Starting out on guitar, we all want some easy guitar songs to learn, right? What if I told you that there is a not-so-secret formula, that you can learn, to be able to play hundreds of popular songs?
In this lesson, I will show you how you can play many of the most popular songs of all time using just four chords. These easy guitar songs will be instantly recognizable, and you will have a lot of fun learning and playing them.
We all want to be able to pick up a guitar and play some great sing-along songs with friends and family. And this lesson will show you how you can fast-track your way to being able to play hundreds of easy guitar songs quickly.
These are perfect songs for beginners to learn, using simple open chords. I will take you through how to play each chord as well.
I also show you how you can use a capo to take these easy chords and play even more easy guitar songs without having to learn any more chords!
The four chords we are using today are G, C, D and E minor. I will show you exactly where to put your fingers on the guitar neck, and then show you how you can take these four chords and play many great songs.
When we play these four chords in a specific order, we can play a huge variety of well known songs in many different styles of music. Simply by changing the timing and strumming that we use. Changing the order of the chords in several different ways really opens things up as well, as you will see in the lesson.
The same chord progression can take you from playing Green Day to U2 to John Denver to Journey! It's an amazingly versatile trick to have up your sleeve :)

Learning F chord and barre chords
My sis gave me an acoustic guitar when I was like 5 while she moved to go to college. It took me like six years to even learn that “cords” existed in guitars and now after 12 years of “owning” a guitar, I learned four new cords!
Someone taught me a cool trick a while back. Drop the whole tuning down a half step and capo the 1st feet. Puts a little slack in the strings to make bends and pull offs cleaner 👍
Chords listed at @1:05
Great thanks Owen! Now it seems easy to learn the guitar. Borrowed my friend's guitar to see if it was something I would like to learn. But with lessons like this, it would be easy and a pleasure to learn. Thanks again. Inspiring...
Throw in an A minor and you have Take It Easy by the Eagles...you always send me away with something new to think about Owen...thank you sir,....looking forward to the next VIP with you...
And JACKSON BROWNE!!!!!!!!!!!
With the Em Chord, if you add one more finger on the same Fret you get an A chord! LOL My favorite chords, including the A Chord! The First ones I learned when learning how to play guitar.
Thats an E sus with an A maj shape.
That's not an A it's an E
I love Em 😄
Thanks Owen , that's how I started out , at the age of ten.... 😊
Another popular chord progression is G D C. You now know Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Another is just G C. That would be the verses of Poison's Every Rose Has Its Thorn and Skid Row's I Remember You (The chorus to I Remember You is G D E C). These are just a few I thought of off the top of my head. There are tons of songs that use easy chord progressions like these.
"Knocking on a heavens Door needs an A-miner:
G D / am am/
G D / C C /
Repeat 44 Times and Fade
Yeah ur a great guitar teacher.
Could you also teach us the finger picking technique , and thank you ❤
Thank You Owen

Dm,am,f,c . Is a cool 4 to jumble around too.. D,A,G. G,C,D. It's all coming together.

Yep! If you search for RTL Late Night Ed Sheeran you'l find it. I was watching it live on tv at the time and I was so amazed!
You can add the F. the I, V, vi and IV chords of a major key. The roman numerals represent the numbers of the major scale we begin a chord from (1, 5, 6, 4) so in C major this would be C, G, Amin, F or in G major it would be G, D, Emin, C.
He used Am and Em aswell as G and C
Nah, axis of awesome did it first.
You can even finger pick the same chords and make good music to a degree but it’s always good to learn the pentatonic scale
Thank you very much Master!
