Fantastic lesson man! I have been basically a rythym player for 40 years. I'm always stuck in the pentatonic boxes it seems when it comes to lead. I honestly can say I think you are the best guitar instructor on TH-cam.
Figuring out where all BC and EF notes are the best way learn the neck. They act as landmarks for different modes so you can break out of the pentatonic and start sounding more like Jerry Garcia.
@@tjames6427 Thank you so much!!!
Fantastic guitar lesson
I've been playing rhythm guitar since 2009
Now I'm 30 years old and I decided to play lead guitar to come out of my comfort zone
You are doing great speaking and showing information about learning lead on guitar. You don't bore us with a lot of nonsensical talking that many do, but you only speak to describe what a person should do.....Great Job!!
Thanks Eddie! I'm an old metal head and your lessons make me seem like I have a heart! THANKS!!!
I heard the CCR and Zeppelin as you were explaining the approach. This really opened my eyes (ears) to sounds I thought only the masters knew. You pulled back the curtains, thank you.
Danke! Eine super Lektion, die einem zeigt, was man eigentlich kann, es aber nur noch nicht wusste. Und, dass weniger Töne zu spielen oft mehr ist. Weiter so!
A very down to earth guid and so well explained nice job old bean
I love this guy, says things I like and makes sense.
His name is Eddie.
@@44scoots Thanks Scoots.

I hate to admit it, but you make music theory fun! Thanks!
A guitar 🎸 who played chords ( = several notes played at the same time) that provide the rhythm of a piece of music 🎼 especially while a singer sings , or other musicians play, the main tune.
I love this! A no BS lesson that gets to the point! Thanks!
Thanks for the lesson. I liked the double stops in the A-C-G-D progression, Reminiscent of Jeff Buckley's - Last Goodbye. Really nice.

Excellent ideas here ! Thankyou
Love all of your tutorials you have an amazing ability at making playing the guitar so simple, which basically it is. You are one of the very best guitar tutors on TH-cam, quite possibly THE best 👍
It seems so easy when you explain
Good teacher
That‘s what you actually do a lot when you‘re the only guitar player in a band. Just listen to Jimmi. 😄
You also do it when you‘re comping - backing a soloist rhythmically without getting in his way.
Thanks ,i can play through a lot of songs,i play my own songs, but its the leads and solos i just cant seem to get right

Always Be Noodlin 😂
doesn't solo mean by yourself? do you mean lead?
😂 yes but in music you get instrument solos e.g a guitar solo sometimes referred as lead, for piano solo, for saxophone solo, but generally lead is where the guitar or instrument completely take the role of the singer in for example instrumental music where there is no singer and the notes are lead by an guitar.
Oh yes creedence Clearwater revival it ain't me
So confusing lol
Which part? Let me help
@@OnwardAndEdward a few things. In the chord progression of all major chords, how does A minor pentatonic work if all major? The notes used in the double stops, I understand its from the chord shape, but are the notes coming from major pentatonic scale? Also, the 9ths? The last note showed, wouldn't that be the 7th since its one note from the 6thssss lol? Hopefully some of this makes sense. Been playing a while, yrs, but struggling with theory and I really learn best by knowing why's, how and when.
All great questions! First off, the root notes of each chord in the progression that’s all major chords, are all in the minor pentatonic scale. The only note in the minor pentatonic scale that really clashes is the minor 3rd, but that’s really if you land on it whilst the A Major chord is playing and you hear that Major 3rd from the chord along with the minor 3rd from the scale, you’ll get a dissonant sound. But if you dance around it, it actually represents the backbone of western music. Think the blues, where you’d hear minor pentatonic over major and 7th chord progressions all the time.
About the double stops, the notes could indeed be found in the Major pentatonic scale from each chord. But that would overcomplicate it to explain it that way imo. Many, many times you’ll run into series of notes that are shared by multiple chords and scales. How I would choose to describe them is based on the context of what’s being played, along with the simplest explanation.
And as far as the 9ths, yes those are 9ths lol. The last note in each of those barre chords is an octave of the root (you could say the 8th) and the next upper octave note occurring would be the 9th.
Tried my best to answer your questions via text, but I hope this helps!
