    I also just realized after uploading this I put the wrong dollar amount for the softbox towards the end of the video where I compare the two lights value for value when we make them do the same things. The ML60 softbox is only $45, not the $80 I put down. That changes the final price a bit. So, sorry for the mess up! My bad.

      @@ManoelFlesch I would like to know this as well. I don't mind the sound and slight compromises that sl60w has. I"m just looking to have it be available to use outdoors in the evening / night.
      I guess there must be a vmount solution out there.
      I'll do some research.

    Having bought the SL-60W as my first video light just three weeks ago and now watching this... I'd say I'm happy with my purchase. I hate it when brands put propreitary mounts and fittings on stuff, and I can have lots of Bowens S mount stuff already... The noise is not great but if I was going to upgrade my light, it would be to a brighter one anyway.
    Also I didn't pay full price. I got it on Amazon Australia for $160 AU ($120 US) with an extra barn doors and 4 gel kit, which is a pretty sweet deal.
    Thanks for another great video!

    I can't even recall how many times the SL-60W was too bright with that 10% brightness minimum in tiny spaces, and also fan too loud in tiny spaces :( But then almost not enough for trying to light two people with a large softbox. I would def. just save up and get the ML60 to be able to dial down brightness when I need to and know that it will work quietly in tight spaces or as key light for one person. I think if you know the limitations both these lights are awesome, and SL60 is just so easy to set up. I still use it sometimes over my VL150.

    I recently bought the ML60 and loving it. Your video was very detailed and the only thing I find a problem with the ML60 is that I use softboxes and I know there is one specific one for this (waiting for it as its on BO) and if you want to use the godox S mount to use your existing softboxes with the Bowens mount it works great BUT you can no longer use the batteries since you need the handle to attach to it , thats the only thing. Keep up the great work , love your content

    • @FellowFilmmaker

    Ahmmm. I'm new to lights and because of this video, I'm thinking of getting the ML with the softbox for my small room to light up my face when doing zoom meetings or TH-cam videos. I only have a small room approximately (8-10ft area). Do you think it is a great choice? And what Accessories should I get with it? I don't stand either. Any recommendations? Thank you so much 👍👍👍

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoy the channel! So yes I recommend the ML for small setups, spaces, and even zoom calls! I use it for zoom calls at 1-2 percent and it works great! :D For an accessory for it I recommend the softbox made for it (should be linked in the description and also found easily on my kit: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker ). If you think you'll need a remote maybe pick that up too, but otherwise I find the light and softbox plenty good enough. For a stand you don't need anything fancy for that. Here's what I use: amzn.to/39Rnmld Hope that helps

    The 60W is a parameter that refers to power consume, and lumens (lux) is when you need to talk about how bright a light is. The watts can be SOME related to how bright is a light, but it is not related in a linear way. I mean, if some light source of 60W power is 1000lux at 1 meter of distance another light source of 60W can be perfectly brighter at 2000lux. So, theorically Godox SL60 is 4100lux at 1m and ML60 13000lux at 1m, both are 60W power consume.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well when it comes to cameras there's a bunch and it comes down to what your needs are. Do you need 4K? Do you need slo mo? Do you need good low light capabilities? If you know answers like those you can start narrowing down cameras. Also keep in mind what kind of lenses you currently have. If you're heavily invested into one type it might not make sense to suddenly switch brands.

    Hey! very nice comparison with some great production value! :-) I need something compact and I have always rented out a 120d from aperture - would you say the ml60 is somewhat comparable? do I need an additional adapter for mounting the aperture light dome? greetings from Vienna!

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say the light is very handy and quite compact. In comparing it to the aputure 120d, of course it's not quite as bright (since it's 60 watts compared to 100+ watts) but I think it's plenty enough for alot of situations. You will need the adapter if you plan on using an aputure light dome with it since the dome is a bowens mount and the ml60 is a specialty mount. What do you typically shoot? That might help me know if I'd say it's great for those situations.

    Thanks for this video. One thing, you say it's the same power input so the same lighting output but looking at the Godox specs, they say SL 60 is 4100 Lux and ML 60 is 13 000 Lux !!! So 3 times brighter !! Did you noticed that in real life situation or is it just marketing ?
    Thanks

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are both technically 60w lights, so output wise they cannot really be brighter. The way they get that number has to do with the reflector they use. Usually creates a 'hotspot' and that is it's brightest point and therefore they can claim, truthfully, that it is a brighter light. In my testing of diffusors and such, at full power, they are both the same - at least to me. :D

    It's always nice to have the option to run lights on batteries, but almost no one talkes about runtime. The npf's are great, but usually don't like hight currents. They die much faster. Do you have any idea how long it would run on two npf 950s?

      I don't have the 950's so can't say for sure. I also hardly ever run off batteries since, to me, its unreliable and I prefer to be plugged into power. So sadly, I have no real insight here right now. Sorry

    Hi Heather. I'm probably getting the SL60w, but I'm wondering if you'd have any suggestions about putting an LED pocket light into some kind of lantern softbox, or a china ball... ?
    I know they're not normally bright enough for a heavily diffused light, but as I'm just beginning to upgrade my home video lighting from the desk lamps with tissue paper taped to them...
    I want to pick two lights that can be most VERSATILE, until people slow down spreading COVID so I can get back to work and put more money toward more specialized gear.
    at the moment I think I'm going with:
    🌈a little PixelG1 RGB pocket light
    (or similar priced brand) for coloring a grey backdrop, edge light, or soft fill.
    ☀️ And one single LED light with a Bowens mount for a key, prob the Godox SL60w.
    (over a panel or mat of LEDs since I'll want the option of shaping my light with hard shadows)
    ALSOO I've been browsing the 🌽 shaped LED light "bulbs," and warily eying some LED ceiling panel lights, because they're BRIGHT AF, 2'x4' FEET and I could get two for under $50
    since right now I have more time than money on my hands to figure out wiring a dimmer and making a DIY mount. Unless that's a stupid idea for some reason I'm missing.

      P.S. This additional budget comparison is extra helpful with reviews! thanks

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I've not used a pocket light with a china ball, I'd think they aren't bright enough to do too much. The brightest pocket light I have does only 12 watts, I believe, and its not really bright enough with any sort of diffusion on it. Now for your situational questions, it depends on what you're planning on shooting and distance in the room, etc. But in general you could get away with a decent RGB pocket light to light up a small section of a wall and then use a SL60 for a key light with a softbox of some sort. I've used a lantern with the SL60 and it's great for lighting up a entire small space nicely. If you're looking at handheld RGB, I hope to have a video in a few weeks on that stuff. But in general I'd recommend either the Aputure MC just becasue the app is amazing for it (however its not the brightest light) and then the weeylite rb9 light (this one is much brighter!). I love both but I think you'd find better use with the Weeylite one. In the end it comes down to what you can do/afford.
