S2N is so underrated on this album.. it just plain kicks ass. I went to the concert last week and they didn't play it, but they did play Pale Blue Dot

Definitely the best 2 songs on the new CD. I too was introduced and got into DT back in 94 I think when one of my BBS (Bulletin Board System, before the internet) friend told me about them and sent me a copy of Awake. OMG that was amazing and is still one of my fave DT albums. Images and Words as a little light for me. Awake was the thick and heavy and tight sound that I most associate w. DT. So so so glad the new CD goes back to their roots. So many hints of Rush on this CD that you can clearly hear with the stop/starts like Rush had on Cygnus X-1 and so many other noticeable homages to Rush's tone/sound. Just sick time changes on these 2 songs. I don't know how anyone can think of this stuff but they do. My fave band hands down. And James sounds so great on this CD where is isn't straining his voice and keeping to the lower registers. I hate the CDs where he is too high and straining. This is the sound James should of always had on all the other CDs. Great job by my Progressive Metal GODS that DT are.!!!!! Keep on rockin'
The most amazing part of S2N is that the guitar solo sounds like a keyboard at times, and the keyboard solo sounds like a guitar at times!

Looking forward to their concert in Austin TX on May 1st. I also got VIP tickets. I've seen Dream Theater probably about 15 times. Each time is just so unreal. They are so intense live!!!
Thanks for the comment Alan, yes Yes and YES! They are truly amazing. Rich has seen them a bunch of times too. He took me to see them for my first time while they were doing the 2016 Astonishing tour in Albany and they were outstanding.
They are playing in Orlando on April 24, 19 (which happens to our wedding anniversary) and he surprised me with floor tickets!!!!! We are so excited!

I saw Dream Theater open for Iron Maiden about 7 years ago. First time seeing both bands. Great show!!!
Even though one headphone piece works for you guys, I think both having full headphones would help involve the audience a lot more. However, thanks for the reaction! Good stuff. I'm also a concert pianist in Boston, so it's always great to watch other musicians enjoy more contemporary music :)

@@Kel.N.RichReactions Even though it works to get a good initial impression, it's nice as an audience to know you're getting the fullest sound possible to maximize the impact. Plus, no matter how good your hearing/listening, you can't get everything that's going on from one side since there are side-specific sounds for any 2.0 setup. Either way, whatever works.

Pale Blue Dot is a spacy prog tune referencing the astronomer Carl Sagan's philosophy of planet Earth from a cosmos perspective according to an interview with John Petrucci.

Waves and beaches ... it's right and at the same time ... There's something even greater behind this, something that makes Dream Theater's Pale Blue Dot even more meaningful and powerful. As Alan said, the tune is referencing Carl Sagan's Pale blue dot.
In 1977, 2 space probes were launched to encounter Jupiter and Saturne. These were the Voyager probes. Carl Sagan worked on the golden disks they're carring. After the flyby of Saturne, Voyager 2 continued its journey to Uranus and Neptune while Voyager 1 was directly ejected to the outerspace.
But in 1990, Carl Sagan, after years of attempts, finally managed to convince NASA to turn the Voyager 1 cams towards the solar system. It took 60 images of it at a distance of 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles) from earth.

They are out there Tom! Kel's a Taurus... and a fierce one at that. She started out as a classically trained pianist that would sneak metal tapes into her house and into her car and play them in secret. Since meeting me, her metal immersion has ramped up and she's loving it. The picture on our channel is us front row at Metallica in Pasadena in July 2017.

Oh yes! This was our first first react video and we very quickly came to realize that experience was going to be not only heightened but completely new with great headphones. As much as we loved the lovebuds, we listen to the smart guidance of our channel subscribers and ditch them after the first few reactions. This entire album kicks ass! I happen to enjoy the Mike Mangini era of albums better than Portnoy minus the Astonishing which I didn't care for so much. DT are at their best right now. No way, dude. You record your FIRST (sic!) REACTION. How can you appreciate music (moreover, very intricate in this case) when listening to it for the FIRST time using one headphone piece? NO, YOU CANNOT.
So, you reaction is either fake or absurd.
I suppose all the music listening and playing we have done ( Kel’s a concert pianist and a former conservatory teacher across Canada) gives us the ability to experience it enough to do this. Not really that hard to hear the detail we need this way. So it’s not fake but may be absurd from your perspective...not ours. All good. Thanks again.
