Picked up the 38 on sale as my first Nike shoe. I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised with that shoe. A little on the firmer side but have been using it for up tempo and steady runs. Good « pop » with the air zoom unit and they don’t feel too heavy under foot. The outsole has barely any scratches after 200km so I think the durability will be good.
Can you tell how the midsole cushioning is holding up? It might be difficult to feel though. If you get time go to a store and try on new ones to compare to yours
@@kiteracer2497 that’s a good question! I’ve never ran in react midsole before but I would say it has benefited from a break in period in the peg 38 and has soften up a bit after 200k. I would guess the durability will be good compared to a Hoka midsole or at least no issue to take the peg to 500mi/800km. That’s about the max mileage I go with any shoe regardless. Injury prevention and that gives a reason for buying a new pair 😂!!
QD: It’s been my go to daily trainer for the past seven years. Usually go through about three pairs a year. Use them for most of my runs outside of speed work. I don’t enjoy having more then three different shoes at a time. I like keeping my shoe rotation simple and this shoe helps doing that. Also I just picked up another pair of Peg 38’s from the Nike Outlets for $48.
Peg 35 was my first peg. Now I’m back with the 39. Stack height of the 38 and 39 are the same. The 39 is significantly more breathable. I think you got those reversed I got the Peg 39 for $75 from east bay a few weeks ago. It was insane
I have both. 39 definitely fees a bit lighter but both decent daily trainers. Ok for light trails as well, they have a decent grip unlike a lot of other daily types 👍🏻
I feel that the 38's have more cushion under foot, but are slightly heavier. I like the 39's, I even had mine custom made, but the 38's are a more enjoyable ride (IMO). What I like about my 39's is the easy zip tie, lock lacing system, although it doesn't come with all the 39's, as I can see with this video. Hopefully the Pegasus 40 will come with Zoom X foam.
Zoom X foam means $50 more. Why not just get the Invincible if you want ZoomX? Nike won't be putting their premium foam on a $130 shoe without putting a premium price to it. Let's not get out hopes up.
IMO peg 36 is the best in recent years, I also like the 34. I really didn’t like the 37 and now I have the 38. 38’s are pretty good. I’m over 200lbs so I feel like the react is helpful. Overall it’s a solid trainer
I used to have the 36,37 & 38. But I have to say that the pegasus still need some update because the react foam after 10k would become stiff. They are good shoes but just need some new stuff. I think that if Nike could stop using react, the pegasus lineup would have a gigantic improvement.
I always end up using the Peg as a daily walking shoe. React feels so great just walking or standing around, but I find it isn’t my favorite for any running over like 4 miles and I definitely have noticed it firming up after a while. I find in most Nike products that I do not love zoom air under the heel. It takes away precious foam and it creates an uneven transition in stride. Either forefoot only or full length zoom would work best and as such I prefer the 38.
@@steven9343 sadly I believe Nike has too much thrown into React foam development to let it go at this point in time. With how poorly received the recycled ZoomX/SR02 combo has been in the zoom fly 5, unless Nike can develop a more durable ZoomX they’re kind of stuck with just trying to tinker with the React compound as they do not yet have a foam in between the two in terms of durability and performance. I’d like to see a dual density design like the Mach 5 where there’s a top layer of the ZoomX and a react base as a good compromise but until then there are just better daily trainers out there
@@kalvin. Yes,I totally agree with you because the problem of zoomx is not durable enough. But I still think that Nike has the ability to develop a brand new foam for daily trainer like using nitrogen in the foam.
QD: I have just learned to wait, I used to jump to make a decision always backed fired. Now I wait and let my mind make up itself, instead of trying to rush to an answer.
I just happened to be looking at the October 1985 Runners World with the huge article on running shoe survey. According to the review, the Nike Pegasus was the only shoe to survive Nikes
@saddleback yes remember when we use to wait for those issues! It was the only way back then to try to compare shoes. Now there are so many reviewers of running shoes!
QD: I usually allow sufficient time for me to absorb the situation. Time is a powerful tool allowing me to go through the thinking process again and again, making a big decision that is least likely to be regret
QD: I have a list of goals and values that are important to me that I update from time to time. Whenever I have to make a decision I pick what best moves me in the direction of my goals and values
Well, I have been wearing Peg 38 for 6 months, only walking, no running and using at clean office work environment. There is a hole opened up on the upper sole by toe area and it looks terrible. Shoe still looks new but because of that embarrassing hole on the upper, I have to buy Peg 39. Because it's more durable.
I have both ,38 and 39. 38 is much better show for training and long run. 38 has double air zoom unit in the front compared to 39. The 39 is harder-firmer. Not for recovery days and can cause pain in the achille ang in gulf. The 38 have much more cushion and the they are much splashier
I just got the 38 a few hours ago for 80 dollars. I'll test them tomorrow morning. My last Pegasus was the 35 but had the Infinity React and Novablast as my daily trainer.
Out of all the shoes I ever had, the 38 was the shoe I got the most bang for my buck. Got 856KM from it. With the 39, I’m barely 550 and it’s already dying. It’ll be a stretch if it reaches 650. The rubber just ain’t as durable.
Seth I have two pairs of Pegasus 38’s. As I was getting ready for my long run this morning, I thought to switch the insoles from the newer one that only has 15+ miles on it and I found that the insole has gotten thinner so I decided to keep it as it is. It’s the same shoe but there’s a difference there so 🤷🏾♂️
Seth, I will go for the 38 all day especially at the sales price of £58. It's a bargain for the bounce the stack high in the 39 is smaller and i need to look after my feet so it's s no brainer and pinching pennies
QD: i’m the type who listen to professionals. I doubted myself before i register my first marathon ever last month, but my PT considered i’m ready for such distance and it boosted up me to submit the registration.

To me it's the exact opposite. The 38 more cushioning, 39 on the other hand is a bit more peppy, probably because of the Air Zoom Unit in the back. I would even pick the 38 for slow recovery runs, while I do wear the 39 even on some speedier sessions. Loving both though. 🤷
Hey Seth, little off topic but I would love to suggest a topic for a future video all about threshold training. I know you've done some previously. I think with all the attention around the Norwegians it's a great topic. I've seen a variety of information from work to rest to be 5:1 (Jack Daniels) to 2:1 (Jason Koop) and a wide range of how long someone should be able to hold the pace 40-90 minutes (Koop). I would love to hear in detail what you could pass on to us about this sort of training. Thanks, Seth! 😊

The Peg 40 will be like the Peg 39, just an upper update and an anniversary colorway.
Hi James, what would you say is the best daily trainer shoe on the market?

The Adidas SL20.2 is a similar shoe and costs $50. I'd much prefer to reach for a NB Rebel or any Skechers shoes. Much better foam
Zoom X for the 40s!
I was able to pick up a pair of 38’s for $40 today at a Nike outlet
