I can picture of Sandy getting more energy back from his regenerative braking system due to the fact that you also might get better aerodynamic abilities trailing other cars...
People may note their gps coordinates on the x and y, but they rarely look at their z coordinates. If you have a downhill trip, that would be the only thing. I mean, you can't have a perpetual motion machine. lol
Elon was right: Tesla dug its own grave with CT. Unfortunately, less ability to modify the design, bring down materials and manufacturing costs relative to peer trucks. But nonetheless an interesting design and manufacturing achievement, even if it's unlikely to yield financial success
Thanks for the shout out! We really enjoyed working on that Cybertruck. For those that are curious. It is wrapped in a tinted Paint Protection Film vs vinyl. PPF is much thicker and will last longer. Plus because it is tinted, at some angles it looks like a glossy grey metallic color but at other angles and lighting you can see through it enough to still notice the stainless steel texture beneath it. We're bias of course but we think this is the best wrap option anyone has done so far. Our shop is in North Austin/Cedar Park, feel free to reach out!
Yeah, they really did a great job using that transparent smoked clear. I believe Farzad said it's original use is for tinting headlights / taillights. Looks amazing. Farzad, if you could talk with the guys that loaned it to you to get more information about it would be great!
When cybertruck wasn't released , all the critics say ah so boring and ugly stainless Steel, silver colour... once wrap...omg it look so nice that all the celebrities wanna get one.
This video is phenomenal. Between the video quality, the smooth filming, Farzad's natural conversational questioning, and Sandy's energy and absolute planet of knowledge, it's an engaging watch.
This video should have more views. Sandy is one of the rare personalities, where you want to watch every video he's in. There's hundreds of people making videos about cars, but only 2 or 3 of them are must see TV. Jason Cammisa on the Hagerty channel is another one.
Anything to amaze and delight that man, I couldn't imagine any greater feeling than doing your difficult job in a field well understood by somone like him and then having him give your work that nod of approval...that is all anyone ever wanted when they got to the top of their field if they have their head screwed on right.
Sandy Munro: It's like everyone else at Munro - nobody listens to me - LOL I kind of doubt that. Sandy has a particular style - but it is really enjoyable and based on a lot of knowledge and facts.
Hey Sandy, a whole bus load of children around your cyber truck. That’s awesome. We have a lot of young people looking at our cyber truck and I have a little guest book that I have the adults sign for me! I enjoy that too but it’s a joy to see all the young peoples reaction. They know more about it than most of the adults with them. Great interview with Sandy; big improvement Fazad… Thank you both. Lester
Best most informative fun interview I've seen in ages. Sandy is a Legend and Farzad is so well informed and a joy to watch. Loved the inception of the Cybertruck back in 2019 and now totally amazed how Tesla have pulled this off. I can't wait to see this Cybertruck be the most adapted truck on the planet and all its variations that will come to fruition! Hope to see one here in deepest West Wales UK.
Farz my man! Your authenticity is for real! No way Sandy would feel comfortable any other way! He digs you! And for good reason. Best CT review on the web! Great job!
Some lovely words from Sandy about women and his wife , he makes a good point , doesnt matter what religion you are , a good woman is all you need in life. Who can argue with that.
Sandy, this is Ari, I gave you food in NJ on our Plaid trip. The range calculator is based on previous driving use and consumption. If you had been driving harder prior to the stop and go that day ( the day before or earlier or were on the highway etc), the calculation is based on that showing 111 miles left. Then you drove in stop and go which consumes less and is more efficient driving so the new calculation is based on lower consumption which is less which would then show a higher range by the time you were done the stop and go hence a higher estimate and less charge to have appeared as had been used.
Good explanation, came here to say same thing. Another anecdote - I drove from Milwaukee to Chicago and had 75% SoC getting into downtown Chicago. Changed to last 5 mi range meter so based on only stop and go , and at 75% I had 417 miles of range left. You get some much more range in the city than on the highway it’s nuts.
There is a mining company with big electric dirt haulers. They have a route that has full trucks going downhill and empty ones coming up. For the most part, they never have to charge as their energy comes from the decending dirt.
Sandy, I waited four years two months 16 days for my cyber truck. I’m now 85 and my drivers license has to be renewed next year. It was still worth the wait. Sandy, you’re only 75 you are just a kid!! LOL. Lester and Suzette Keep on trucking. And I have a Trimotor on Reservation also next year [after I pay my taxes] ha ha.
Great video except for Sandy's argument that it is not a work truck because the frunk is not comparable to the Lightning. I bet 99% of work truck don't even have a frunk! BTW, the Cybertruck bed is longer and has a larger closeable storage capacity (with the tonneau cover) than the lightning. The load capacity is also greater at 2500lbs.
Stop and go traffic with some elevation drop will not use much or any battery. If the elevation drop is big enough you’ll end up with more energy in the battery. I was driving over the Grapevine in California and was shocked when the nav battery estimate was telling me I’d arrive at the Tesla supercharger with two percent more in my battery and I was still many miles from the top. It was spot on when I arrived.
1) That wrap should be standard issue for the cybertruck. Amazing improvement. 2) The 111mi vs 115mi anomaly is the reason that displaying the percent remaining rather than range is the way to go. The range has higher order corrections that can give curious results like Mr Munro experienced.
Cybertruck is one of the most stunning creations I've ever seen. It truly is! Farzad, you and Sandy knocked this video out of the park ...what a great combo! I learned so much from both of you and the time just flew by. Kudo's guys!
Sandy Tesla recently announced you will be able to schedule an appointment at a service center to have your rear wheels adjusted at 10 degrees NO CHARGE
its hard to make flat panels look right because your eye easily sees if straight lines don't align. Curved surfaces don't give you a solid reference to know how the panels are supposed to align.
I met a gentleman in Phoenix Arizona that just got his cybertruck 3 days before, i was at a hotel across the street from his work office and my sister spotted it while on a walk. He came out at 9p.m. and gave myself my dad and sister a full tour for 10 minutes before he left. Absolutely the best stock vehicle i have even seen. The build quality was 👌 this was the second one i have been around. First was on display in miami. Thank you to that gentleman!
I want to say that the rear USB ports being out of the path of travel is genius. My kid has destroyed several charging cables, and I'm SHOCKED that the USB ports in the rear work after the punishment they were exposed to.
FUN FACT - Tesla is the only OEM that Changes & Improves AERO in Wheels & Tires every 3 - 4 months. and only TESLA is using TESLA patented Tire formula.
SANDY Not sure why you think the f150 is more of a work truck. I am a contractor. A bigger bed, tougher exterior, air suspension, better handling and maneuverability is much more valuable. The cybertruck has outlets all over and under bed storage as well as a truly protecting bed cover. Much more valuable and needed.
Unless you are going downhill, there is no way to put energy in by stop and go. Like you said, perpetual motion machine. There is no free lunch. However, There is a mining company with big electric dirt haulers. They have a route that has full trucks going downhill and empty ones coming up. For the most part, they never have to charge as their energy comes from the decending dirt.
Plain and simple folks. No matter who makes a new product there will be issues of all kinds. When you start talking about New engineering practices in Cars and Rockets and they can even actually manufacture them at all, that is truly amazing and deserves pure respect! No other vehicles or rockets are built the way Tesla and SpaceX does there product lines. You can't have expectations until they've been on the market for at least 5 years
Great interview and exchange . . . very informative. Farzad!!! What an AMAZING backdrop you arranged! Empty rooftop parking lot with amazing architecture surrounding you - gorgeous.
Love this. Sandy you have taught me so much about Tesla. Started with the cybertruck factory tour. Now I'm hooked..I would love to have the cybertruck but I'm 73 with a tight budget. Your the best Thank You
Farzad, Excellent video. In the future, please consider naming the companies or stock that are suppliers.. like, I think, Steel Dynamics makes the side panels. I'd be interested in knowing all the supplier names of components. Thanks.
Farzad asks excellent questions, and is a great interviewer! And without working from notes! Impressive. And Sandy is Mr. Knowledgeable when it comes to auto manufacturing, and I love to see Sandy impressed by what Tesla does and how they "spare no expense" to make a great "everyman" truck. And Sandy, the Cybertruck *DOES* have ADAS (AutoPilot, FSD), it just doesn't have it available for use yet because it's still being validated, but it has it. I wish people would stop whining about this.
Thank you for raising the rain sensor and indicator stalk issues. I feel that Sandy did not really consider the issues. Here in West Europe our climate includes a lot of light rain and having to repetitively press the quick wipe button many times in drizzle is very irritating. My 2011 VW Golf with rain sensor did a far better job of handling light rain than my 2021 Model 3. The use of indicators on roundabouts (which the USA has very few of) is a problem without stalks. Selecting the correct button with the steering wheel inverted is not ergonomic. This may not be an issue with steer by wire with variable steering rates avoiding this steering wheel position but not easy with regular steering.
The best Sandy Monroe interview I've seen. Also, if I were Elon, I would have made damn sure Monroe got a Cybertruck to tear down PDQ. What an ally to have!
It is a tinted or smoked paint protection film. The specific brand is Legend HTM-40. The cool thing about this product is that it makes the vehicle darker while also being transparent. This means you can still see the stainless grain and Foundation Series laser etching underneath. Super unique and looks amazing in person.
FARZAD: I just saw a video on $ per vehicle per brand spent on recalls and, they say FORD $1,083 is spent on recalls for every vehicle made, Tesla $677, GM $662, STELLANTIS $628. Is this correct? For Tesla is there a breakdown of the $677 that shows how much of that is Model Y / Model 3 / s / x / ? Is this $677 mainly for vehicles Tesla made 10 years ago, meaning is this number dramatically decreasing with time? This topic could be a entire video to speak about. I was surprised that Tesla was #2 as far as recall amount spent. These numbers were in a Autoline Network video from today. WHY does Tesla have the 2nd highest amount on the list? Thanks.
Awesome interview. Gary Black probably woke up out of his sleep when Sandy mentioned advertising being the catalyst for anti Tesla manufactured FUD. 😂 I That wrap is phenomenal. I still wonder how it's not capable of work with 2.5k payload, 11k towing and 6ft bed. 🤔
I was just in my service center, NY Metro, and there was a CT Beast in there, something minor, but having only been next to a CT behind the Tesla showroom ropes, today I was able to touch, feel the shear size, stand right next to a CT wow, amazing
the part about @36:00 minutes, this happens all the time in traffic because in traffic you get really good efficiency. before you got to the stop and go traffic you probably had a mix of everything INDLUCING highway speeds or 75+ which destroys the range. so what happens is the car see's you are getting bad efficiency because you are driving at highway speeds, so it estimates your range based on that. then you get stuck in traffic and your efficiency goes WAY up, and i'm talking about under 250 w/h a mile vs > 500 when goes 80 mph which is normal. so while stuck in traffic you gain range because now the car thinks this is the way you will drive for your entire battery so the estimated range goes up quite a bit. I drive a chevy bolt euv and it does this every time i drive in LOVELY LOS ANGELES TRAFFIC. i first drive 80+ for about 30 miles then get deep into the city and drive 15mph for an hour. Like Munro said, my range indicator will actually increase during the entire hour of 15mph traffic BS. going fast wastes a lot of energy, damn newtons whole 1/2 mv^2, velocity^2 is how fast the wind is trying to slow you down and its squared, so going fast destroys range. my favorite speed is around the 80-90 range, but it destroys my range
3/15/24 And the winner is...Amprius Technologies, Inc. !!! For the second year running, amprius has been voted by our battery industry peers as Best of Show at the 41st International Battery Seminar and Exhibit! For developing and bringing to market the 400Wh/kg, 10C charge/discharge cell that blew the minds of our industry peers and brought home the coveted prize this year.
The Cybertruck gained charge on his slow trip most likely because it was overall more downhill than uphill. + range estimator can change based on current weather. if wind speed changes even slightly it can affect range estimation by a few percent.

The wrap makes the cyber truck look like a Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk.

Sandy & Farzad, what a fantastic collaboration! You guys ROCK!
That is probably the nicest cybertruck surface finish I've seen. Love it.
Sandy's enthusiasm is infectious and is probably why he's so popular. Not to mention, he's a walking encyclopedia of engineering principles.

Farzad and Sandy together is a GREAT COMBO!! Thanks Eric for your awesome camera work here and on the Munro TH-cam channel! I LOVED THIS!!!
I freaking LOVE that wrap. I usually prefer the raw steel but this is the perfect balance of natural and swag. It's gorgeous on the CyberTruck.
that wrap is incredible
Thanks! 😊
What colour is that??
That's the most beautiful truck that I've ever seen.
Agreed. Funny part is, I thought it was ugly when it was first unveiled, but it grew on me big time

Sandy's knowledge and enthusiasm paired with Farzads and his ability to stay focused and keep the ball rolling is great.

the part about @36:00 minutes, this happens all the time in traffic because in traffic you get really good efficiency. before you got to the stop and go traffic you probably had a mix of everything INDLUCING highway speeds or 75+ which destroys the range. so what happens is the car see's you are getting bad efficiency because you are driving at highway speeds, so it estimates your range based on that. then you get stuck in traffic and your efficiency goes WAY up, and i'm talking about under 250 w/h a mile vs > 500 when goes 80 mph which is normal. so while stuck in traffic you gain range because now the car thinks this is the way you will drive for your entire battery so the estimated range goes up quite a bit.
Love Sandy, "... All the real excitement... is down below." 24:36
Sandy and Farzad great interview!!!! loved it
3/15/24 And the winner is...Amprius Technologies, Inc.
This was EVERYTHING right with the Internet!
The Cybertruck gained charge on his slow trip most likely because it was overall more downhill than uphill. + range estimator can change based on current weather. if wind speed changes even slightly it can affect range estimation by a few percent.
That’s my fav wrap color
What is the name of the wrap color? I really like it. I would do a Matte version for my incoming Cyberbeast.
It is a tinted or smoked paint protection film. The specific brand is Legend HTM-40. The cool thing about this product is that it makes the vehicle darker while also being transparent. This means you can still see the stainless grain and Foundation Series laser etching underneath. Super unique and looks amazing in person.
Great breakdown. That is an awesome wrap. Congrats!
