I walk and furniture walk in my home. Recently I have started to use a cane when I feel dizzy. I mostly use a mobility scooter when I go out except on good days. I don't have MS, but ME/CFS, but I find a lot of your advice is helpful with my issues. Thank you! If you know anyone who treats my condition as a physical therapist, please encourage them to make videos. It would be so nice to have someone who really understands the complications of ME/CFS and Long Covid who encourages using aids to make life more bearable.
I'm so happy to hear that this content is helpful for you! At this time, I do not know of someone to recommend, but I appreciate your continued support!
Have had MS for years, 73 now, so wall /furniture walking so I didn't use my cane in home. Outside I always used my cane only I think. Now since knee surgery and put in nursing home for rehab for 2 months. Walked in but couldn't walk out. Now learning to walk again with walker. Enjoy your videos and got your book. You are helping me so much especially since insurance has delayed continuing my PT.
I'm so happy to hear that the content shared here, as well as in the book, is proving to be helpful in your recovery from knee surgery and beyond! You got this!!
If you wonder weather you furniture hop or wall walk. Look at your door trim. If you see hand prints and grease marks. You wall walk. I didn't realize how bad I was till I was scrubbing the paint. I have been getting out of the habit. My trim looks better.😃
🦋 I have lhermittes along with migraine issues 🦋 when I have electric jolts I have blinding lights in eyes so I either hold wall or stand still until I can see.
Using a wall or furniture when that happens is important! However, this is referring to wall or furniture touching at all times while moving throughout your home or building☺️
I have done that for at least the past 10 years maybe 15 I diagnosed myself 21 years ago. My balance has been bad for a very long time. Numbness and tingling where first symptoms. I did fall during 20/20 due to balance and my arm never healed properly. Now I am even worse than before my break.
Avoiding crowds and wall walking is safe and best ( doing it since past five years after diagnosed with brain tb). I find exercise doesn't help very much. But thanks for your encouraging videos.
I literally practice getting around by feel in case I go blind. I don't know when it started but I've done it most of my life. At night, I leave the lights off for the same reason. I've always felt safer at night, due to a violent ages 1-20 years
Excellent video! I have been working with a MSCS in weekly hour per week at their gym. Everything you describe holding wall waking especially at night, waking wp at night to go to the bathroom. Or bringing something upstairs on down. I use my elbows to stabilize myself because my hand(s) with something on them. Thank you for sharing!
Luv your content! Two things… I have been working the gluteus medius and I’m so much more stable. I saw a video where they showed babies walking without falling after they gave them something to hold in both hands. I tried it and it helped.
❤ I. Used to do this, a lot and my wife kept making comments for me to stop and I actually have. I use my rolling locker and the wheelchair sometimes to get to where I'm going a little bit above. I've gotten good at switching.
I wall walk when I reach the top corner of my street and see the pavement going unevenly towards the right. I tell myself every time that I should ignore that it is uneven and try to walk away from the wall but my timidity gets the better of me. I also fence walk at a corner if I have been descending down my street - I don't seem to fence walk the same corner as often if ascending. This tells me that it is insecurity with my balance and to try the exercises mentioned in my home.
I have numbness in my left leg. My foot "stops" not drops. Doesn't move while attempting to walk. Wall walking to catch from falling. Will try balancing exercises
Guilty as charged! My balance has been more than out of whack lately since I've been fighting off this sickness/virus I contracted last week. My symptoms are going crazy right now!😮
Hello, I use a standing walker for a majority of my getting around the house. My husband helps me walk every afternoon and we go from the living room to the kitchen and then to the bathroom. I use a Hemi walker and a gait belt when him and I walk . I want to eventually get away from the standing walker.
I have both foot drop and fixation in L3,L4,L5 and S1 so i cN't walk without support like stick or by somone ,so what is the solution for me to walk properly and also i have scoliosis S shaped
It would be best to get evaluated by a physical therapist so they can see which muscles are weak, which are tight, and best exercises for your specific body and conditions
What if I use a crutch and FES for my foot drop but it doesn't make me feel safe while walking outside? I've got serious vertigo and crossing a street and looking both ways for emerging cars makes me extra unstable :(
Great question - I actually have some exercises for vertigo on my page that you might find helpful! If you use the Search option (magnifying glass) and type in "vertigo" they will pop right up!☺️
Good video , but to maintain interest & the main reason for watching the video you need to demo some of the key exercises, not refer to other videos or lists - trust this is helpful feedback 😊
Thank you for your feedback, but as this was a podcast recording (ie. not originally a visual learning tool) demonstrating wouldn't have given the intended effect. However, there are many other videos on my page where demonstration is included! I hope you enjoy them!
I know that thought, but it's the worst thing to do. You must keep moving as much as you can to keep muscles strong as possible. It's not just for physical, but mentally you will feel better. Even if you do only a little, as much as you can. Write down you're accomplishments at the end of the day, even if all you did was a little of whatever. Whether it's exercise a bit, a short bath, brushed your hair, walked to get your mail, washed a few dishes, whatever; it Counts-- because YOU did it! Keep the faith, keep moving as much as you can. Plus there are other things you can do; read a book, play a game, do a puzzle, maybe colorbook. Good luck! And Never give up!
My balance is so off. A definite wall walker here
Me, too
Same here👋
You're definitely not alone!
This is 100% me. I am definitely a wall walker.
You are definitely not alone!
Another challenge is hugging hello and goodbye.

Or crawl, since I live alone, just want to be safe. Last year cracked rib. Just turning around slowly in kitchen. Couldnt grab counter in time.

I like the turning head whilst walking exercise 😊✌️

Wish I didn't have to touch walls and furniture to get around but do 😅
You're definitely not alone in that!
I use walls or furniture if I can't use my rollator. And I was always aware I was a wall/furniture before the rollator. Alas.
I now notice that I feel very vulnerable walking in open spaces and am safer walking along perimeters even with the rollator.
Thank you for sharing! I hope that the tips and strategies shared can help you feel more stable and secure in your walking!
It's better then ending up in A&E touching the wall,a stick is no good for balance.
All of this describes me!!!
I am wall walker too. How to get rid of this ????
I’d rather be a wall or furniture walker than someone who looses balance, falls and hurts themselves badly.
I have to use a cane and my semi to walk so I don't fall over... wish there was a cure for all this. 🧡
I appreciate you sharing! You are definitely not alone.
M.S. "wall surfer" for 2 decades now.
In my home I am a wall and furniture walker. When I am at work or put in public I use my cane
I hope you found this video resourceful☺️
Definitely wall-walking for lack of balance and strength. Dx'd almost 40 years ago.
