Thank you for your kind words Earl!! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The youtube channel is all finished for now but I do have a new podcast called Reuben Recommends if you fancy checking that out! :D X
Yeah it really is. If we think about the aim of listening for the other person to feel heard and understood, we should try our best to align what we say back to how they are feeling. Love your channel name by the way.
Yeah empathy is such a key component that is often missed. Not just, 'yeah but' responses, or 'yeah and.' but instead taking the time to acknowledge what has been said and how that must make the person feel.
You bring up an excellent point...our discomfort when people are feeling bad and being able to sit in that. I'm bad for that because I want to encourage people so much to help them navigate out of that. Not immediately but it makes me ask myself if a part of the reason is because i don't like the negative vibe. Love your content Reuben, cheers!
What you say resonates with me so much! In those moments of praising them, we just got ask ourselves, who is this comment for? Also, what this makes me think is, a simple way of looking at it is, we should be thinking to ourselves 'what is the feeling beneath what they are saying?', then we should try and match that feeling. If we go to the opposite of that feeling, they won't feel like we are understanding them. I'm so glad you enjoy the content Nisreen! Thoroughly enjoyed your catering video this week. That definitely resonated!
Listening is so so important! as a physician assistant I found that when I focused on listening I really was able to best help my patients. Now as an entrepreneur when I can listen to the real needs of my clients I can best serve.
Yeah absolutely! Listening should be the foundation for solution selling, which is client focused. If we bring it back to how people are feeling, not just what they are saying, they will feel heard, understood and like you are truly interested in them!
Hey Jack, that's made me feel so happy to know that the videos have been helpful for you guys! I finished with the channel a while ago, so it's really lovely to know that the content is still being seen and is useful. Thank you for letting me know and I'm always here if you guys have any questions X
You and your father are incredible examples of great listeners !! My childhood of being around a big extended family with a lot of people who didn’t deeply listen to and talked over each other means that I feel such gratitude in the balm and connection of good listeners and inspires me to listen more fully myself so thanks to you for this wonderful guidance
Thank you Siobhan! It's been a huge lesson for me as well doing this training. I used to do so much talking in conversations and when with lots of friends. Still very much on the journey, but these skills have really helped me take pride in listening better. Thanks for sharing Xx
Hey mate…it is a very interesting topic...it did all change for me when I got married. To not have the option of leaving does really help..great topic. Thanks for sharing …Big Like 35 Mate🙂
100% agree with naming the pain. When we do our brain reduces any negative feelings we are having. Have you checked out the Masterclass with Chris Voss? Essential watching for communication skills like that.
I like to ask relevant questions (when appropriate). Also learning to control the urge to share your story when someone is processing... timing is everything!
'Two ears, one mouth'. Genius. I shall be remembering that phrase. Listening is such a skill. Thank you for helping us to see where we can improve in different areas of communication and connection. Every video you make is helpful!
This is such a great video & so helpful. That question you asked was perfect & helped your friend to work it out for himself. Listening empathetically without jumping in to try to make the person feel better is such a skill. Getting better with practice :)
hahaha thanks so much! Yeah I'm planning on doing a video on how to give and receive thank you's, learned from NVC. What an incredible model! Thank you so much for engaging with the video, means a lot.
Thank you so much Lars!! Really glad you enjoyed the video!! I've finished with the youtube channel for now, but I've moved over to podcasts. It's called Reuben Recommends. If you'd like to know any more there is a trailer on there for it. You can find it on any podcast service x
Hey Lulu, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the video! Yeah empathy can be a hard one but it's very much a skill, so it can drastically improve with just a bit of effort. Have you watched any non-violent communication before? That would be my go to! If you watch this, you'll take a very large step forward. th-cam.com/video/l7TONauJGfc/w-d-xo.html Also, to let you know. I'm not making youtube videos anymore but I've swapped to podcasts. Wow I love that! So so true! I wonder why so many people believe they are bad at public speaking and great at listening as a default. I believe that public speaking is a real skill, but also learning to listen properly, that is currently taking me 4 years of qualified training to do it properly!
What listening skill do you find most useful in your life?
Happiness and Wealth Success 🙌.
Great Watch looking forward for next update
my friend

This is so true so many ppl try to make someone feel better instead of actually listening and understanding their true pain

the detail in this video! thanks so much for sharing Reuben
I'm so glad to hear that you saw detail, as this was a new style where I was more free flowing.
Love listening with empathy! It allows to understand person!

The skill of listening is so under rated and under used. Really enjoyed the video.
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Definitely underrated for sure!

Listening is so important and we do way too little of it. You have given some helpful tips for doing it gracefully.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
These videos have been so helpful with helping my girlfriend through anxiety. Thank you 🙏

Haha love that! Thanks for watching again Nathan!
Oh wow... learning to listen effectively is so important! I love your phrase: two ears one mouth (!!)
Yeah properly powerful for sure! Glad you enjoyed it Lara!
This is really great advice. Especially when we listen, acknowledge and name the pain vs trying to fix, soothe, or dismiss.

Yeah good open questions can be really key in flowing conversations.
I love this! Definitely need to apply alot of what I've learnt from this video. Good job, Reuben! 😎

It’s hard to not stage-hog and share OUR story while listening. Thanks for these great tips. 🙏🏽
Thank you Tanya! My pleasure!
Valuable message Reuben. Sitting with people's pain is a powerful exercise that many of us have avoided at some point (myself included).
Yeah it's a hard one but so valuable for sure!
It’s awesome when you have a convo with someone and they actually listen! So sorry I haven’t gotten back to you on the collab I’ll get to that soon!
Haha that is a good time! No worries man. I know there is a lot going on. Lets do it though! Did I send you the list of video ideas for collabs?
This is such a great video & so helpful. That question you asked was perfect & helped your friend to work it out for himself. Listening empathetically without jumping in to try to make the person feel better is such a skill. Getting better with practice :)

This skill is also important if you're selling something. Those who listen sell more from my experiences.
Yeah I totally agree! Thank you for getting involved Will
Now we're talking! Ehm, listening.. haha.. Great work, hope to see more nvc examples!

Great Rueben. Very powerful! Much is made of teaching how to speak in public. How about teaching how to listen in Private!

Reuben, is this video, with comments and ability to reply, set up in your you tube channel?
I'm sorry I'm not 100% sure if I understand the question?
I've never set up a TH-cam video with comments and reply. How did you do it. Hope that's clear.
It should be set so that that is allowed automatically.
