  • The Subaru Crosstrek is a subcompact crossover SUV that has been on sale since early 2012. The top-notch ride quality and unmatched off-road performance made it an excellent proposition for the segment.
    A Special Edition model joins the Crosstrek family for 2023. It's based on the Premium trim and comes exclusively with Desert Khaki paint, 17-inch wheels, and dark gray exterior trim.
    So let's look at ten things you need to know before buying the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek.

    Just purchased the 2023 limited coming off an 03 vw Jetta vr6 and the ONLY thing I can “complain” about comparatively is it’s not quite as peppy. Handling and visibility feels very similar which I absolutely love. The fact that there are still physical buttons for most everything is great. I love the old school feel to the interior. Pretty slick overall.

    Good to see the smaller, dedicated, infotainment system over the all encompassing ones that take out the tactile buttons and create safety hazards for the driver using a touch screen to try and adjust everything while driving. Hope they keep the option of having this smaller screen available in the upcoming years!

    4:45 Highway range with the manual is still well over 400 miles, around 5 to 6 1/2 hours at interstate speed. I wonder how significant an 8-hour gas tank really is for a driver with a four-hour bladder?

    I went for a test drive, but my dog wouldn't get into it.
    Baldurdash notwithstanding, I'm not really looking for hard-core off-road capabilities, or blistering acceleration.
    The Premium trim level equipment with Manual transmission (the ultimate millennial antitheft device and according to most reviews, quicker off the line than the CVT) looks like a fine value.

  • @Chubbydippin

    Why they don't offer the sport/2.5l engine with a manual transmission is frustrating. Very intrigued by the crosstrek with the 2.5l but no manual is a no go. It's similar to how many manufacturers don't offer a AWD option in manual. Truly disappointing.

    I have a 2022 Crosstrek Sport and I love it, the bigger engine makes a difference in giving it enough power. I'm surprised the infotainment is one of the high points, as it is one of the low points for me. It feels old and outdated, but it is functional for the most part. I do like the fact that everything isnt controlled through the screen, the car has a lot of physical buttons.

      I have the 23' premium crosstrek and it's at 26 avg MPG for me at 700 miles on the engine. I must add that I live up in the hills and am constantly making trips down to town and what-not. I'd imagine in a flat area you would be getting most likely the advertised 33 MPG or maybe more, but who knows the car tells me I'm getting 99 MPG while going 80 down the hill to town. Guess it all depends on how much you wanna make it go vroom.
      Also the Manual function on s mode definitely beats the proposed 60mph in 10 secs claim. Got it up to 60 in like 5-6 secs.

    I test-drove this car recently, and the only reason I wouldn't buy it is that it doesn't come with lumbar support in any trim even though it costs 30K plus. Why reviewers fail to mention an increasing lack of this feature on non-base trims escapes me. I disagree about acceleration and responsivity. Just a slight touch of the gas pedal produces a satisfying response, which to me is a hallmark of an exciting driver. There are too many cars in this segment where you have to push the pedal almost all the way to the floor to get it going.

    This would be on my short list, but want something I can keep a long time. That CVT isn't it. Subaru used to offer manual transmissions throughout their lineup, but they are killing them all off. If I can't get a manual, I will pass. The fact that they force buyers to go with the small engine to get the manual has irritated me enough that I will probably go elsewhere. I would consider a WRX, but don't want to suffer the reliability hit of the turbo and pay extra for it. I also wanted the extra ground clearance of the Crosstrek. It's too bad. They used to make cars I wanted. Now they just miss the mark.

    • @michaellowe3665
      @michaellowe3665 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @robertstephens6775 if you don't mind that it is fragile, can't be fixed if it breaks, is difficult to check or change the fluid and will cost more to replace than the value of the car when it dies somewhere short of 150k miles, I guess you can call it good if you want. Personally, I don't like the slow response to throttle input and monotone drone from the engine during acceleration either. I will definitely be trading ours in before 100K. Subarus are supposed to be 250k cars. CVT failures will total most of them long before that.

I had the unfortunate job of driving my friends 2021 2.5 up a 10% grade with four of us in the car during a hiking outing. It was pathetic. The thing was reviving so high I thought it was going to explode and don’t get me started on the cvt. The whole car is a cheap mess. Good lord. All these weird people claiming they love this car is mental illness personified. I was personally horrified to find out it had a boxer engine that wasn’t in a 911. Just awful.
