"Dune did it first" is exactly right. Dune was written in the 60's, so it predates Star Wars and in fact was an inspiration for George Lucas. Joe knows his Dune.
Where are you getting this information from? Because I highly doubt only two scenes used green screen. But I do believe that most of this was shot in practical locations and with practical stunts. You can tell Momoa’s jump was on wires.

@@jeremybarnes3698 also sure, his jump had wires attached to him, but they used small thrusters sometimes in the book (like what the Baron uses to float ) so maybe that’s why it looks the way it does. But the actual stunt was done on a set that was actually built.
Dune is the most anticipated movie of 2021! The book is such a beautiful and well made piece of literature which is so sophisticated and makes use of so many aspects of life, politics, religion, ecology. I would implore you all to read the book before seeing the movie!

You have to give Lynch credit for even being able to pull off what he did even if it was quite different in many ways from the source material. It's still better than that godawful SciFi Channel miniseries version IMO though.

The first film is very basically the feud between the Atreides and Harkonens (with the aid of the Emperor), the second film will be the Atreides revenge on both with a massive twist hinted at in the first film. Not really spoiling anything with that knowledge as that is just the back story for the real important story of Dune.
the book came out in the 60s so dune is the PILLAR of scifi. anything and everything scifi afterwards was massively influenced by it. lord of the flies, star wars, dragonflies blade runner etc. its the lord of the rings of scifi.
Been seeing (and saying) this all over! It makes me kind of sad that most people's exposure to Dune is the Lynch movie. It's not a bad movie IMO, and taken on it's own, it's certainly enjoyable, but it's NOT Dune. Lynch changed so much that he might as well not have bothered.
This is the first half of the book and it needs to do well to get the other half. I've been dreaming of this for a long time, its my favorite book I've ever read. So we all need to show up and give this film the support it needs because it will be a masterpiece.
Legit, I'm getting Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings vibes from this one. It's got a stacked cast, it looks like the cinematography will be amazing, and the director and composer are both on the record stating that Dune is a passion project for them both (apparently Hans Zimmer turned down composing for Tenet because he wanted to do Dune so badly). If it's as good as the trailer suggests, I'll probably be going back to see it six or eight times in the cinema to chuck a few extra box-office bucks its way. Hopefully other fans will do the same
This was intended to be a two part movie, but with COVID, who knows if the budget will exist to complete it. There's also a spinoff HBO series from this movie called Dune: The Sisterhood, Denis was supposed to direct the first episode but I don't know if that's still the case (maybe it's already been filmed I don't know).
On the up side, apparently the budget was comparatively reasonable, about $165 million. By comparison, Black Widow was $200 million, and also faced with the simultaneous-release-on-streaming issue, but it's already pulled $343 million in less than a month. With any luck, and the support of the fanbase, we can make it happen :)
Thanks Guys, been watching reactions to remind me how I felt. I saw it dead center in Press Seats at the IMAX in Denver, it is so far beyond what you see in the trailer. This movie makes most scifi movies seem trite. In the theater we got the full first 10 minutes of the movie and the entire harvester seen, 16 minutes of the movie and 39 minutes of footage.

Respect for remembering the book and all, can’t wait for this movie, they cover about half of the book so I hope they make second one. Also at least one character gets gender swapped but excluding my OCD with adaptations to be true to source, I actually hope that the acting is good and I can live with it. Tl;dr, the story of the universe is huge. - House Harkonen = Sinister evil fuckers (you don't know the half of it), rule with fear - House Atreides = Good guys, far more noble, lead by example - The Fremen - Natives to Arrakis, being systematically oppressed by colonising forces. (a big theme) Theres so much more I could mention but youll find out with the story. - Hans Zimmer invented new instruments for this soundtrack - Roger Deakins, one of the best cinematographers out there who basically worked on every film Villeneuve has made (aside of from Arrival) is here for this. CORRECTION: Greig Fraser, not Deakins! :) - The director also made Bladerunner 2049 :) I can't wait I really can't haha :P

I read the book in my teens, and it made me think about a lot of things, such as the distinction between a human and a human-animal! Basically saying we are not all the same, despite our desire to see all as equal. At least in terms of rights we should be... but when you get down to it, it's like there are people with vision and aspirations, and then there are those who are quite happy to vegitate. Don't you just love diversity! I do! But still recognise we are not all the same. Shit, this book hit me from so many angles!
Watched in France, this movie is really epic !! Blockbuster, mystic , ecologic and a parallel about Fremen in Arakis and Arab colonized in Middle Orient:) A real historical fresco and soap opera too

A hundred percent. I mean, if anyone just wants to watch it at home, that's their prerogative, but this is Lord of the Rings-style epic and it deserves to be watched on as big a screen as we can find. My local cinema's got a 100-foot IMAX screen and damn right I'll be watching Dune on that screen
The movie is only part 1 with a runtime of 2.5hours. It covers the first half of the first book of the original series, although at which point the break will happen has not been revealed. Hans Zimmer created a new musical instrument for the movie as he felt the need to do so to capture the alieneness of the setting.
My favourite shot: that step onto the sand. The first step onto Arrakis... Also does anyone else think Mamoa looks 100 percent more badass shaven?? Also the spider movie is Enemy which is excellent and filmed not far from where I live in Mississauga Ontario

At least in terms of rights we should be... but when you get down to it, it's like there are people with vision and aspirations, and then there are those who are quite happy to vegitate. Don't you just love diversity! I do! But still recognise we are not all the same. Shit, this book hit me from so many angles!
Watched in France, this movie is really epic !! Blockbuster, mystic , ecologic and a parallel about Fremen in Arakis and Arab colonized in Middle Orient:) A real historical fresco and soap opera too
The greatest sci-fi story ever told, by the greatest working director in the world. I can't fucking wait. It's supposed to be a two part film, but they won't get approval for the second part until the studio sees how it performs in the theater. I'm literally begging people to go see this movie.

A hundred percent. I mean, if anyone just wants to watch it at home, that's their prerogative, but this is Lord of the Rings-style epic and it deserves to be watched on as big a screen as we can find. My local cinema's got a 100-foot IMAX screen and damn right I'll be watching Dune on that screen

The movie is only part 1 with a runtime of 2.5hours. It covers the first half of the first book of the original series, although at which point the break will happen has not been revealed. Hans Zimmer created a new musical instrument for the movie as he felt the need to do so to capture the alieneness of the setting.
