- One Indian product is taking the world by storm... and the only thing they’ve done is given it a fancy name...
With the rising trends in chemical free beauty and personal care, this natural product is going viral on Western social media as a natural deodorant.
It’s said to have no smell, is absolutely natural, and a piece of it can last you an entire year.
I’m talking about something you may have seen old school barbers use when you were kids...
It’s called potassium alum or the alum stone... in Hindi, known as the “fitkari”.
It’s selling as “Crystal Stone Deodorant” in the US and “Thai Crystal Stone Deodorant”.
Look it up on Amazon India, and you’ll find a couple of brands, selling 100 gms for almost Rs 2500/- that’s Rs 25000 per kilo.
But switch your search words to “fitkari” and you get it for as little as Rs 20 for 100 grams...
That’s a 125X jump in price only by changing the name and packaging it like a deo stick.
The Western market is going nuts about it saying its paraben free, all natural and while it doesn’t make you sweat less, it reduces the body odour from your under arms considerably.
As an aside, there’s also a fragrance called At The Barber’s by Maison Margiela that sells for Rs 13000 and claims to make you smell like a retro barbershop.
This is a crazy example of what right packaging, branding and social media hype can do to such common products.
Have you ever tried it? I have. Smells like when grandpa was younger.

My brother, who live in US sent me DRI stick, which is basically allum (phitakiri) I later realised this after reading the ingredients and it works like a charm in stopping sweat or odour it’s costed him $10

No one but we ourselves are responsible for this scam. We need the self confidence to stand up and call it out for what it is - A SCAM. Nothing but a scam. But people with lots of money would take pride in buying it.

Not surprised by this foreign brand because one time i was watching 'Food Factory' on Discovery where they were showing process of making snacks where their was a part they said "these are our secret ingredients which we can't reveal to you" when in reality they were 'Chakali'(in Marathi) 😂 which ever India make in their house especially during Diwali. This foreign brand were claiming the recipe as their own 🤡
I still use it after shave after having all the options for after shaves. natural is best.
