Thanks for this great lesson. I had to look it up, I never heard of this distinction, filial fear and servile fear. I never understood this fear of the Lord. Filial fear does not turn away from God, but hates sin above every thing else, and fears to offend God: servile fear is a flight and hatred, not of sin, but of punishment and of the divine judgment, and so of God himself. I really need to work on myself, I have servile fear. Pray for me please.
Fear of the consequences of sin is still good to have, as it's attrition and a help in making us repent. Contrition (fear stemming from love of God) is higher, yet it can still coexist with other motives like attrition & is given to us by God too
Amen! BOTH Fears are important! As it is "natural" to Fear Punishment and Hell; but it is SUPERnatural to TRULY be motivated by The Fear Of Offending GOD alone, and placing my LOVE FOR HIM "before" my love for MySELF. I beg that The Holy Spirit sends each of us "THE GIFT OF FLIAL FEAR". Amen.
We all do to some extent. It's only natural,: So, don't be too hard on yourself. Keep moving fwd in your spiritual development and strengthen your prayer.
I know that I'm not perfect, but it helps me to not just pray for myself, but for others like me: those who struggle with similar sins. Love thy neighbor. I'm praying for you.

If you have had a scrupulous and hard-parenting style (exempt of love and affection) one would know well the meaning of it, and the difference between the two.
I find more humane and just to love my father, not to fear him. If I love my father I always want him by my side, and sorrow when he's not. If I fear him, if I fear to offend him by trivialities like picking up some sticks for the fire, it's a relief when he's gone. Fear is the beginning of irrationality and chaos, and there's no love that uses fear as a tool but that of an abuser.
Even the snails made it onto the ark, so don't give up!

I found it very interesting that he brought up that some Catholics were hindered from overcoming serious sin by priests at *traditional* parishes whose presence in the confessional was no longer that effective because they seemed to get lazy by way of just doling out a lackadaisical "just do better" right as it seemed to me that I was running into that same issue at my traditional parish. There can be priests who get lazy on just about anything in any parish -honestly, I've occasionally had them both ways over the years that I've been "practicing" the faith. But I very recently found a good article that described the exact confessional issue I started finding with the *current* pastor of my Latin Mass parish - he just seems to have fallen into a "just check the box" style and "gives me the same penance no matter what I do" - for whatever the reason. I was glad to be reminded in that article that it doesn't invalidate the confession. But I HAD to be concerned and think about what to do over the possibility of needing confession as a way of *overcoming* certain sins, one particular mortal sin that I could *occasionally* still fall into along with some "habitual venial sin" rather than just going through what would seem to be the same "run of the mill" thing again. So, although I hadn't been to a Novus Ordo parish in about 6 years, I started to consider that although I still wouldn't break from my Latin Mass parish, I might try *confession* at a Novus Ordo again instead. I'd had good *effective* confessions with them before - and even with "habitual venial sin", it seemed crucial that I go to confession again. I wouldn't have done that if I didn't see the necessity of and want real help on *quitting* these sins rather than just having them forgiven *again.* I don't agree with or approve of everything I've seen in some of the local Novus Ordo parishes - but I *will* be respectful and non-judgmental regarding the fact that it's still a house of God and know what a good, valid, *effective* confession is and yes, in my experience, you could find that in less "traditional" parishes too. I was a little uncertain about it at first, not from home, but right as I was actually arriving at the church and then going inside. They had changed the priest in the parish I was going to be "trying" for confession on this one Saturday afternoon and I didn't really know what they were like over at this parish at all anymore. But, once it was done, it was good. Clearly, I had the right disposition and intention, or I wouldn't have made the extra effort or taken a little *more* of a chance by going outside of my *usual.* He *listened*, asked effective, involved questions, gave effective, involved feedback, gave a really brilliant, on-point penance, and pronounced the correct words of absolution, even though they were just in English rather than Latin. So, no I will not be quitting my Latin Mass parish at all - but I will go back to this other parish for another confession again soon. I wouldn't go to confession if I didn't want my sins forgiven - but, beyond just needing them *technically* forgiven, will continue to go, carrying on with this *constancy* of effort and cooperation until they are further scrubbed and blotted out like I want. I know I can't *expect* to be 100% perfect on this side of Heaven - or, in other words, I shouldn't think that if confession doesn't just make me perfect, it must not be "working". But I have had confessions before that, for one reason or another, were much more effective in helping me gain a *significant, sustained reduction* of those occasions of sin and that is what I will continue to pursue. Funnily I'm in this journey now. And I did experience a Jonah. But before that there was a very strange occurrences of singular event that transpired few days prior before I experienced a Jonah. Currently, I'm just following through slowly on that Providence.
God is great. We just need to realise that instead of experiencing a Jonah. Stay vigilant my brothers and sisters.

Falling into same sin does indicate you've got some kind of bubble you're living in that makes you vulnerable.
Good idea to ask if you feel overwhelmed. Guilty. Embarrassed. Something is causing the trouble. Get a therapist's help identifying it.

They're in the process or perhaps finished with building their own little monastery somewhere in the wilderness as I remember him say in one of his talks. He sounds very grounded, straight to the point, and I believe, a holy Friar. We all need to pray for all priests and all Holy Orders, Religious Brothers and Sisters for they do much for souls, and we need Holy Priests and Holy Orders for salvation of many souls.
The story of Jesus and the adulterous woman is found in the Bible in John 8:3-11. The story is about a mob bringing an adulteress before Jesus for judgment, and Jesus decreeing that the first stone be thrown by someone who is free from sin until no one remains.
Question. What was Jesus writing in the sand?
With her downcast eyes, she would have seen the writing. And with that gesture bring her eyes up to look upon his own, I imagine.
@@TheScoutsHonor Thank you for your response. I believe she saw her own sins written. I would submit that he wrote the mobs sins. I would further submit he was writing down my sins and your sins. I submit the mob left and we had no further accusers. Jesus forgave her (us) and bid her (us) to sin no more. She (we) did nothing to earn the forgiveness. It's a gift from His Father through Jesus the Christ. Thanks for answering.
I remeber a Priest saying He was writing the sins of each man who accused the woman. As each man saw his own sins written, he walked away silent and left her with Our Lord.

Yeh, of all intelligent things A GOD could have sayd, he came up with such a stupid oneliner. If I would be one of the mob I would have replied "Yes Jesus, we all sin that's correct. But that's not good reason to stop enforcing the law". Because I should remind you that stoning adulterers was the law, the bible law, not a lynching.
Jesus could have pointed out that murder is wrong. He could have pointed out that there's no victim in adultery, therefore it shouldn't be a crime. He could have investigated in the past of the woman and see maybe she was abused and neglected so to justify her action and get her life spared. He could have pointed out how sexist it is that the woman was there but the man was left free, and the reasons that frees the man should be equally valid for freeing the woman. And many more I'm sure, I'm not a god. Instead he proposed sinners, like ALL humanity, should stop enforcing laws. This happens because the story was invented propaganda, where the enemies of jesus gets stomped intellectually by a witty and insightfull oneliner, but it failed miserably because the people for which it was invented weren't that much able to recognize what's witty and what's not, you just give them the IMPRESSION of wittiness and that's enough. There are more of those story around the gospels, all following the same ritual of problem-here comes jesus-oneliner that stumps the opposition- opposition running to plot his death. It's like a gospel's McGyver episode.
@@kregorovillupo3625 Jesus was a Rabbi at the time of this event. The mob brought the harlot to the rabbi for judgement. Jews are bound by the rabbi's judgement. Do we in modern America ignore the judgement of the courts? Of course not. Jesus the rabbi pronounced his judgement. Expanding on what he wrote in the sand, I submit he was writing your sin and my sin in the sand. Thus, when our judgement of the harlot, and ourselves is revealed, we are also convicted. The forgiveness extends to us as well. I can only hope the mob pays attention.

Well, sin is hideous in a sense that people probably will never comprehend in the present life. God knows it in all ramifications. The main reason people don't overcome sin is the presumption they know pretty well what their own sins are. Whatever stands between us and our Lord is sin an causes misery, because it hinders God's grace. And without God's grace, we sin. To be alert is to listen to the Spirit of God given to us. The Spirit of God brings pace to those that abide in the Father's Will. It is priceless and incomparable grace wich should be cherished as the most precious gift never to be parted by at any moment at any rate. By a hearth of prayer alone does the Lord provide that spiritual food by wich we think right, feel right and do right, letting no room for disordered loves to thrive. Spiritual direction is a tricky thing, condidered only intellectually. Without assistance of the Holly Spirit and the assistance of angels, it can go pretty bad. Only the Lord knows the hearths.

Where's the bible verse saying that, I can't find it. And if it's there, it's quite an unjust mechanism: why the unjust actions of a government should be the same as me committing injustice?

By reparation and riabilitation, two foreign concepts to the bible. Instead your book proposed justice is death, and just before that to repent and ask for forgiveness to your godfriend, and it's all good: you don't even really need to ask for forgiveness to those you hurt. Jesus alone will do.
