I cracked up seeing them smoking in the underwater habitats. 😂

I've watched those Cousteau videos & not only were they smoking in the underwater habitats, but their meals included wine & cheese every night.... you can take a Frenchman out of France & send him to the bottom of the ocean, but you can't take the French cuisine away from Cousteau's frogmen! 😂🥂

Came here after watching Garret Reisman on JRE. I was shocked that this concept even existed, let alone the fact people were doing this in the 60s. Great video, love the Red Sea joke lol.

Great video 👍 I grew up watching Cousteau shows every week & it's impossible to overstate the impact he had on generations of environmental scientists, underwater archaeologists, inventors, divers, & the general public.
One bit of feedback... the photos of the underwater habitats & other pics flashed up on screen too quickly for us to see. If you leave each photo/diagram up for a few seconds it gives the viewer's brain time to catch up, look it over & process it before moving to the next one... think about how you turn pages in a photo album & pause to look at each photo. Always worth showing your video to one or more 'sanity checkers' during editing to make sure your timing & transitions aren't rushed, because we all have a natural tendency to speed up when we're presenting something. ☺

I’m glad you had a sunbautica reference, it’s the only thing I could think about.

I think in a Sci Fi setting it can work for Human civilization living underwater. Overall the concept is really cool to think about!

It was pretty wild seeing Casto crew sitting around in there under water habitat. Playing cards and board games, checkers and chess like my grandparents use to spend there Saturday nights with cigarettes and bottles at the table. Who knew !! Great vid. Also love how Casto used the oil, chemical companies money saying sure we will check for great spots to set up drill rigs and then spin and say save and protect the ocean 🌊!!! Great move!!!

Yeah that’s one of my favorite clips, seeing them all sit and smoke. Thanks for watching :)

As a nipper, I wanted to be "Jack Custard". I would put rubber gloves on my feet as mock fins and 'scuba dive' across the furniture.

More voice sound in the beginning and less music. I could barely hear it. Great video other than that bud.

Nah man I'm too much of a p*ssy to do this in deep water, screw that I have submechanophobia and aquamechanphobia, and maybe a little thalassophobia as well, and those don't mix well with stuff like this. Just seeing the place would make me panic because it makes me think of my fears.
