My favorite way to describe DUNE to people is to tell them that the novel is to scifi what Lord of the Rings is to fantasy.

I'm kinda worried it'll get a little bit of the John Carter situation. "This feels like everything else and is so unoriginal!" when it's not derivative, it's in fact integral, the source material that so many other things ripped off. If this feels a bit like Star Wars, it's because Lucas "borrowed" a lot of this book!

@@Kvantum John Carter was Troma-level movie making. I remember at the point I watched it I was using the word "f***t**d" in my speech a lot and I said the word so many times by the middle of the movie I realized how much I was over-using the word and said "I really need to stop using that word. But I'll wait until after this movie is over." The most egregious is this one scene where some creature is standing, and the edge of their mask is untucked from the rest of their creature outfit and it is just sooooo bad. But it isn't just that one scene, the same garbage approach to the movie-making craft is extended to every part of the movie.

Dune movie 2020 is an adaption of the original novel written by Frank Herbert in 1965. The 1984 movie was also an adaption of the same novel. Dune had a huge influence on sci-fi in general, including Star Wars. The novel is pretty complex, so the director has decided to make it two movies. Drew, the 2020 film is not the remake of the Lynch film (1984) but as the film adaptation of the book by Frank Herbert so it's more faithful to the source material. It's a great novel that inspired numerous works, including Star Wars and Game of Thrones!
Fun Fact: They used the Pink Floyd song to pay homage to Jodorowsky (the one who wanted to make 1984 film but didn't succeed) because he wanted Pink Floyd to compose the score for the movie.

I love how people unfamiliar with Dune love this trailer...because it takes direct aim at the book's fans, too. Almost every brief shot in this trailer is an iconic moment in the book...this is some crazy fucking magic to make a trailer that hits the hardcore fans just as much as the people who have no idea what it is.

Great reaction guys and I could not be happier seeing Silent Ninja back in these reaction videos. I cannot wait to see this and Denis Villeneuve is one of the best modern directors working today. I've been waiting for a proper love action adaption of Dune ever since I saw the mini-series as a kid and this looks like its going to do it more than justice based on that amazing cast and the director alone.

Dune, is probably the best Sci-fi novel ever written, if not inspirational. This, if done right, should be the movie event of the decade. But on the flip side, it's a bit of a niche market. Those that know know the Spice must flow! It better do well as this is only the first half of the first book.

It's technically not a remake, but a re-adaptation of the source material! The director himself said there will not be any link to the original 1984 movie, so you don't need to watch that. Besides, that film was not faithful to the source material. If you want to, I recommend the 2000 SyFy miniseries "Dune" as that was quite accurate to the books, followed by the 2003 sequel "Children of Dune" which adapt the next two books. If you watch the 2000 miniseries, try to watch the uncensored 280 minutes cut! The American version was heavily censored.

I really hope they show that Paul has special physical training, "prana-bindu training", that he has been taught from his mother, who belongs to the same sisterhood as the lady with the needle. There is a physical/bioligical aspect to that sisterhood, the Bene Gesserit, and their fighting is uber advanced because of that.
In addition to this, I also really hope they show the philosophical aspects of the book too. How, Paul begins to understand that he will be trapped in some fate/destiny issues, that the author of the book, Frank Herbert, explores in depth.
The book is a deeply political and philosophical book, examining the machinations of ruling elites, vying institutions and also concepts and ideas of religion, worship, instincts, humanity etc. How humanity is deeply flawed, and how power is a huge corruptible influence.
I really hope they get this in there, and its not just a "hey I can see the future" type shallow superficial film.
This is, after all, what actually made the book so intense.

Do not watch the original first. This film is doing what was ALWAYS supposed to happen. The first director to try and produce Dune wanted a TEN hour movie. He never got off the ground. The second (the 1984 film) asked to split the film into two movies. He was denied. As such he had to cram one the most epic syfy story into one. The book was published in two parts. It should have always been two movies. This 2020 version is doing right. This film will only cover the FIRST half of the film. If you watch the 1984 first you’ll be left confused at best or will have the second movie spoiled. I can’t wait for this and I’m so pumped watching people who know next to nothing about Dune react. This is gonna be epic.

yeah. I hate the 1984 version. They went all white cast when in the book a main character is described with olive skin and curly hair. The fremen on Dune have lived on a desert world for thousands of years so would have selected out /against white skin genes because they would burn up in the sun. And a HUGE main plot point of the book is mixing genes to make better/ stronger/ smarter humans, so the 1984 movie SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! with the all white cast where as This version's cast looks amazing and true to the source material

Listen to the audio book Dune. Extremely good. Got my nickname from there. :)
It is set 18`000 years into the future, in the same galaxy as we live in today - Earth is a distant mythic memory... everybody lives in a Medieval feudal system - except each fiefdom is a planet, and not just a patch of a planet. Barons, Dukes, etc.. AI / Robotics is taboo/forbidden - projectile weapons are mostly useless because of personal shields, so sword-fighting is the norm (a slow blade penetrates the shields). Except for pellet guns, las-guns etc. The ornithopters have flapping wings. It's such a freaking cool world.

Yeah a 1965 book. The 1984 movie sucks because it added stuff not in the book and went opposite the book other places. This I would call a reboot / new adaption and looks like it will be epic because Deni is staying true to the book
Zendaya as the character Chani looks great. She looks like someone who could have been born and raised in the deep desert where as the 1984 movie had a white chick that never had a hair out of place while running around a desert
