How I Facet this Bi-Color Lab Sapphire for Stunning Effect

In this video I show how to facet a gemstone with two colors. I recreate an artisan style cut that I have previously done in this pink and yellow lab sapphire. Using the American precision faceting meet-point technique, I transform this raw piece into a beautiful work of art!

Lab sapphire is man made sapphire. It has the same properties as natural sapphire, and it can cut beautiful pieces that are also durable for jewelry.

The fact that the Pink color reflects on the opposite Side, to me is fascinating. And my Gosh, you did a superb work on this 'new' stone and I'm happy to have watched this video! When you test a Lab created Stone, is it possible to mesure it with a Diamond tester?

Hey man why don’t you use wax when attaching the gem to the dob stick and why do you use super glue instead? I would think that when you transfer the gem in the transfer jig, the polished side that gets glued to the receiving side would get scratched. Love you channel and videos, good work!

Good equipment isn't cheap. You will get what you pay for. I've only used an Ultratec faceting machine which is pretty reliable, but they are one of the more expensive machines. Using cheaper topper laps for cutting and ultralaps for polish can save you some on start up equipment. If you want to do hard stones like sapphires, I would recommend getting a polishing lap like the Batt that you can use with diamond for the final polish. You mainly need a 600 grit for main cutting, 3k or 8k grit for prepolish, and your polishing laps. A heavier grit like 180 or 360 comes in handy for roughing in larger stones.

I'm not into jewellery or gem stones as such, and I only visit channels like yours rarely to see the transformation you can achieve from raw to polished stones. I however am interested in the way such stones are created, naturally or artificially, as a purely academic interest - and therefore I am very surprised to see a pink and goldish Sapphire! I always thought they were of the Bluish nature with probably some transition/variations with Violet.

This piece is a man made sapphire. It was created to have the two colors. Blue is the most commonly known color for sapphire, but sapphires actually come in a wide variety of colors naturally and sometimes have color zoning of different colors.

Yes! I usually keep around 8-12 stones dopped up at any given time that I can be working on.
