Erykah is literally an embodied corpus of aesthetic knowledge and black music: funk, jazz, soul, blues, hip hop, etc (all of which emanate from the same form of sacred expression). The categories of creative, cultural worker, theorist, vocalist/musician, and storyteller converge at her art. She knows no bounds. Blessed be Queen Badu.

1. I did not expect her to sound that good out the gate! 2. Her starting with Rim Shot slapped me all the way back in time and had me playing the whole first album! 3. She is still as beautiful as she was 20 years ago!
"Green Eyes" still makes me feel a dull but persistent ache in the lower chambers of my heart. When it originally released I had just suffered my first heartbreak. This song helped me acknowledge those feelings, understand that they did not make me a lesser man for feeling them, and helped me move on by holding on to what was good in that failed relationship. Thank you Erykah.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one that felt like this so what I did was that I google some of the charities that she supports and I donated to them what I thought I would’ve paid
Demons do that. Especially since she drinks Adrenochrome, which is babies blood. Soon all will know that satan has a strong hold on people who sold their souls. Prison is coming up for Badu and Jill, both are going down the drain of satan worshippers. It's the time of the great Awakening. It's the time of transparency, all of the darkness will be exposed. Badu's time is up.
I fall into depressive episodes weekly. The past few weeks haven’t been easy. A lot has happened. I’m so grateful for this channel for creating a space of love and peace even if it’s just for a few minutes. It means the world. Whenever I feel down I find myself back here. My safe haven.
I relate to this very strongly. I hope on your low days you can find at least ONE thing that makes you happy. You can wait for the storm to pass, or you can become the storm, a force of nature, surviving despite yourself. All the best to you, stranger.

Mama Badu is a blessing to the universe. I was a kid when " Baduizm " came out and it blew my 9 year old mind to bits. 21 years later now i' m reaching 30 with the same energy if not more...indeed
Petr I definitely got introduced to erykah badu as a child too and she's one of my favorite artists into adulthood. Kids are allowed to enjoy and be effected by music too, bruh, don't be an asshole
The flyest chic on the planet....her voice, style and swagger is so pure and organic...I love me some Queen Badu. 1.7K musically ignorant lost youtubers that don't recognize or appreciate real musicians.
When I dislike some video it's just because it causes some kind of discomfort and sometimes it makes me angry... Believe me, it hasn't happened for me more than 10 times since the birth of TH-cam. Generally when I don't like a video of a song, tutorial, or anything else, I just stop watching it and go past it. When I see people disliking a compilation like this one or any other artist's work, I get that there are lots and lost of crazy people in the whole world just looking for attention. And to think we, the normal people are unfortunately surrounded by those assholes...
yesterday I experienced my first Erykah Badu show. in São Paulo. wow! strong, firm, light, soft, psychedelic, transcendental. I cried so hard, laughed so hard. how touched Im now I can't even say. I can't believe I experienced this. despite the difficulties along the way, due to the fact that the concert hall is not fully prepared to receive people with disabilities pfff. But she sang "hold on, my people" and we held. I came back here to this video today trying to assimilate yesterday's experience. gosh... FAITH!!!!! thank you, Badu. Thank you. and thank you to the band!!! crazy
When I was a kid, I would skip past this song because I thought the beginning sounded so “corny”. One days years later I just let the album play and I was hit in the gut with the music and lyrics and since then have consistently had it on repeat. Thank God for growth. I so love Badu
SAME, except that was me 3 weeks ago. Badu recently clicked for me, and I never noticed the twist at the end of the intro, and it really moved me when I first noticed. Mama's Gun is incredible.
Damn, the complexity of the second song.. light and funny as in the "mask" she puts in to front that she's not jealous and hurt, then the sudden switch to those chords - just hits you on the gut. I hope this woman lives to 100
It was definitely my most intoxicating song. Waiting for her second album was heavy. When she finally released Mamma's Gun I was again reborn. Love this woman strong.
@@merlinmediagroup she's been making more appearances regularly. She went to see Drake not too long ago, also made a new song for Wrinkle in Time "Flower of the Universe" and she still sounds and looks exactly the same. Fans went crazy for it and if she did Tiny Desk I have no doubt it will easily hit millions of views in the first week.
Meeting Drake means nothing - her son is a fan, that's how that happened. She released one song in eight years, so what? She almost never gives interviews, so I promise you she is almost never going to do a Tiny Desk.
I've been waiting my whole life to see a HIGH DEFINITION live version of "Green Eyes." Shout out to the original SOULQUARIAN CREW circa 2000 for committing "Mama's Gun" to tape. *lovelovelovelove*
I sent this to a friend who then watched it at work - boss walked in & instead of telling her off he sat & watched it with her. They literally bonded over this beautiful music & creative energy! 😻
THAT PERCUSSION.... Thank God Badu or Jill Scott never abandoned the percussion in each band. It makes such a difference in the sound. I can't even describe how genius green eyes lyrics are. Badu is beyond our world and our understanding. What a woman!!!
When Erykah talks or signs the vibe she puts out is so smooth and relaxing. The coolness this amazing artist has is like no other. Her jazzyness and poetic sounds puts you in an amazing tranz is crazy. Love 💕 her music and how it takes me back in time. Thanks Erykah B.
Oh how I wish Badu and Andre would have stayed together so we could have the insane power couple the world needed. They would have looked insane, and beautiful all at the same time.
First off, this is amazing, but also, who the hell is the witch doctor mixing the audio? Damn conga kept sounding like it was in my damn room, kept checking who was knocking on the door among everything else that's right with the audio. Please give that person a cookie! *EDIT:* Derp, he's in the credits. Josh Rogosin. Josh, you are a legend, and also, NPR, you are a global treasure.
Props to the ENTIRE NPR production crew, but don't forget the videographer as well, always beautiful. Audio production sounds like pristine virgin vinyl to me, always a treat.
My God she is amazing. Everything here is magic. The cats behind her giving her a cloud and she just takes it higher and higher. So fun to revisit this.

LADY K nah. It’s tons of artist that sound like their actual songs. Step outside main stream beloved
So true! voice is amazing
Evening commute tho
LADY K you leave great comments! Just liked your comment on the nicki vs cardi b video! :)
G Marm Thanks 😊😘
Her musicians are amazing. I could listen to them play for her all day.
On Point, They Are Indeed And Sounds Amazing ❤💖❤💖
I Can see & Hear Me Singing With Eryka & Them
Absolutely !
Green Eyes has aged so beautifully. I was in tears watching. MASTERPIECE!
1. I did not expect her to sound that good out the gate!
2. Her starting with Rim Shot slapped me all the way back in time and had me playing the whole first album!
3. She is still as beautiful as she was 20 years ago!
She is very beautiful... I doubt that she is human.
Yess Rim Shot got me like WHAAAT go head girl. I love her music
🙌
AGREED on all counts. That first sound bitch slapped me with silky smooth pleasure.
Has it been 20 years🤤...takes me back to a beautiful part of my life...young love 💔
Thank you Erykah.
thank you for admitting that. helps me understand compassion.
Exact same feelings here
Honestly feel like I should’ve paid good money to see this...
Me too I feel u on that one
Same. Feel like I'm at an exclusive concert in a rooftop lounge on a beautiful summer night staring at the stars.
Accurate!
I’m glad that I’m not the only one that felt like this so what I did was that I google some of the charities that she supports and I donated to them what I thought I would’ve paid
i felt you
Erykah Badu is the most gorgeous woman on earth, and I hope she’s living her very best life.
Badu is an alien that our planet is lucky to have
Can we just talk about this whole performance , how comfortable she is , that’s stage presence is 🔥 af !!
Badu isn’t human. That was sonically perfect.
Pretty sure making music like that means you are most definitely human.
smh thers always this guy ↑
It wasnt sonically perfect in the slightest lmao thats part of what makes it more heartfelt
I fall into depressive episodes weekly. The past few weeks haven’t been easy. A lot has happened. I’m so grateful for this channel for creating a space of love and peace even if it’s just for a few minutes. It means the world. Whenever I feel down I find myself back here. My safe haven.
hang on, everything passes :) hugs
I relate to this very strongly. I hope on your low days you can find at least ONE thing that makes you happy. You can wait for the storm to pass, or you can become the storm, a force of nature, surviving despite yourself. All the best to you, stranger.
Hugs to all of you ❤
Hope your great 😊❤
Her voice live sounds crisper than the recorded version. She never stop touring. A true wonder 🙏🏾
Green eyes is one of the most painful yet beautiful songs at the same time.
Facts
I listen to this set frequently. She’s amazing.
same 🙂
2 or 3 times per week, precisely speaking...
Absolutely. 🤗
Same... and you are absolutely correct: AMAZING
I watched it when it was first released and haven't stopped even into '23
This performance got me through a rough time in my life in 2023. I was evicted, homeless. Listening to this everyday gave me strength to deal with it
rimshot 1:25

movement 2 (acceptance) 5:28
movement 3 (the relapse) 9:31
Just discovered the difference of the "movements" 😂
@@willarroz6703 yes! if you buy physical copies of mama’s gun, the lyric booklet will show the three different movements🤲
omg what are those three different movements?🧐
🙏🙏thank you currently on the journey of discovering more music
@@matteatane Does it say more about the different movements? I'm doing an English essay on green eyes, but its quite hard finding anything about the movements so could really any some help !💐💐
Someone in the audience said "wow" at the end of Green Eyes. I would say that perfectly summed up that entire performance.
She ain't a person, she's a presence 👏👏👏

I been xcited since she started the aka play n namin the crew ☆☆☺

Mama Badu is a blessing to the universe. I was a kid when " Baduizm " came out and it blew my 9 year old mind to bits. 21 years later now i' m reaching 30 with the same energy if not more...indeed

Yesss
A 9 year old would get jack shit out of an erykah badu record, not sure what you're on about
Petr I definitely got introduced to erykah badu as a child too and she's one of my favorite artists into adulthood. Kids are allowed to enjoy and be effected by music too, bruh, don't be an asshole
Ditto!
I love when an artist sounds in person how they do on cd. Nothing like the real unfiltered thing
FREE WILL DEFENDER she sounds better in person then on the cd 😍
Yes, live and unfiltered.🎹🎻🎼
@@niyahnova Co-Sign! She's f'n dope live!
Me too
Tell me about it me too.
The flyest chic on the planet....her voice, style and swagger is so pure and organic...I love me some Queen Badu. 1.7K musically ignorant lost youtubers that don't recognize or appreciate real musicians.
True story
I’ve been a fan since high school 💛 Badu
I've had love at first sight and sound sence day1.
@@martinizaguirre 👏👏😂😂
yesterday I experienced my first Erykah Badu show. in São Paulo. wow! strong, firm, light, soft, psychedelic, transcendental. Thank you. and thank you to the band!!! crazy
My 2 year old loves this . Everytime we get in the car “daddy I want Badu I want Badu ?” . Okay baby
He/She may be a Jazz musican when grown up.
if my kid isnt like this, i dont want it

When I was a kid, I would skip past this song because I thought the beginning sounded so “corny”. One days years later I just let the album play and I was hit in the gut with the music and lyrics and since then have consistently had it on repeat. Thank God for growth. I so love Badu
Which song? Green eyes? Lol
Nonu Frenz yes Green Eyes. I couldn’t get past the first segment of the song. I had kiddy ears 🤷🏾♂️
Lol. Yes, thank u God for our continued growth.
Yes, this song goes through so many levels of emotions.....geese louise, one of my favs by her.....
SAME, except that was me 3 weeks ago. Badu recently clicked for me, and I never noticed the twist at the end of the intro, and it really moved me when I first noticed. Mama's Gun is incredible.
Listen. First Tower Of Power now Queen Badu. Whoever is booking the artist on the NPR Tiny Desk need a raise and a free meal at Ruth Chris!!!
Hey man, she's so elegantly surfing on the notes, love it
She’s not of this world. That’s why she is so captivating
Yeah, demonic...

@@garyaugustus1009 hey is it true ?
Str8 👽... 😍😍😍
I agree. She’s otherworldly.
This is, aesthetically speaking, the coolest form I've witnessed her in.
Erykah Badu: "This isn't even my final form"
She is extremely talented and original and very pretty
I am so in love with her lol **girl crush**
✌™
It's really great, for sure...but this is still my all-time favorite live performance of hers. Soooo good! th-cam.com/video/yDTmwuWZpKI/w-d-xo.html
Queen Badu doesn'tt age physically and neither does her voice or talent.
First second she began her performance i knew its gonna be gold.
Damn, the complexity of the second song.. light and funny as in the "mask" she puts in to front that she's not jealous and hurt, then the sudden switch to those chords - just hits you on the gut. I hope this woman lives to 100
It's on the "Mama's Gun" album :)
It was definitely my most intoxicating song. Waiting for her second album was heavy. When she finally released Mamma's Gun I was again reborn. Love this woman strong.
PLEASE HAVE SADE on TINY DESK! I will die happy if you have the beautiful talented Sade on. please please please make this happen.
Highly doubt that will ever happen, unfortunately. She's far too reclusive.
That’s a beautiful dream
Meeting Drake means nothing - her son is a fan, that's how that happened. She released one song in eight years, so what? She almost never gives interviews, so I promise you she is almost never going to do a Tiny Desk.
@@merlinmediagroup not with that attitude. When she does, you don't get to watch.
I've been waiting my whole life to see a HIGH DEFINITION live version of "Green Eyes."
Shout out to the original SOULQUARIAN CREW circa 2000 for committing "Mama's Gun" to tape.
*lovelovelovelove*
i saw it live in HOUSTON
Same. I thought i was the only one. Hands down one of her best songs!
I'm obsessed by Eryka's voice and those musicians, wow!! What a perfect musical ensemble. So powerful.
She sounds better than ever.
I sent this to a friend who then watched it at work - boss walked in & instead of telling her off he sat & watched it with her. They literally bonded over this beautiful music & creative energy! 😻
That's a beautiful story of bosses and workers bonding. Glad you shared!
THAT PERCUSSION....
Thank God Badu or Jill Scott never abandoned the percussion in each band. It makes such a difference in the sound.
I can't even describe how genius green eyes lyrics are.
Badu is beyond our world and our understanding. What a woman!!!
Always loved her music since the late 90's! :)
THAT TRUMPET THO.....................
The bass, the piano
Good God almighty.

But this song would never exist
Can you believe how badass it is that their son gets to tell people his mom is Erykah Badu and his dad is Andre 3000

The mix is usually bulls-eye on NPR Tiny desk. Love it!
