Do you need a vertical jump program to jump higher?? (Tips from a 5’8” dunker)

  • Although a vertical jump program can be really helpful, especially for those who have plateaued in results and can only start to benefit from a periodized training cycle, I don’t think they’re necessary. I like to give my opinion on things like jump programs and VKTRY insoles because I don’t make any money from sponsorships, and therefore I’m not financially incentivized to tell you something. (Btw I did a test on VKTRY insoles on a jump mat and out of 10 attempts I averaged a 44.1” without them and 43.7” with them. I don’t think they made me do worse, I just think the .4” difference is human error, however, they certainly don’t help and definitely not as much as they show in their ads. Typically in the ads, someone starts jumping and is handed the insoles, resulting in them jumping higher. However, if you do that exact same test without changing insoles, you will get the same results since you’re simply WARMING UP. If you go in cold you’ll notice your jumps get progressively higher in any context.)
That being said, I like to share my results since I do have a very good vertical, but don’t get paid to do sponsorships and say/promote different things like a lot of creators do. I also don’t think every creator is doing this, some of them are very selective and only use products they truly believe in.
Another side note, the best vertical jump program in the world, in my opinion, is Isaiah Rivera’s THP strength. It is very expensive, though, and many people who have never even tried to jump want to just hop in right away and do a super advanced program which isn’t really necessary. For a long time, you can get great results just by JUMPING, and doing 100% effort jumps. Once you start to plateau, you need to get better at certain aspects like speed-strength, pure strength, etc. one at a time in a periodized cycle to see improvement, so I would recommend waiting until then to invest.

How often should you have a max effort jump/dunk session?

the golden rule is 48 hours so if you do them every other day that works pretty well
