Also apparently now Ultra Beasts aren't "officially" (whatever that means) considered legendary, but they act in-game like all the other legendaries have in the past. Thus, for the sake of this video: the term "legendary" will encompass Legendary Pokemon, Mythical Pokemon *and* Ultra Beasts. #SemanticArgumentsWorstArguments

Registeel is so much better than Regirock. Not that it's even that good but it's easily better than Regirock. You're firstly acting like having 150 in both defences is a bad thing. Saying it doesn't have a niche is ridiculous, it has base 150 in both defences! That's really good... Secondly, Steel is a thousand times better of a defensive typing than Rock. 3 weaknesses as opposed to 5 and as 12 resistances as opposed to 4.
If you need any proof just look at their past positions in tiers.
Regirock has been NU since DP.
Registeel was UU in DP and BW but dropped to RU in XY. Still better than Regirock.
Exactly. Although I agree with him saying that a niche is suuuper important in competitive play, a bad/useless niche is a thousand times worse than no niche. And it turns out that Registeel's typing is already more than enough to put him in a higher tier.
I agree so much. It's really detrimental for a defensive Pokemon to have garbage stats in one defense but great in the other.

its the HP that kills them. Most pokemon that have super high defences but terrible hp are almost always trash walls unless they have something like toxapex which gets so many ways to recover hp

Regigigas DOES have a signature move. It's called crush grip. Does more damage depending on target's hp.
Regigigas is clearly good, for long fights at high levels obviously.
And in-game, at least, Slow Start, on a Pokemon who still outruns most everything really encountered and has amazing coverage there, only lasts a little while to be a nuisance. Competitively, its stats have competition with Slaking, who boasts, in the short run, a little more in-your-face curb stomping, but Slak's ability is also pretty awful overall. Two amazing-by-stats Normal types who have to be hindered somehow to prevent screwing most teams over.
Crush Grip is literally just physical Wring Out. What a waste of a signature move. Granted, the Abra line's Kenesis is pretty much just pointless since they just die to a physical hit anyways, and they'd rather use other moves.
Also, the random really, really minor nerf to Wring Out and Crush Grip just makes no sense. They just made it so the formula is 120 X (Target's current HP/Target's max HP) > or = 1 rather than 120 X (Target's current HP/Target's max HP) +1.
"Regigigas is good." Use it for a high level fights and try saying that again. It will get fucked by any good trainer who knows the hard counters. It has shit recovery so it will go down before or just after its nature stops screwing you over.
@@R3tr0v1ru5 Long fights at high levels don't really exist, at least not any near long enough to make up for slow start. Fights that lead to a single pokemon still being out after 6 turns have basically already been decided and the stat boost won't do anything.

Realistically (if Game Freak were going for more realistic-type type coverage), Ice should have strength against: Ground (due to the earth/ground splitting and cracking from ice expanding and contracting it); Flying (because birds' flying ability gets real hampered when their wings are frozen over and they divebomb out the sky to their deaths); Electric (because most cables and appliances will break when exposed to frigid temperatures); Grass (because plants die with too low of temperatures); Water (because frozen over from temperatures); Bug (because bugs usually can't survive low temperatures as plants can't); and Dragon (because they're essentially overglorified birds, unless they're Frost Dragons (Skyrim logic)).
The weaknesses stand where they should: Fire (due to heat melting away cold); Steel (because it is usually temperature resistant and can pierce right through frozen objects); Rock (same case with Steel); and Fighting (because humans can usually either survive or thrive in cold temperatures).
Fairy should be weak to Ice, because fairies derive their powers usually from the nature around them, and ice weakens nature. Ghost should be strong against Ice, because ghosts are typically depicted as cold, lifeless entities; Dark follows a similar pattern, instead being strengthened by the cold since dark areas are usually quite colder than regular-temperature areas. Psychic should remain neutral, because wizards, and magical beings like psychics, neither are majorly injured nor incredibly powered-up by the cold. Poison and Normal follow this logic as well, both neither destroyed nor boosted in regular conditions by the cold.
So new types Ice should be super effective against: Fairy, Bug, Electric. New types Ice should be weak against: Ghost, Dark. Neutrals remaining remain the same. New resistances for Ice: Dragon, Fairy (both pretty much can't do anything in extreme colds, and only when they have evolved past it can they overcome it). New types resistant to Ice: Ghost, Dark (both essentially absorb the cold for their own uses, and aren't harmed by it whatsoever). Grass and Bug would have been added into types Ice can resist, but there have been many more cases of them being able to evolve past simply the frigid cold, to thrive in said conditions, so they get a small pass if only in that case.
Sorry for this really long post, in advance. Just trying to come up with a good explanation for things, similar to a certain few videos did before.
I don't think Ice should be effective against electric because pokemons dont usually have cables inside their bodies. Don't see how Ice can hurt pure electric energy. And water pokemons surely will take Ice attacks more easily than any other type.
While Ghost and Dark may have resistance to Ice, Ice too should have resistance to those types, since they share simular nature (by your logic).
Don't really understand how fairy type works, so can't comment on that, tho I doubt fantasy logic is applicable to pokemon universe.
If it was for me, I would add to Ice resistance Grass, Flying and maybe Bug types, and leave offensive as is.

Yeah, the trio are surprisingly lacking defensively, and there's simply no reliable way around Slow Start.
The Regis aren't my favorite either, especially in Pokemon go and Regirock. When they were in the raids it was annoying trying to catch them. Regice and Registeel were easy, Regirock though was a pain in the arse to catch. It never stood still, it was constantly jumping and moving. Even when it stood still long enough-which usually lasted one second or less-for me to get it into a pokeball, it would literally jump out less than one microsecond out of it. The pokeball barely touched it and it's out of the freaking pokeball. I hate Regirock for that.

I feel like Mythicals are just a sub category of Legendaries. (Also Deoxys isn't a mythical anymore, hence why it wasn't given away for the 20th anniversary.)
Mythicals are legendaries. The amount of difference between mythicals and legendaries is the same amount of differences between the 2 gastrodons

I think they designed Regigigas for duo battles, as his skill can be removed with a Victreebel or Slowking with Gastro acid, removing slow start from the first turn; something like Slaking's Truant skill. But ye, it sucks on singles as much as my english does xD.

So that doesn't actually work. Slow Start modifies the stats as soon as you switch in, so removing the skill does nothing. You'd need to negate the ability before entering (I think the new Wheezing might negate abilities?) In order to have this work
they need to give it another ability its been long enough.

I feel that Phione is much worse than Regigigas because Regigigas has a much larger movepool and better defenses. Its only stat worse than Phione's is its speed after Slow Start.
Phione isn't bad it's just outclassed by too many pokemon, it serves pretty much no useful purpose

na verizion is worst... an unkown with hidden power flying can kill it with ease... pimpite did that lol! and no power ups either lol! anyhow the worst legendary is the one that evolves to the moon or sun legendary... cause the pre evolve form has no attack what soever... 2nd phione because of lack of movepoll and bad stats... regigias is good if you have him team up with a pokemon that knows skill swap or a mummy pokemon that can use the mummy ability to turn his slow start to mummy

I personally feel really bad for Regigigas, it's one of my favorite Pokemon in terms of style and history. But near everybody says Regigigigas is one of the worst Pokemon because of it's lack of recovery and Slow Start. Poor Regigigigigas, Gamefreak made him cool but also terrible.
EDIT: I need to re-word part of what I said. Regigigigigigas is not a terrible Pokemon per se, nor are the other 3 Regi's for that matter. Some will rant about the lack of recovery, but one of the comments below did point out the very valid point that they do not lack support. And even despite the ever-lasting debates about which Pokemon has objectively better stats than which Pokemon, it all boils down to the very fair point of preference and what someone finds to be the most fun for playing the game to their tastes.

True they lack recovery, but They don’t lack Support, All The Regis Get thunder wave, Toxic, Regigigas With Confuse Ray and Knock off, regirock with Stealth rocks, And Registeel with it’s Set of Getting up it’s defenses with Amnesia, Curse and Iron Defense. So how many people are don’t look at the status moves they get.

I think regigigas is the only legendary Pokemon to be below the Pu tier.
My personal favorite of the legendaries would be the "Mew Clones" like Azelf, Uxie, Victini, etc. Stats not as important for me but it doesnt really matter because I never use legendaries. It just doesnt feel right.

@@rajt9996 Victini has 100 in every stat for a 600 total just like Mew and Celebi. Those 3 are clones. Lake trio? Not so much. They each total 580 but with different stat spreads so they're more like the legendary dogs or Regis than Mew
I’d say Lake Trio doesn’t fall under that subset but Victini as well as Celebi, Jirachi, etc do. Basically whatever is the first mythical of a region that’s a floating lil guy or something. Lake Trio is a trio and just regular legendaries so I think that they might be a stretch to call Mew clones
Ice should lose a weakness and gain resistances. Like loose rock as a weakness because ice can break rock. And gain resistances such as water, grass, flying, fairy (unlikely but would be nice for another fairy check and give ice more competitive usage), and maybe even rock since glaciers carve into bedrock
Brady Andres Rock can break ice... and ive never seen a case of ice breaking rock, unless you consider ice covering the rocks as breaking them.

999K views Nah, that would make Bug harder to use. I understand your reasoning but Bug is already resisted by 8 or 9 types so it’s hard to use already. Making it weak to ice would make it more vulnerable.

Zero 123 Water seeps into rocks, freezes, cracks the rocks apart. It happens. Same thing happens with trees, ever see a tree explode from being frozen? Look it up.

Saying Phione isn't a Mythical/Legendary is like saying Cosmog, Cosmoem, Lunala and Solagleo aren't Legendary because they evolve. I don't why breaking a Legendary tradition suddenly makes them no less a Legendary.

For Solgaleo/Lunala's case, it messes up the value of getting them as cover legendaries, especially since its implied there is more of them out there..
Mythicals might bend stuff around like Manaphy/Phione did but its not suitable for mascot legendaries, especially since they give off more of the "one of a kind" thing

They can't even attack so I don't really think they count. Also Legendaries typically don't evolve so I count each three as a set, and Solgaleo/Lunala are quite good.
Jrose11 Wait a minute you don't class the Cosmog line as legendary because it evolves and legendary Pokèmon don't evolve, but you put Phione on the list, even though it can be bred, while every other legendary cannot be bred. I mean where is the logic in that?
I don't count them individually is what I said... So I would look at the set and Solgaleo and Lunala are good so thus I didn't put Cosmog, on the list.

FrYer Dyre as having ±1450 coil in PS! i can confirm that ALL high-ladder players (1600-1800) use legendaries, but they do so because they are legit better! the only time you SHOULD use malamar is as a xern counter, except it. dies before it can do a thing...
I really like Regigigas but I gotta agree slow start let's it down and to be honest it should've got a hidden ability like the other regis
Lower its amazing stats (without the Slow Start), and it'd work just fine with that. As it is, those high stats (in most categories) without a hamper like Slow Start = big trouble for most teams.

This list is not bad but is a bit flawed. You completely ignored how Registeel having way better Sp.D and 150 for each defense is really good for a wall, plus he's steel type which resists way more types than Rock and it also halves stealth rock damage. I'm not saying it's good, but he's definitely way better than regirock and it's really painfully obvious why. Other than that the list is pretty accurate but it could explain better a few point like why said type is not good for offense or defense.

Water and Steel is quite a good mix, only weak to Electric, Ground, and Fighting. Steel and Bug is the best for having only one, if a x4 weakness at that, main weakness, and a whole lot more coverage. Steel and Flying is more balanced, at having just two x2 weaknesses, and covers fair bit more. Steel, as a whole, even with losing resistance from Ghost and Dark, is still quite the nice type.
Water and Steel would be a better mix if Electric Ground and Fighting moves aren't so common these days :/
The main problem is still that Registeel lacks literally any recover except for REST and Leftover, which is... a bit too clunky...
You just don't have enough heals to continuously take bombardments.

Regice Can learn Aurora Veil to raise both defense and sp.defense And Regice can use thunder wave to Atleast slow down some pokemon. (Regice can recover some health with its hidden ability being Ice body)
But u need to setup a hail before even using aurora veil... so just Using a alolan ninetales would be better

It might not be a "cool" sig move, subjectively speaking and it doesn't sound that useful on paper due to its Ability, but Regigigas _has_ a sig move.

I'm dangerously slow on the uptake. I had no idea how screwed up weak the Ice type really is, and I learn it the hard way when my Vanillish line pokemon fails miserably so often.
I personally disagree with regice, registeel, and Articuno, at least in singles. As for in doubles, pretty every Pokémon on here except for Phione and Guzzlord I think is viable.

Dude articono is a very bad pokemon he lose 50% of his life if there is stealth rock on the field. He don't have a priority move, ice is a very bad defensive type. So he can't do anything and he's in PU.

#1 Regigigas, even more than its non-Legendary counterpart Slaking, is clearly designed for Double Battles.
Like Slaking, it's an Uber shackled by an anti-Ability that a partner can erase (and replace with a strong positive Ability using Entrainment starting in Gen 5), and Regigigas's moveset is suspiciously Doubles-oriented (can't learn Protect like 90% of Pokémon can, learns Wide Guard).
Autobot Starscream except like protect is the most common non offensive move in doubles

It’s terrible in Doubles too-lots of other options for defensive tech, and battles are even shorter, so you’ll never hit those five turns.
It had its one and only niche EVER in a Gen 6 Christmas-themed Wi-Fi tournament, which used triple battles and only allowed Pokémon classified as being red, green or white. There people did indeed use it for Wideguard, which was in short supply, but even within that it was kind of a niche choice.

I think you'll appreciate knowing in doubles, regigigas becomes an incredible pokemon next to anyone with Simple Beam. Simple beam gets rid of RG handicap , and turns powerup punch into a damaging sword's dance. Audino is my favorite because Audino can also heal regigigas and cure its status. I know your vid was about singles, but I still want to inform. :)

Really, Registeel? This is one of the best steel walls in the GAME! The reason why it's better than the other two is because steel is a defensive typing, one reason why other other two don't work is because of their types, 150 in both is nothing to sneeze at you know

Defenses mean nothing if it doesn't have reliable recovery
Registeel wouldn't be Uber, it would almost definitely be OU but things can still break through it in higher tiers, or just outstall it (it can't really touch Celesteela for example)

Great video! Very informative. Love Regigigas, so I am sorry to see him #1, but it is true that he is even worse than his progeny. The only way to use him competitively (in anything other than crap tier) is to use him in a double battle and have an ally get rid of his ability.

AltariaLover61 none of those moves are particularly great. The main reason registeel was on this list is because if it’s poor stats and inability to recover it’s health.

AltariaLover61 leftovers isn’t good enough though. It only replenishes 1/16 of health. And the rest of its move set is only average compared to other legendaries. Legendary Pokemon are supposed to be the best of the best.

I personally love regigigisfhdhdjdjd, it's speed halved is a big problem but high damage moves are very open to a regigigisfhdhdjdjd, like earthquake, and like weight using moves, cause he weighs I think 932.8
I play UU a lot, and even when I'm playing higher tiers like in Battle Tree, my Guzzlord is really good at tanking. If you run stockpile, it's got the ability to make itself last
if you have a way to neutralize regigigas' slow start, for example, with worry seed or gastro acid, you can tear some things apart with it. it's really only good in doubles where a partner can do something to it to cut off that ability.

I honestly really like Regigigas' design and backstory, so I try and make it work with skill swap in doubles lol.

I guess since I never really got much into competitive stylings (few close calls here and there, but nothing stuck), I always went more with type coverage and matchups. Swampert remains my absolute favorite Pokemon, for a few reasons: Water typing (#1); Electric negation (#2, really important for Water types to get past); Ice applicability (#3, messes with a lot more types, including the infamously deadly Grass quadruple weakness); mixed sweeping (#4, can either screw over on the Physical or Special side, though it is much better to be a Physical crasher).

No one ever uses Wailord, Blisey has like 100 sp.def, and chansey has the coverage of the single most broken item in the entire game, -lucky punch- eviolite.
wailord is garbage, blissey is outclassed and chansey gets a 1.5x modifier to both its defences, still giving it higher overall bulk then a lot of other pokemon

The only two issues I honestly find with Guzzlord are the 4x Fairy weakness (since it's still a very common attacking type) and its comparatively shallow movepool when stacked up to other Legendaries/UBs. Fix those, you have a quality UB.
Regigigas needs to loose slow start. It made sense then in gen 4 cause of its stats being too good for that time. But now we got mega who surpass that and z moves. Come on gamefreak. Regigigas has turned from forbidden monster to hindered joke

Regirock IS good, now that it has sturdy. I disagree with your placement of Regirock on this list. Sure, the Regis are generally weaker than a lot of Legendary pokemon, but Regirock can run Sturdy + Rock Polish + Weakness Policy, which is a solid set in RU. Also, Moltres is WAY worse than Articuno. Zapdos is good, Articuno is okay but suffers from its typing, and Moltres is just terrible. Having Articuno on this list and not Moltres is a mistake IMO.
Just don't run Articuno as a defensive mon, that's the trick. People look at its stats and think its a defensive pivot, but its actually a rain sweeper ;)
Josh Davis Moltres is a nuke. While it is possible to run an offensive set with Articuno, Moltres is faster and is one of the hardest hitting fire types in the game. Not to mention the fact that Articuno has almost no chance of beating it one on one
Its not just about who would win head to head. Moltres struggles to find any niche whatsoever. It's been outclassed by Charizard since gen 1, and now has to also compete with Talonflame in terms of typing, and its less useful than both. The only flying/ice type that Articuno has to compete with is Delibird, giving it a more viable niche in higher tiers that Moltres simply doesn't share. Its special attacking movepool is also lackluster, since Moltres can't decide whether it wants to be in the sun or the rain. And while Moltres may be faster, base 90 speed is still too slow to compete with the sea of base 100 pokemon without someone giving them Tailwind support, setting up agility, or holding a Choice Scarf. And Articuno actually learns Tailwind, which Moltres doesn't. Plus while Ice may be a poor defensive type, Flying/Ice actually has some defensive synergies, with Ice's Fighting weakness and Flying's Ice weaknesses being eliminated by the type.
See lots of Mega Moltres running around? When Moltres comes out do you have to guess what type it'll be and whether it'll be a physical or special threat? Didn't think so. And back in Gen 1 Charizard won out just because Charizard was faster, and speed is more important than special attack, especially when your special attack is still passable. Charizard was definitely worse in gens 3-5, but these days? No way.

For lower speed legendaries people usually have a psychic type with trick room so that Pokémon with lower speeds attack first

I used to run a competitive regigigas on smogon. I used new to increase speed attack and it's defenses with baton pass. once I set up I stalled with substitutes and drain punch. after 5 turns my opponent also quit because he became undefeatable at that point. back then baton pass into a baton passer wasn't banned an no one had roar or whirlwind so I could just set up. can't do that now though

I’m seeing comments about ice having too many weaknesses. Let’s not forget that grass has 5 weaknesses while ice only has 4 and I don’t see any complaints about grass having so many weaknesses.
Well yes but Grass at least resists 4 types: Grass, Water, Ground and Electric, while Ice only resists Ice.
Ice types should resist Ground,Grass,Fairy and water.
