Hi Tony, I'm playing on "hearing" - as we say in Afrikaans: "op gehoor". I had a couple of piano lessons as a kid, performed playing on a keyboard later on - then for years didn't play and now it's on my bucket list to get a keyboard again - craving making music again. Is this PSR-E383 a good buy you would recommend to me? Also - is there a 76 keys one also in the same keyboard? Thank you for your beautiful tutorials... subscribed and Liked. Blessings from Bloemfontein South Africa.
I looked through the function list and it doesn't look like you can edit the amount of sustain (you can disable it if you want); so your only ability to control sustain would be with the pedal. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Thank you for the Barney Style introduction to the E383. The Yamaha owner's manual does not present the "how-to" portion in a simple or comprehensible manner. I bought my E383 on Black Friday at Guitar Center and it was an amazing deal ($179.99) but I'm already starting to learn what the keyboard DOES NOT DO that I want it to; maybe I should have bought a "MIDI Keyboard" but maybe your expertise can help. You suggested PSR-EW425 to another commenter as the "top-end of the PSR line" and I want a keyboard that can... Mix AND Master? Are there are other Yamaha keyboards or devices that can be paired with PSR-E383 that can still be easily transportable?
The PSR-E473/EW425 do have a 6 track MIDI recording functionality built in (I made a series of videos on recording with that - video 1 is here: th-cam.com/video/C_nvRQ-1ZOU/w-d-xo.html). But for decent editing, you really need to just do that on a computer with DAW software instead. Even the recording on the EW425 is ok but clunky and hard to use compared to a computer with GarageBand etc (where you can use a mouse, copy and paste etc). So if you want to record with much easier editing ability, you can connect the E383 to a device (iPad, computer etc) running DAW software; all keyboards nowadays can be used as MIDI controllers, so your 383 will send MIDI data of what you are playing to the DAW on your device, and then you can record as many tracks as you like and mix them easily. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

@@michaels.125 Hey no worries - Garageband is free if you have a Mac or an iPad, and I believe there are a few pretty decent free DAWs for pc as well if you google that. I did make a few videos on recording MIDI with the EW425 (finishes with me making a complete backing track with an intro etc) if you want to check those out.
Did you ever check out the review on the PSR-EW425? It's also 76 keys, and it's the top end model in the E-Series (left and right line outs, gigantic speakers, 6 track sequencer)
Yamaha psr-e383 Autochord / smart chord in styles accompaniment. Can I play melody on right hand only and the keyboard will change chord according to melody ? If not psr-e383 then which keyboard has this function ?
With autochord, the keyboard changes chords automatically (for whatever chord progression it is set to; it has nothing to do with what you play in the right hand). For smart chord or multi finger, you need to use your left hand to trigger chord changes, it won't detect them from the right hand melody. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@@quankhu2255 There are lots of arranger keyboards out there (Roland, Casio, Yamaha DGX) that have a "full keyboard chord detection" mode that will look at the entire keyboard instead of just the left half to detect chords, but that still won't trigger chord changes from a melody. You still need to play a full chord.
Well done! What I'm trying to figure out is...when I am playing a song, can I turn off the melody? I've only had it for a few weeks but whenever you play a song the keyboard automatically adds the melody and when I'm playing a different variation it sounds cacophonous. Trying to find a style that works can be tedious due to the sheer number available.
Thanks! I never use the built in songs myself, but I do see function 22 is "Song Melody Voice" - I'm assuming you can choose what voice you want the song melody to play in, you might want to start there (maybe there's a voice that won't stand out with what you're playing?). Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
Yeah, I've fiddled with that a bit, but no joy. You would think that if they can give an option to change voices they would have an option for no voices at all. Just one of those inexplicable quirks that every Yamaha has. Different for every keyboard but always there. I am always on the threshold of subscribing to your channel but then I hear you playing what sounds like the Beatles and that is like nails on a chalkboard to me and I just can't click the button. LOL! You've got great content though and I always try to remember to give a 👍 (even despite the Beatles)

For recording a user song, can you play the keys while your recording is being played? Also, does this keyboard have a transpose option?
press function button and the first setting is Transpose

Do you know which keyboard has this function ? Auto accompaniment, the chord change according to melody on right hand, so free left hand.
