Good on ya Flint for being a better man. It's truly tragic, I mean i hated Eleanor but no one deserves that. I was also shocked at how bad I felt for Rodgers after what he did to Blackbeard. This episode helps you know more about yourself than you thought 😄
This episode was so great. So much to come BECAUSE of these particular events - and only in 4 episodes! Some epic scenes to come. I have been complaining quite consistently, and now we come to see the fallout of it - why it was important to understand Eleanor. Not to like her (bc I didn’t much, to be honest), but understand both her motivations and what she meant for Nassau. Her death is quite ominous for the series, when the first discussions on this episode came (on forums and reddit), fans shared a sense of “Nassau died”. Poignant. But oh well, you guys were so blind (hehe) abt the character that it was missed just this little bit of foreshadowing. And Flint and Eleanor have been consistently on the same side as well, with some divergence when it came to Vane (and later with Miranda’s death). Again it misses me why people get this confused.
We're really gonna need the full-length for the series finale, there will be so much to unpack. Only four episodes left, but these four episodes my friends...
Guys idk if you can keep saying Eleanor killed Vane. Like if he ended up where he was supposed to go, he wasn’t going to walk free lol. He’s a murderer and a pirate haha. She didn’t even pass sentence on him, she just accelerated the process. Like of the crimes Eleanor and Vane committed, Vane did a lot worse…
Some thing I like most about Black Sails is how they portray the women. They are not weak damsels in distress. When Eleanor betrayed Max she kept going on and turned her life around. When Eleanor (even though I hate her) had to deal with ruthless pirates she never backed down. When she got captured she managed to turn that around for herself as well. When Madi thought John died she kept fighting for the cause instead of breaking down. The only one who had a "weak" moment was Anne when Jack left her behind and it resulted in a murder instead of drowning in tears while staying in bed for days on end - the way modern women are portrayed in every f*ing show/movie. The reason why I point it out now is because John completely breaks down in this episode after she got the news about Madi. He couldn’t function anymore. Flint went mental for a time after Miranda died. And Rogers is already crazy to begin with. I don't say the men in this show are portrayed as weak but I like that for a change the women are the ones who are more stable emotionally.
Did not expect Eleanor and Madi to both go especially since Madi just started to grow on me haha! I loved her argument with Silver, really brought out a bit of her character and personality when before she was just really stoic, bland, boring a bit stupid and too “good”. I love this show for having the balls to kill characters. Everything has stakes. Mortal wounds are mortal wounds. It makes each blow have weight and you scared for where it might strike. If it was another show I’d worry about the lazy writing trope of a fake out death with Madi but I have too much faith in the writers of this one for that and I think this is the best for the story and Max and Silver are well suited for each other and makes more sense with what we know in the book about his wife and I just love the fact of them not being each’s first choice and probably being unhappy, that’s always far more interesting for characters and stories then content and boring. Sucks it happened just as Madi was finally growing on me a little after 10 episodes with her now haha but the worst thing you could do is bring her back at this point so I’m happy to move on and hopefully past the Nassau fixation too though then ig there might not really feel like there’s resolution to that so I assume it’s going to be there which is ok but I wanna get to pirating and treasure island stuff haha!
Since you have only a few more episodes left of this amazing show, I'm going to start pestering you guys to watch maybe one of the only shows I know that could replace it - HBO's The Leftovers. Based on one of my favorite novels and produced by Damon Lindelof from Lost (he learned from his previous shortcomings in Lost and created a show that is just as mysterious, if not more so, and miles more satisfying. Not only is this a great show to watch in general, it is maybe the perfect show for reactors to watch. Every episode is nuts; questions are posed and answers are sprinkled throughout the relatively short series (3 seasons, 28 episodes). I know regular season television like TWD and the CW shows are coming back this week, but with all due respect to them, this show is better than any of them

Sorry but I am petty and vindictive. Eleanor brought this upon herself. I felt nothing for her death. Flint should have absolutely told her her husband was the one that betrayed her and did this. That she was ultimately responsible for burning down her beloved Nassau.
Yeah I love this show for its consequences. The shit characters do matters. Vane’s a crazy pirate that takes what he wants, well people are gonna take things from him too. Kills Elanor’s father to get at her, she’s gonna get back at you too. Roger’s tries so hard to stop Spain from burning everything to the ground, then encourages it and his wife gets burnt. It’s good writing when things just keep logically spiralling and propelling things forward and it has the balls to kill characters. Apart from the one I’m mad at in the next ep. Stupid fake out deaths are the worst
