Just starting tonreplace the oads on my 2001 ML320. Using Bosch BP760 - one of my current pads had the friction mayerial break in half and fall off. Like you, have only owned mine for a few months.

I just had brakes and rotors done on my 2000 ML 430, it sounds like a train pulling in when I stop. The place I brought it to recommended calipers now. Have you experienced such before? Thank you in advance.

@VictoriasAngels do the brakes make a screeching sound under braking? Or does your ML struggle with acceleration?
Metal noise most likely is lack of brake grease on the shims and 99% of the times you wouldn't need the calipers replaced but if your SUV bogs down upon acceleration then it could be a sticky caliper, in that case you will need a rebuild or a replacement.
