "as an Italian" etc but that's the way it is. I hear and read French people make this mistake a lot and it's sad that nobody corrects you. I hope you understand that it's for your own good.
@@leenieledejo6849 For my own good ? I can't choose how I speak of myself in a foreign language ? Fuck your unsolicited advices. As a French, speaking English, I will continue to use "as a French" until everybody uses it, and it becomes the norm. Ain't nobody going to fuck us over ! Watch us riot
@@Cl3verify You respond with typical French modesty and humility and, as usual, you can't recognize someone trying to help you in any way. But the French LOVE to criticize others, nit-picking the slightest thing. And they do it to mock and feel superior, not to help. Years ago, I used to say 'j'enseigne anglais" (instead of "l'anglais") and NOBODY in France corrected me. Probably because it takes either kindness or courage (or both) to correct someone...
Hi! Love many of the suggestions here. I'm curious as to the Besta units used as seats. Are they strong enough to hold adults' weight? It says "20kg per horizontal surface" on the tags..
My husband and I just moved into a microapartment and I've had my eye on the Kallhall for a while now. I agree with your assessment on the Norden table. I love them but it looks like folding the top would get tiresome. Hopefully they will make drawers for the Kallhall eventually. That's the only drawback I have on it. Other than that I'm glad IKEA makes good alternatives.
I customised Kallhäll table with vinyl which was exhausting tbh. But our flat is tiny and white just didn't fit our aesthetic. We use it everyday now and it's a serious upgrade to having back pain from eating at the couch table...
I've considered buying the Jattebo modular sofa, it is not bad at all if you get the corduroy version of it. The grey one showed in the video feels (and looks) so cheap IRL. In the end I personally opted for something else though
Great vlog. No 1: The wood table is not heavy to put up on down. But the bar is annoying.. they could have solved it by using a cross bar! IKEA has great ideas for furniture but unfortunately they don't use solid wood in most of it so..1) it doesn't last the test of time, 2) it is not so sustainable and 3) chip board off-gases👎. IKEAS one exception is the IVAR system which they have had for over 50 years now. I have moved 17x and this system is great.. durable, looks better with age (because solid wood) and can be taken appart and flat packed to move...making it light and easy to transport.

My current rental apartment has a Norden, which I love. But now I know I should get a Kallhall when I finally have my own place. Thanks for sharing!
utility carts are my fav go-to, have 1 in original dark and 1 in russet cats fit perfectly on top and junk underneath.
Thank you! I've been needing some ideas for Ikea for my new apt. I especially like the cube/bench seats.
TRANQUIL Tents impressed me with their affordable products for home and garden decoration. Finally, I have an elegant and comfortable space.
There are different depth sheets, so if you go for 25cm/10" the sheet should fit your mattress snugly.
which mattress do you use with the frame? I just got the frame for a steal of $50 but without the mattresses
He mentioned it in a couple videos and I don’t. It looks very uncomfortable
You just solved my dining table dilemma. Thank you!! I really like your channel!
This video came in clutch as I am designing my aunt's small condominium. Thanks, Daniel!
ikea should totally sponsor you if they havent already!! great content
I need this video right now!! Love these small space, multifunctional items!! ❤️
Great video flow as well 👍🏻
Hello from Essex 🤗
For small spaces- if you choose your matress well, Nyhamn. Best sofa for both sleeping and sitting up.
Great video! Been binging some of your vids before my GF and I travel to the Memphis Ikea
Amazing! I rent a really tiny apartment so it is so wonderful to have these modular suggestions that I can actually see myself using in future spaces too!😊 thanks so much
for those who are lazy, here are the list of items
* norden - kalhall + terje
* fyresdel/duvholmen
* tolkning (if storage needed))
* grundsjö (if storage not needed)
* jattebo
* trullstop
* besta
* udmund
* mosslanda/maleras/malmback
* raskog
Such a helpful video. Outlining the pros and cons, super brilliant. Thank you!
I dislike daybed because of the too thin matress, I want high quality matress, because sleep and rest is really important.
Thank for this. I have a small studio type unit here in the Philippines and IKEA store is available in Mall of Asia and this is very useful for any future plan. ❤❤❤ Please keep on creating content like this. Kudos
Love ur videos - but I would just love it, if you could always provide direct links to the ikea products in ur video description
Ya I’m in love ❤ w/my BESTA. I loved the original look in display and kept it that combo. Did the greenish hue top glass with light wood cabinets .. It looks so clean 😅
I want to thank you. Your video's look clean and informative. I am sure you put a lot of effort in them. I ❤ watching them.
I have the Norden, it's fantastic. Also, very sturdy and well built. Real wood, not chipboard or anything. You're right though, it's extremely heavy.
This is the most informative and useful video on this topic (besides the fact your channel is probably the top 1 IKEA channel on YT)
This is coming in clutch as we just recently moved to a smaller place!
I actually own the dining table and it is sturdy and absolutely awesome.
Just a question - would you be able to list the mentioned items bellow your videos? May be adding a link to the site for immediate purchase?
After running across you by accident, and watching some of your videos, I’ve definitely become a new subscriber to your channel!❤
After finally remodeling my kitchen, and hopefully going to the rest of the house, including the foundation, I’ll probably be looking for furniture that is not exactly “quality” that I hoped to get.
These were all great suggestions and advice.
Thank you!❤
I would like to watch a video from you about your sketchup layout, what extensions you use and some tips for rendering the final project. Btw love your videos! 👍❤️
That is a top notch video. 11/10. Thank you very much.
What a fantastic vlog, so useful for all age groups, great design and practical advice, thanks so much
marstrand from jysk is quite a good table, small in size but can excend quite well
I do think that all of the products shown in video are great ideas for small homes, but I would advice to look for similar items in different shops (local/outlets/markets etc), because most of them are overpriced in IKEA.
The Raskog cart comes in a smaller version if space is too tight. It's called the Rashult.
I found your channel today and I love it! Thank you for creating it. I wonder if you have a bedroom/home office makeover video?
Appreciate this video! I saved most of the pieces and will hope to be getting them soon! Thanks
I can't get enough of your channel. This is awesome 👊
Daniel thank you for information, it is very helpfull I just moved into a tiny appartment. Greetings from Mexico City
As a french, I'm laughing every time you say "pouf". Perfect prononciation and use but just... Not expecting it XD
You need to say "as a French person/man/guy/girl/woman".
You cannot just say "as a French".
An alternative is: "as someone (who's) from France..."
I'm not sure why you cannot say "as a French".
Besta appears to be the Best solution for people who like to customize their storage space while still maintaining a cleaner look.
This video is outstanding! Possibly one of the best I’ve ever seen on here! Thank you so much :)
Good selection and tips. Just a shout out at your completely mangled pronunciation of the Swedish product names. Hilarious - I'm Swedish :)
Hi there! Thank you for your videos. Very useful and practical advice. One thing you don’t seem though is lazy!
New subscriber 😊. Love the professionalism of your video. And (I think) you nailed the pronunciation of the item names!
I friend of mine has the metal day bed as his normal bed. She says it is confortable. She bought the one with the thicker double mattress.
The jattebo looks so good I can’t wait to see it in person in Canada. The dining table and coffee table were so sad looking :(
Whats your opinion about the Ivar modular Series? Also recommending the Nissafors as an Alternative for the Rashult.
I customised Kallhäll table with vinyl which was exhausting tbh. But our flat is tiny and white just didn't fit our aesthetic. We use it everyday now and it's a serious upgrade to having back pain from eating at the couch table...
I love Raskog, such a useful thing... other things I don't fancy that much, but Raskog...:)
You should make shorts pronouncing Ikea products
Gosh I need you to come look at our house. Really struggling with the space
Great video! I might just get that elevating coffee table. What hair product do you use?
Have you seen the Varmblixt coffee tables yet? They seems gorgeous and looking forward to delivery options opening up.
You are the best. Thank you for keeping it real.
I've considered buying the Jattebo modular sofa, it is not bad at all if you get the corduroy version of it. The grey one showed in the video feels (and looks) so cheap IRL. In the end I personally opted for something else though
Literally following all your suggestions.. just buying them second hand 😅
Quality content and straight to the point as always💪🏻😊
Thank you for this wonderful video, Daniel. I appreciate the great advice you give and definitely very timely
I have moved 17x and this system is great.. durable, looks better with age (because solid wood) and can be taken appart and flat packed to move...making it light and easy to transport.
as a person from post-ussr country i had flashbacks when saw this falsing ikea table
we used to have similar one in every house
