  • This is the natural color of this untreated tanzanite. I go through how I facet this stone starting with free-form cutting and creating the cut as I go to fit the stone to save the stones size.

    The rough gemstone already has a beautiful finished piece within. It is the job of the cutter to bring it out.

    I LOVE ❤️ the shadowing with this color. Almost makes it look like leopard print 🐆 …a leopard print tanzanite necklace, can you imagine? Ugh! Jaws would drop.

    Ive been interested in faceting for a while. Im happy to have stumbled across your channel, you do a great job with your editing. It seems like most youtubers go far too in depth on the subject in every video. Yes i like the long detailed tutotials but sometimes i also love the asmr of seeing gems come out gorgeous. I look forward to checking out the rest of the videos!

    Well Wow! Fantastic Result! This polished Tanzanite feels like liquid, or rather, like a drop of Gold!

    That diesel color of Tanzanite is the most common before heat treatment. Also you should of cut out the fracture because someone will probably try to heat treat that gem to bring out the more highly valued purplish Tanzanite color. Tanzanite gems with fractures often break up during heat treatment.

      Thanks for the input! The person I cut the stone for specifically got it for that color. They don't plan to heat it.

      @@MattsCornerofGemCutting I saw a beautiful faceted natural black Tanzanite, it looked like black opal. The cutter did not want to treat it because it was so special as is, but he could not sell it, and may have to heat it. I wish I had the money to buy it, and keep it natural.

      That's a good point about the cracks and heating.
      I was curious if he was considering heating it myself but due to the cracks, it would be a risky venture. Besides, it is a great looking stone, with a nice, Natural colour.

      @@SnowTiger45 Yes it was cut nicely. Orange is common with Tanzanite but it also comes in many other colors like green, red, pink, yellow, etc ... I personally like the natural colors, over heat treating ...

    I thought it was illegal to export rough tanzanite from Tanzania. Pretty sure I saw an article going over this law. Unless this is not "tanzanite" but a zoisite from another locality?

    • @MattsCornerofGemCutting
      @MattsCornerofGemCutting  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In 2010 Tanzania banned export of rough over 1 gram. Smaller than that can still be exported. Though the client had me cut this piece they had, so I don't know the backstory of the stone.
