The thing conspicuously missing from this, pretty good advice is prayer. Even if you do pray its almost certainly not enough. Pray without ceasing. Go to Mass, pray the rosary, pray the angelus, the magnificat, wake up with the psalms, study the scriptures, read the saints, meditate, talk to God, contemplate, but never stop praying. Make your entire life a prayer and there will be no room for evil.

To waste time is an offense to God and that is why he lets you fall into impurity. Very insightful.

Excellent speech, I joined the church this past easter. I was a very self indulgent person, I thought I was tough. I was a commercial fisherman, regularly take cold showers, worked hard, dealt with the heat in the summer, never cared to be too comfortable. I sleep on the floor sometimes, in the cold etc. then I joined the church and realized quickly that I had issues with gluttony, pride, self destructive addictions, and realized really quickly that I was only tough in some ways. I’ve lost 60 lbs since joining the church back in Easter, reduced all my addictions save one, and am trying so hard to get rid of my addiction to pot.
I’ve been smoking a long time and didn’t think the church had a real issue with it specifically. I thought it always helped me be more spiritual. Made me appreciate gods love, helped me forgive and feel forgiven, even led to me opening my mind to Catholicism. What I never realized is, it also increases my hunger, laziness, and sex drive. All these things help drive my addictions and mortal sins. I’m always learning and always trying to improve. If I wasn’t married I think I’d go for the friar life style. I love the minimalist lifestyle but it’s about impossible with a wife and two kids.

@@bradhoffman8079 Excellent advice! Unfortunately, for my situation it’s impossible to do all that right now. My wife is very very anti catholic, she acknowledges my improvements but will not credit them to the church. She actively tries to stop me or the kids from going to mass, refuses to listen to anything about the topic of Catholicism. I’ve been to several Protestant churches with her and she has a very modern idea of christ. She won’t read scripture, she said she likes Jesus the way he is, if she reads something she doesn’t like in scripture then it will ruin Jesus for her lol.
I do take my kids but one is special needs and very hard to control in church. The other goes to her grandparents every other week and they’re anticatholic as well. They’ve already fought me on getting the kids baptized. All of my family is anti catholic as well so if I do get the kids baptized the rest of the family already said they won’t attend nor consider their baptisms valid. So there’s THAT.
Anyway I will take your advice and try to meditate. I do pray the rosary but rarely have more than 30 mins without being needed by the kids or wife so that’s about all the concentrated time I have. My wife has literally called me three times while trying to write this !

Do you pray the Divine Mercy ? That prayer alone brings on miracles. If you find you don't have enough time, wake up 15 to 30 minutes earlier, yes its a sacrifice, but believe me,GOD does see all. You'll be amazed at what prayer prayed from the heart can do. And always ask Mary to interceded.she NEVER disappoints. Remember, Divine Mercy prayer for the intentions for your family. GOD BLESS

    • @timboslice980
      @timboslice980 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@bradhoffman8079 Thanks brother! I will look it up and learn it! I was a little intimidated by all the prayers I thought I would have to memorize but really it hasn’t been bad. All my years as a Protestant the ‘our father’ was the only prayer I had learned. Now I’ve got the nicene, the glory be, oh my jesus, the Hail Mary, st Michael, and Gloria. Though, I admit it’s way easier to remember if we sing it. When it’s spoken, I almost always trip up somewhere at mass.
My priest just says be patient, keep praying, keep improving, don’t expect too much out of my family. That my righteousness will help them greatly. My wife rolls her eyes if I even say a religious word these days. She has zero interest in scripture, the church, I can’t even get her to watch the chosen or listen to contemporary Christian music. She says she’s a Christian, she believes, she’s going to heaven, literally any other details could jeopardize her salvation so she isn’t interested. I pray that the Virgin Mary will break through to her and to give me the strength to lay down my vices. I will look for that prayer today I thank you!

I like that you picked out everyday things people don't even think about linking to impurity, not only because you brought it to my attention some of these things are problems in my life, but also why they're problems, which people often don't mention. When people don't give the reason why things are bad or just simply not good, they avoid them first, but later fall back into them thinking it's absurd or without reason to avoid them. But when reason is given, it is more understandable to follow, and can be better explained to others without turning them away before they get to hear the reasoning behind what might sound unreasonable at first. Please continue doing this good work, thank you, and God Bless you.

Never is too strong of a word. The most effective way that I have managed to become open to God's grace is self-talk. Specifically, at least one must say to oneself "I distrust myself." It would probably be best to add "I trust in God alone." Also, to actually reverse one's excitation of the body it is necessary to counter the passion of hope with that of fear. Self-talk along the lines of "this leads to Hell" and imagining Hell should help accomplish this. Of course, it is always necessary to want to avoid sin.

So just want to start off with respect and appreciation for the goal of this sermon. It strikes me as a sermon to college students or high school boys/young men.
I honestly have never once ever heard anyone say anything about sleeping on one's stomach, but I also don't sleep on my stomach, so I can neither confirm nor deny, it just sounds more wives tale though to me
I will probably get lobbed some misunderstanding replies for this response. But I disagree with the accusation that sleeping in causes impurity. Here's why: It is pitiful to use sleeping in as an excuse for impurity. To clarify, sleeping in doesn't cause you to do anything, any more than being hungry causes you to lash out at someone. It may be a cause, but the result is taking place because of your lack of self-control in that respect. Yes, we should be disciplined about sleep and rest, but if you're using sleeping in as an excuse for impurity, you're making that choice, sleeping in isn't doing it to you.
The rule of thumb to watch by is that typically few virtuous things are happening late at night (Not always, but that's the case more often than not, so "be sober-minded and vigilant" or go to sleep at a reasonable time), and that in the morning, should one choose to sleep in, when the brain's chemical response to waking up are strong enough to clash with the brain chemistry that indicate it should be asleep, that's when some of the weirdest things tend to happen in the mind, which in turn triggers hormonally mixed signals in the body, which essentially together combine in a dangerous concoction of what will likely turn into an occasion of strong temptation, among other things, to impurity, if one isn't prepared to ignore those chemical and hormonal responses of the mind and body. For most, it is easier to simply wake up when they first wake up. But if one does sleep in, *ONE NEED NOT ENGAGE those chemical and hormonal responses of the body and mind.
It's similar to phone usage. Phone usage probably shouldn't take place around or when lying in bed, which is probably more to blame for impurity / sleeping in than the sleeping in itself. So a similar rule might be to avoid lingering in bed, especially avoiding use of one's personal cell phone in that area. Charge it about 5-10 + feet away from the bed, or in another room altogether, and don't bring it to you in bed in the morning. Just asking for trouble at that point.
That's what I mean when I say it's not necessarily a guarantee that impurity will be the result of sleeping in.

“Effeminate” why do people equate being feminine to weakness-women don’t use the word , that “masculinates” you to describe something that weakens them. So why is it men must belittle women like that. I am a woman and I am proud of being feminine. It does not make me weak.
