I'm not usually very big on reaction videos... But I have to say that you guys are a genuine joy to watch. I have been a Dream theater fan since 1992, and it's almost like hearing this song for the first time all over again...when I watch the emotions on your faces. Dream theater really are an absolute treasure that I have bee in love with for 27 years now... And to see your faces express so much feeling and soul when listening to this song. I actually teared up a couple times when you guys did, even though I have heard this song countless times. That was fun....Feel free to do some more. 😉
I’m speechless again....unreal. I’m usually pretty snappy and swift on my feet, however...your kind and thoughtful comments mixed with your own personal story quickly reminds me why Kel-n-I have chosen to do this with you all. This experience seems to bring out the best in people. Thank you for being an A-class ambassador for this. We are inspired ✨✨✨⚡️🌪🔥🙏🏽❤️
I agree with this comment 100%, except I only discovered DT 3.5 years ago, and I barely can listen to any other band. I love watching you guys because it is rare to find someone who enjoys them like I do. This older rocker mama's girlfriend aren't into metal much :)
Great song! I live in Tuscany, near that area they talk about in the text. Every time I pass from there with the car I think of Petrucci and the others ..... This song added magic to an already wonderful place!
Could y’all somehow list songs you haven’t heard or albums y’all aren’t familiar with and I’d love to give and we could give recommendations. ;) #DT4life
I must have listened to this song 2-300 times (not an exaggeration, this is by far the most played song in my library) and I have the exact same feeling you guys did every. Single. Time. It’s a masterpiece.
This song is in my top 3 favorite songs of all time. It ticks every single box for me when I’m listening to it. Wholly satisfying in every way. And it gets better every single time I listen to it, which is very often.
I so appreciated the genuine and raw emotional reactions to this song....thank you...it was a pleasure to anticipate certain parts of the songs and see them get noticed by both of you. It brought a smile to my face many times and felt like I was "introducing" you to the song in a way. I always get emotional during the later middle part of the song with Petrucci's "solo". I saw them play this song live during this album tour and that moment of the song during the show was a moment I don't think I'll ever forget....
The riffage in this song is insane. Not just because it’s super fast, but because it is almost CONSTANTLY changing. It rarely repeats a phrase more than twice before switching to a different pattern, all while seemingly random polyrhythmic stuff is happening in the background with the drums. And they make it sound so effortless. In my opinion, this is DT at the very peak of their game. Such a shame this is the last album Portnoy recorded with them. No shade on Mangini, he’s a fantastic drummer and has found his own niche within the band, but nobody can play with the passion and power that Portnoy could. There was always a kind of carefree exuberance to his playing that balanced out the technicality and prevented it from sounding sterile.
This this right here. I dont want to start up a debate between portnoy and mangini. But in my opinion this is why i like portnoy more not to say mangini is bad hes not i love his drumming too but mangini sounds like a drum machine his playing is way to technical and perfect. Portnoy sounds like he is the soul of the band when he drums
It's wonderful to see comments from people who think about music and especially DT exactly the same way as me. Best band on the planet for the last 30 years !
I'm so jealous of Kels musical heart connection w you Rich!!!I had a long long time ago such a connection but alas we were separated by life . This is what I feel as I watch the two of you. Thank You❤✌by the way I've been waiting for two reactions. 1. Yes:Awaken 2. The Count of Tuscany. After seeing Kels reaction to Close to the Edge, I just knew it.
9:50 That's not the "bridge", that's the chorus. The bridge would be the instrumental section followed by the soft part and guitar swells in the middle (after that 2nd chorus.)
Soo glad you did this song! I have been waiting for you to do this one!!! Another one of the same cd is The Best of Times. A song written for Mike Portnoy's father who passed away about the same time mine did. Talk about some heart felt lead guitar!! These 2 are in my top 4 Dream Theater songs quite possibly 1+2!!
I don't know why many people don't get Dream Theater. I've been I fan ever since I heard Pull Me Under back in 1992. I don't care if it's Portnoy or Mangini on drums (although I do miss DT's chemistry with him). I don't care if it's Rudess, Sherinian, or Moore on keyboards. Their music is just so awe inspiring and epically intense. Now I'm almost 46 and DT's music still makes me feel like when I was 20. With that said, could you please do me the honor and react to one of my all time favorites: Octavarium (both live and studio versions). Also if you want to see them in their full instrumental glory please react to Acid Rain Live in LA (with guest bass player Tony Levin of King Crimson). They did a side project called Liquid Tension Experiment and produced two amazing instrumental albums. Acid Rain is from one of those albums. Thank you so much for your reactions!!!
I can try to explain. To me they have music that is absolutely brilliant, like this song, then other songs that just fall flat or come off as cheesy, sometimes on the same album. This song is pure genius though.
I'm 64 now and think DT are the most underrated band of all time. I play guitar but Petrucci is just unbelievable and all members past or present are just top notch!
It's because people generally aren't educated on music and how it works. They prefer simple 3 minute songs that are instantly gratifying instead of a piece of music with substance that you can really appreciate and even learn from.
That moment, after the first few listens, when everything fits into place and you 'get it'. That, for me, was one of the most satisfying feelings and one of the strongest musical emotions, I have ever felt. Brilliant.
You guys are officially ready to react to "The Glass Prison" ;) But seriously, I know you guys love the "soaring" quality of some of DT's songs, so I strongly advise you to check out "Voices", which is from the "Awake!" album. It's LaBrie at his best, and the band sounds so tight! For their thrashier, grittier side, listen to "Honor Thy Father" (or, basically, most of the songs on their "Train of Thought" album).
@@fp7026 but have they reacted to them online? As long as they're already taking the DT journey, they might as well go into their masterpiece concept albums/songs, including "Six Degrees", "Scenes froim a Memory", "Images and Words", "A Change of Seasons"... Not to mention that they asked for recommendations/favorites!
Ok! Provocative. We like that. Voices would only be a first react if it was LIVE since we both have listened a lot to Awake. It goes on the list. Definitely! I’ve saved Train....awesome. Never touched it.
@Martín Perazzo ....great suggestions. Kel has not heard SCENES! I’ve been saving that one for her. That will be off the hook!!!! COSeason as well! Oct also! Hehehe.
WE ALL KNEW!!! This is the one, the best song ever. And this is why: This song can take away any pain you are feeling inside. The melody, the lyrics and the transitions are so interpretable as an enormous life-changing decision you are about to take. This is something we all feel when we have problems (in fact we all have). If you are in that situation, you will cry, because this song heals it ! You can tell by their reactions at the end of the song, they freeze, just because the song ended!! The end of bad times.
This reaction never gets old. This is my favorite song of all time.. just everything about it is perfect.the best outro I’ve ever heard.great job guys!
Me alegra que disfruten a estos tremendos musicos. Por lo menos a mi me dan ganas de vivir cada dia como si fuera el último. Saludos desde Argentina. Aguante Dream Theater!!!!!!!
you guys are amazing - an honest and deep visceral response to art. I remember the way i felt the first time I saw paintings by the artist Cezanne, the first time I saw London from the top of the Shard .... life is about moments, taking a second to share a moment with those that mean the most to us, when we can do that and experience art together for the first time ... it's even more special. Please keep sharing - I enjoy your genuine and personal interpretations of Dream Theater's art. Music connects us, on so many levels and in turn, helps all of us to grow together. Your unspoken heartfelt moments illustrate and tell a story for all of us to incorporate into our own library of life's moments ..... and that sharing helps us all to learn and appreciate things on so many different levels. Many thanks for everything that you do. You guys are great!

This is a great song. My favorite part is the end when The Count speaks and the music is soaring. It's hard to not get emotional.
You guys are awesome....every time kel crys...I cry with her....
Speechless, makes me cry every time. Truly an amazing piece of music.

That part when it all comes back at the outtro is one of my favorite moments in music. So profoundly beautiful
