one of the many things i love about this show is how many minor or no named background characters get badass moments, the guy who jumped the barrier to go for the faulty cannon, the one guy who tried to get Eleanor when she was escaping on the cart, the guy who dragged Milton off Anne in this episode.
Enjoying Ricks thoughts throughout this series. Anne was the hero of heroes.. beastmode! Madi continues to be rock steady and insightful when dominance for power rages. Exceptional series.. I wish they'd do a movie like Firefly after it.
20:30 It's fair to be mad at Billy, but you're forgetting the stuff he did in Season 2 to save Flint's bacon: telling everyone that he was on the level to smooth over any remaining mutinous urges, kicking Dufresne off the crew, being the example that Flint used to convince Abigail that they were men and not monsters (which led to her stopping Ashe's bodyguard from killing him immediately), convincing Vane to rescue Flint and giving him Abigail's diary to make it work, and saving Silver's life just as Vane's quartermaster was about to kill him. If he'd never returned to the show, we would NOT be in a better place now. Flint would definitely be dead, and Silver might be as well.
You guys love this series as much as a us/me, but still underestimate characters like Eleanor and Rogers I guess. I get that you cheer/root for the pirates, but I think the series made a pretty good job of making everyone the hero of its own arc. Eleanor actually wants peace/a way out and pay Rogers’ debts - she’s done with Nassau. It misses me a little why she’s been talked abt as a villain, they are all antagonists to each other of course, but I couldn’t hate anyone in the end. Anne is no short of a ultimate badass, I was cringing in that scene hoping for everything for both her and Jack to live through.
She was a self righteous skank. There were many reasons I disliked her character. She was great for the show. She had reasons for her behavior. I find them more selfish and phony. For the most part. I still understand she was very good for the show.

They never take responsibility for their own fuck ups, instead it's everyone else's fault and the whole world is out to get them or go against their plans. They act like they are the only sensible people in the world and that men ruin everything for them when they are the conniving backstabbers betraying literally everyone if they think it will benefit them. Yes, every character is a selfish pirate out for their own goals but we see so many of the pirates teaming up for a cause and acknowledging and atoning for their fuck ups while those two blame everyone and whine about things not going their way.
Max is not as bad as Eleanor but I really couldn't stand her in the end. She was one of my favorites at the beginning. But I hate Eleanor more than any other fictional character.
Tbh I liked Madi and Anne less than I did with Eleanor and Max. Anne was just too savage, crude, brutal, stupid and violent for the first 2 seasons and I never enjoyed any time she was on screen at first. I loved when she grew softer though in seasons 3 and 4 and have ended up liking her in season 4 but still hold the first 2 seasons against her. She was also a hypocrite. Madi is just too bland, stoic and too “good” to be interesting and the show always portrayed her as in the right (at least as far as I’m up to as I haven’t finished it yet) which I just find boring. She was a good person but not a good character imo, never got what Silver saw in her or what she saw in him. She started to grow on me with her argument with Silver over Billy, I think she just needs more character or attitude. But it’s ironic you get to see more of the relationship and personalities shine through when there’s conflict and characters arguing and she definitely needs more of that. The whole relationship seemed forced and telegraphed to hell since season 3 just because we know 1 detail about who Silver marries in the book which I think should be Max because that fits better and hope it turns out that way still tbh though the writers have really screwed her and Eleanor over trying to make them worse than they seem. Meanwhile at least in the first 2 seasons Eleanor and Max were doing interesting complex stuff. Max though once she got to the top I don’t think the writers knew what to do with her which sort of has ruined the character for me especially with her fucking up now and siding against the pirates. I think she should be against Eleanor being a double agent on Silvers side but it seems like the writers are just forcefully pushing Madi to me. But Max owned up to screwing over Vane and made a real interesting and brutal choice to stick with him rather than be free though yeah part of it was an F u to Eleanor haha. Eleanor I always found interesting too but yeah she never really took responsibility I might have to agree with. But if we’re being honest looking at it through the objective lens not the narrative, she was probably in the right more times than not (apart from when she took Vanes captaincy that was an emotional decision which I didn’t like her for BUT I understood why and Vane’s crew were definitely not in the right). But saving the girl was right from Vane and Vane was a murderer and pirate, England was going to hang him no matter where. She accelerated it which sucks but it’s not like he would’ve walked free if she hadn’t and he killed her father and screwed with her efforts for years
