    Fantastic lesson man! I have been basically a rythym player for 40 years. I'm always stuck in the pentatonic boxes it seems when it comes to lead. I honestly can say I think you are the best guitar instructor on TH-cam.

      Figuring out where all BC and EF notes are the best way learn the neck. They act as landmarks for different modes so you can break out of the pentatonic and start sounding more like Jerry Garcia.

    You are doing great speaking and showing information about learning lead on guitar. You don't bore us with a lot of nonsensical talking that many do, but you only speak to describe what a person should do.....Great Job!!

      😂 yes but in music you get instrument solos e.g a guitar solo sometimes referred as lead, for piano solo, for saxophone solo,but generally lead is where the guitar or instrument completely take the role of the singer in for example instrumental music where there is no singer and the notes are lead by an guitar.

      @@OnwardAndEdward a few things. In the chord progression of all major chords, how does A minor pentatonic work if all major? The notes used in the double stops, I understand its from the chord shape, but are the notes coming from major pentatonic scale? Also, the 9ths? The last note showed, wouldn't that be the 7th since its one note from the 6thssss lol? Hopefully some of this makes sense. Been playing a while, yrs, but struggling with theory and I really learn best by knowing why's, how and when.

    • @OnwardAndEdward
      @OnwardAndEdward 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      All great questions! First off, the root notes of each chord in the progression that’s all major chords, are all in the minor pentatonic scale. The only note in the minor pentatonic scale that really clashes is the minor 3rd, but that’s really if you land on it whilst the A Major chord is playing and you hear that Major 3rd from the chord along with the minor 3rd from the scale, you’ll get a dissonant sound. But if you dance around it, it actually represents the backbone of western music. Think the blues, where you’d hear minor pentatonic over major and 7th chord progressions all the time.
      About the double stops, the notes could indeed be found in the Major pentatonic scale from each chord. But that would overcomplicate it to explain it that way imo. Many, many times you’ll run into series of notes that are shared by multiple chords and scales. How I would choose to describe them is based on the context of what’s being played, along with the simplest explanation.
      And as far as the 9ths, yes those are 9ths lol. The last note in each of those barre chords is an octave of the root (you could say the 8th) and the next upper octave note occurring would be the 9th.
      Tried my best to answer your questions via text, but I hope this helps!
