ABOUT Press release of the concert
Erykah Badu released her debut album Baduizm twenty years ago and neo-soul was born. The ease with which she forged together elements from soul, jazz and hip hop on that recording marked the beginning of a new soul movement and it continues to inspire artists today. Badu now has four albums and two Grammys to her name and she has performed several times at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Due to her spiritualism and striking appearance, Badu has been hailed ‘the high priestess of neo-soul’. But high priestess or not, she is definitely a fabulous singer who hypnotizes audiences with her sensual laid-back timing and enchanting vulnerability coupled with enormous power. Badu uses all this to make every performance unforgettable. She is also an artist who continues to be innovative. For her latest project, a mixtape called But You Caint Use My Phone, Badu drew inspiration from her experiences with her cell phone.

you guys unearthing badu and d'angelo sets is a gift to humankind
She is one of the few new artists that understands conceptually real music. Her level of creativity is off the charts!
New Artist??? Baduism dropped in 1997.
Erykah has been stuck in a box. That’s why she sings the same old tired hit songs year after year, with no new fresh innovative albums. Very telling. And you’ve never seen her collab with any real jazz legendary musicians like Herbie Hancock because she CANNOT read music nor play any real instrument and only comfortable with her music.
@@Eastpointe ummm she just got off tour this year. There’s so many artists that haven’t put out new music & still rocken shows with their known songs or classics. Next she’s a singer that’s her voice. Erykah is a also a dope ass DJ. So nah can’t agree with what you saying.
@@ngomanumu, correct she’s touring etc, I never denied her talent in anyway. In my opinion she’s remained in a box and I’ve watched her career over the decades. She’s never stepped outside of her comfort to challenge herself musically. Like Ledisi and Lala Hathaway have in their careers.
@@ngomanumu, yes Erykah is a dope DJ, and a naturally gifted singer. Can’t take that away from her. No she can’t read music or play any real instruments, she’s admitted that herself.
PHENOMENAL!! Such control of her instrument. How can you not groove to this? There’s only one Badu!

Thx for your time keys….
NSJ just sitting on loads of archive material (Miles, David Sanborn, George Duke the list goes on) & not really pulling their finger out when they publish.
It used to be one of the best jazzfestivals, not sure if it still is.
@@honeybozo No problem! There's so much good stuff I'm waiting for too. I'd pay more attention if I lived in Europe but pretty sure the lineups they get now are still super stacked
This gig was extraordinary though -even if NSJ clearly cut it off at the end…..
Track Five is Track Six.
Erykhah is such a unique creature, physically, mentally and musically.... 👍
Y'all peep Durand Bernarr on the background vocals? 👀🔥🙌🏽
In every concert of hers, i just adore the intros!! This N. Sea Jazz Festival concert in you tube from 2001, or 2004...i forget, that intro is the bomb! 3 backup singers sing a verse abt 'were gonna take you to another world, but we just sing background so you have to wait one minute for Badu" 😊
: That was NSJF 2001 . In my opinion, that was her best NSJF show .
#11 was my favorite!!!
beste
